November NPD: Double Megaton
In October, the Wii was the top-selling console in the US, with 800,000 systems sold. Then in November, Nintendo sold 2.04 million Wii systems. No, wait, that's not right -- it needs italics, bolding, and underlining.2.04 million Wiis. In one month. This is what happens when Black Friday and adequate stock meet. It's a record for November, obviously. Is this the turning point for the Wii? Is this when it starts to eclipse the mighty DS Lite for good? Who knows? We're too dazzled by big numbers to analyze.
Unsurprisingly, the surge in Wii sales meant great numbers for Wii Play, because people tend to like having multiple controllers. Much more unexpected is the appearance of Wii Music in the software top 10. It's not a Wii Fit or Wii Play-caliber hit by any means, but some people bought it. Also on the subject of Wii music, the Wii version of Guitar Hero World Tour was the only version to make it into the top 10. No Animal Crossing, though. Check after the break for the top 10 list.

2 million is pretty friggin' amazing...
I'm rather curious how CoD: WaW did on the Wii, though, as it apparently did well on the other two systems...
Methylparoben @ Dec 12th 2008 9:58AM
COD: WaW is the first wii game for hardcore gamers. I say this as a wii owner who hasn't touched the thing for nearly a year. The tight controls, mature graphics and levelling system make this the best multiplayer game on the wii right now. Everyone should pick this up (assuming you're old/mature enough to play it).

Very poorly, i think it struggled to break 100k
Though they started advertising it recently

I agree with the COD W@W being for the hardcore. The leveling up is great. This is the truely first great online game for the Wii. In exceeds Medal of Honor Heros in every way.
ChromeAlchemist @ Dec 12th 2008 5:46PM
wait what? The first hardcore game for the Wii? you must be joking, smash bros has always been a hardcore game masked in simple controls. And let's not forget Medal Of Honour Heroes 2, guilty gear, Red Steel and Wank and Sticky (Zack And Wiki :-3) hell even need for speed.
Surely if the game is not hardcore then My mum could pick it up and enjoy it, and she would enjoy none of those games I have listed, and even my housemates would not play them (besides MoH, they are ALL XboXers). All of those games are hardcore.

That's almost 0.8 Wiis sold per second... for the entire month.
That's like, devastating.
Papytendo @ Dec 12th 2008 1:10PM
And PS3 still thinks it has a chance..........
TracerBullet @ Dec 12th 2008 3:51PM
Is there a way to see further on that list?
Oh, and just for fun, I got the top 5 games on 2 big virtual stores here in Brazil. First, Fnac:
1 - Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 - PS3- Konami
2 - Wii Fit - Wii - Nintendo
3 - Gears of War II - Xbox360 - Microsoft
4 - Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 - PS2 - Konami
5 - Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 - Xbox360 - Konami
(obviously, the Wii needs a great football - soccer, for ya, unbelievers - game)
Top five games of Americanas:
1 - Pro Evolution Soccer 2009 - PS3 - Konami
2 - FIFA Soccer - PS3 - EA
3 - Gran Turismo 5 - PS3 - Polyphony/Sony
4 - Rock Band wDrums. guitars, mic - MTV - PS3
5 - same, same, same - Xbox 360
unfortunatelly, Submarino, our biggest internet store, has no overall best seller list. But it's Wii top 5:
1 - Super Mario Galaxy
2- SSBB
3 - Pro Evolution Soccer 2008
4 - Guitar Hero AeroSmith
5 - Need For Speed Carbon
Unfortunatelly, Submarino puts Wii Fit as an "accessory", not a game.

Two-point-oh-four-million O_O
It's also nice to see Wii Music on there. I've been watching the "advanced techniques" videos on the Nintendo Channel lately, and I really hope someone gets me that game for Christmas, otherwise I'll buy it myself afterwards. It's definitely piqued my interest.
leonus11 @ Dec 12th 2008 4:44PM
