Rumor: Dragon Quest IX spreading to Wii
Square Enix's announcement that Dragon Quest IX would be exclusive to the DS effectively signaled the end of this generation's console wars in Japan. Now, according to an EGM rumor, the DS will have to share the title with the Wii."Quartermann," EGM's pseudonym for various rumermongering staffers, says that Protectors of the Starry Sky will be ported to the Wii, probably in the same manner as the dual DS/Wii Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time. If true, this is actually a pretty decent arrangement: people desiring the more traditional Dragon Quest experience would be able to play at home on the TV, DS players can enjoy it on the go, and both can engage in the new multiplayer mode. If it isn't true ... we can just play it on the DS. It's the best kind of rumor: the kind that isn't really that disappointing if it turns out to be bunk.

Better than nothing. I would have never bought this for DS. I hate to play RPGs on handheld. I know this will not be as good a DQ8 because it was developed for handheld, but hopefully it is worthwhile.

Sure, I was disappointed IX was headed to the DS but I wasn't going to let it stop me from getting it. DQVIII was the best Final Fantasy game I'd played in a long time, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, hope this rumor's true. I was hoping for a Wii version from day one.

DQ is not Final Fantasy o.O. DQ VIII was one of the best RPG's on PS2.
acefondu @ Dec 4th 2008 9:28AM
Yeah...I'm one to usually understand comparisons but DQVIII really had very little in common with current Final Fantasy games. The story was light and humorous as opposed to rather dark Final Fantasy stories. The battle system was basic in DQ as opposed to the often complex systems of Final Fantasy. Males look like males in DQ as opposed to Final Fantasy she-males.
I could go on, but they don't get much more amusing than that last one.

@ david: "DQ VIII was one of the best RPG's on PS2"
I agree; in fact, I would argue it's THE best RPG on the PS2, as far as I'm concerned.

Which is why I enjoyed it so much! What you said is a much better way to say what I meant. I learned how to play RPGs with FF6 and FF7 and DQ8 is the perfect example of what FF did NOT evolve into but could have. FF8 and FF9 were enjoyable but ultimately OK, and FFX eventually grew on me (kinda like a fungus...). But when I played DQ8 I had that sense of awe and wonder back from my early RPG days. Nothing felt forced and even the side-quests were all enjoyable, never dull and tedious.
I suppose I should have simply said "DQVIII was the best Square game I'd played in a long time" (though technically on the Enix side..) but then I would have missed out on another chance to praise DQVIII. And that wouldn't have been any fun =]

This, Capcom vs, and Monster Hunter 3?
Might as well give Nintendo their own seat in the Diet

Hey look!!! Is that Krillin on the picture???
I know the designer of Dragon Quest was originally Akira Toriyama, but this is going too far!!!!
