Konami casts new Suikoden screens
Say a warm "O HAI" to another eighteen screens of Suikoden Tierkreis. The 3D work in Konami's title might struggle to match the likes of, say, Phantasy Star Zero, but it still looks lovely. Commence gawking here!A quick recap of this, in case it slipped your mind: you play as one of 108 heroes. All 108 are attempting to slay the main antagonist, "The One King," and each works independently of the others. Every hero will be fully interactive, and can be recruited to your party, which is limited to four characters at a time.
There's also a promising online mode planned for the March release, and ... some not-so-promising voice-acting (make the jump to see what we mean).

Why are they all talking so fast?
Matias @ Dec 4th 2008 4:35PM
This the guy and the girl that speaked first have the same voice, or I'm deaf? Or are they both girls, I can't really say with the small screen >_>.
The dragon sounds cool though, it sounds like a zerg.
I hope konami adds dual audio like they did for the last castlevanias.
Aside from that, it looks promising, as almost every rpg coming to the ds, the ds is the system with most rpgs since the snes era, and thankfully most of them are really good.

Are we sure those are supposed to be the final voice clips? Half of them sounded like the same guy, and the others sounded like the same actor changing his voice slightly. I'd almost believe this was just temporary dialog recorded by a manager or something for testing purposes.
...Well, let's hope...

voice acting aside, this looks like a very promising game ^^

Hey guys; from the looks of this, am I going to be lost playing this if I've never played a Suikoden game before? (not necessarily from a gameplay standpoint, but more a storyline/game secrets only long-time fans will know/etc. standpoint)
Arvec @ Dec 4th 2008 5:33PM
None of the Suikoden games have a progressing story; each one can stand alone from each other. There are occasionally references to what happened in the past games (generally mentioning wars that occured in other countries, a few re-occuring characters, and the like) but they're basically nods to people who have played previous games in the series. You wouldn't be missing anything by not having played the previous games.

Thanks. It's just that this is looking really, really nice and I didn't want to miss out if I had a chance at understanding it.

Actually, this Suikoden title takes place in a different dimension than the previous ones did. You won't even have to worry about the occasional reference to previous Suikoden games, because they won't be there. Konami made this decision-- along with the decision not to call it Suikoden VI-- because they didn't want to scare off people unfamiliar with the franchise.

looks cool. i loved the one on ps, suikoden II
Sora @ Dec 4th 2008 8:36PM
I have played all the suikoden games, the graphics are usually great especially for the last one on ps2, but the battle system, is a kind of lame, not much fun during combat, but it might be able to match phantasy star zero in graphics, but I have no doubt that phantasy battle way more fun than suikoden, except if suikoden battle system was likee disgaea

Not true at all. If you hadn't played Suikoden I or II you'd have no idea who the villiain in Suikoden III was.
This game is going to sucks balls.
Arvec @ Dec 7th 2008 10:48AM
That's true, I had forgotten about that. That's a bit more than just a cameo, like most characters. They do at least give you that information, but I agree it wouldn't have been as good without having seen him in the past two games.
Either way, I can't think of any other time where you'd really benefit from playing the others, besides those 'oh, I remember that!' moments. Cool, but never necessary.

Wait, don't 104 of the stars of destiny die in the intro? And didn't Konami abandon the resurrection system? I've apparently missed out on some updates, can someone fill me in?

Still the same crappy voice acting and crappy font. Konami has had plenty of time to correct this, but obviously doesn't give a crap what the fans think about their games (or is completely oblivious). Too bad such a nice looking game will be marred by some very obvious flaws.
At least having a flashcart, I know that when the game comes out I can play it with the original Japanese voiceovers and maybe do something about the font myself. But it sucks to buy a copy of the game and have it just sit on the shelf...
