WiiWare manga releases next month, has English text
Remember Sunsoft's plans to start releasing manga over WiiWare? After several months of hearing diddly-squat, we've finally got confirmation that Princess Ai will be the first title delivered through the service. On January 6, Japanese Wii owners will have access to the first three chapters for 500 Wii points. Subsequent chapters will be released in pairs for 200 points a time. At fifteen chapters long, that means Princess Ai will set you back 1700 points, a pretty competitive price when compared to the paper-based version.
Better still, one of the comic panels released by Sunsoft reveals subtitles in English -- Siliconera speculates that this could mean Sunsoft plans to localize its WiiWare manga viewer in the west. If that goes well, who knows what else could come our way?

I think it is a great idea, but that price for one volume (or two thirds of a volume?) is far too high for manga to be a regular purchase on there.
Only two things would make me want to buy from them. Cheaper prices, or exclusives. They definitely should produce doujin manga (fan manga) exclusively for digital download, or up and comng manga series.
But that price is no exuse considering there is no cost to produce a digital manga. Needs to drop.

You do know what a server is right? There are costs associated with digital distribution.
ChromeAlchemist @ Dec 4th 2008 9:15PM
of course i do, and i meant basically no cost in comparison to print media, surely this is true.
CJLopez @ Dec 4th 2008 7:13PM
Well, we can see on the pictures the tokyopop brand, so i think its more than confirmed that this wiiware is comming state side
Still, i'd rather buy the printed version, I can read em whenever and werever I want.

"I can read em whenever and werever I want."
Yeah, that makes me wonder why this is a better fit for the Wii than the DS.
Metayoshi @ Dec 4th 2008 10:59PM
@ ramuji:
This definitely is a much better fit for the new DSi's DSWare instead. I wonder why they chose Wii.

@ramuji
Its cheaper the printed version and you don't have to worry if yer batteries runs out while you are reading

I hope that they release light novels also, even more if it's tokyopop because they have the "welcome to the NHK" novel, wich I want to read so badly.
Rocketboy @ Dec 5th 2008 8:26AM
Then just buy it.
ProTip: It's not that good. Stick with the manga.
Matias @ Dec 5th 2008 10:28AM
I don't live in the states, so tokyopop is inaccesible for me, and I don't have a credit card so I can't buy stuff online >_>
And the anime is better yet, as the manga (wich I finished reading too) drifted away from the original storyline of the novel, and the anime followed it (while addding some other stuff).
I just want to read it because NHK It's one of the best things I watched/read

Call me when Tokyopop puts up better titles.
Hanzaki @ Dec 5th 2008 6:34AM
I don't know.... Because of the low screen resolution of the Wii, the pictures won't look too good compared to the originals.
I'll stick with the paper version...

doujinshi? LOL
overall, sorry for mentioning that here, I'd say it will be bother: if I'm in mood to read manga, I grab it from BitTorrent in batches. I do not read it in 1-2 chapters...
Going to Wii for every new chapter is bother.
