There's been a lot of Virtual Console releases this year (been keeping up?), and we were wondering which were among your favorites? We've received Secret of Mana, Super Mario RPG, and River City Ransom, to name a few. So, which sit at the top of your list for this year? Sure, we were hoping we'd have another to consider, but let's not dwell on that.
There have been some great releases for sure. However, I will not be satisfied until I see Earthbound released. Mother 1-3 would be nice, but I'll settle for just seeing Earthbound.
I was truly excited when Super Mario RPG came out, considering the fact that when I first purchased the Wii, I was holding out on all Virtual Console games that were available until that game came out, that was of course before I realized that only one or 2 games came out at a time and that that there was a chance that some of my favourite games growing up would not be available because of publishing issues etc. So when it came out this year, I felt it was a breakthrough!
I also have to say that the 3 Mega Man games that were made available made me very happy as well, I never appreciated them when I was a kid, and I was a pleasure to finally get to play them!
I would love it if the C64 games came here. Boulder Dash!
The only VC games I've bought: Zelda (original) - Just to see what all the fuss is about. Meh. Tedious and a bit boring. Donkey Kong Jr. - I'm normally fairly terrible at old school video games, but DKJ is surprisingly easy. I can whip through all the levels without breaking a sweat. Pokemon Snap - clever, unique concept. A little tedious at times, trying to find that last Pokemon, but overall pretty fun. Ocarina of Time - interesting to see where Twilight Princess came from, but since TP is the same thing with better graphics I don't think I'll be spending much more time with this. Super Mario Brothers - I beat the first world. I don't have a lot of patience for 2D platformers, or any game where you have to start over at the beginning once you die. Still, fun. Super Mario Brothers 3 - ditto. Except I wasn't *quite* able to beat the first world. I got almost to the end a couple of times but always died and finally said the heck with it.
So I guess the winner is Pokemon Snap. I don't think I'll bother buying any more VC games though. There's too many good WiiWare (and disc) games coming out to bother with bad graphics and frustrating game design just for the sake of a little nostalgia.
Are you sure you're not confusing bad graphics for old graphics? that's like saying an old movie is bad because it has outdated special effects and is in black & white, I think you're missing the whole point of the Virtual Console
My dream list for next year: Starfox (SNES) Super Star Wars (SNES) Super Empire Strikes Back (SNES) Ducktales (NES) Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers (NES) Indiana Jones Greatest Adventures (SNES) Super Punch Out (SNES) Batman (NES) Batman Returns (SNES) Blaster Master (NES) Splatterhouse 3 (Genesis)
Sega Saturn and original Game Boy games would be sweet too.
The only one that i need to be released in the VC is the N64 Goemon series (Mystical Ninja), if they released the snes one why not the ones on the N64? wich were better.
so, Please Nintendo Gimme some ninjas in giant robots!!
Lost Winds was fun. I also bought Pop and Defend Your Castle, played them for maybe 5 minutes, and then felt like a freaking idiot for actually buying them.
WiiWare is a cool idea, but for now I'm going to have to say WiiWare < Virtual Console. And can we PLEASE get more than 10 N64 games. Gez, that's just embarrassing.
The original Paper Mario game for the N64, I guess...
Titles I want to see yet:
- Super Mario All Stars (SNES) - TMNT 2: The Arcade Game (NES) - Rad Racer 1 and 2 (NES) - Pro-Wrestling (NES) - Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2 (N64) - Neon Genesis Evangelion (N64 / Japan)
and my favorite game for VC this year is MegaMan2 it's the first time i've been able to play megaman and not die every 4 seconds. Also, I got Castlevania one to finally give that franchise a chance and i love it. The music especially, actually I bought the game cause i was listening to the minibosses too much lol
it's all about WiiWare for me this year. I get the good games the day they come out and VC has been short this year imo. I do enjoy Mario RPG though and VECTORMAN!
