Wii Warm Up: Disaster planning

But should it? Do you think the game has a better chance here than in other regions? Would you have any expectation of sales, especially given Reggie's low confidence (and thus low likelihood of promotion)? Personally, we want to play it and we don't much care if Nintendo of America profits on it or not. They've got enough money, but we don't have enough copies of Disaster. Feel free to speak from the position of "armchair business analyst" or "person who wants to play a game"!

I am from the uk and have been playing disaster since it was released (got my copy on the day). And i have to say im loving it, the reviews are right though its not going to break any woulds but its a good solid change of pace and its fun to play too. I have to say though i think it didnt do well in europe due to advertising i only know about the game as id been following its progress for over a year, but in the uk i saw no adverts and no real press coverage for the game no wonder it didnt do to well in sales.
but when it hits your shores buy it, the best fact is its so cheesy (its the game equivalent of a dodgy 90's action film)

If we knew how much it costs to release the game here in the US then we can make a better assessment if the company would be making any money back... anyways being that there are more people with wiis in america there should be more units of Disaster sold. The ratio would likely be the same to units sold in europe though. I do feel however if companies did put effort into advertising ( something we definitely don't see enough of ) more units would be sold.
I'd look to buy it used if it came out from craigslist which wouldn't do the company any good, but at least i'd be buying it which may interest me more in a sequel.

I'd look to pick it up. It sounds like fun, cheesiness and all. Perhaps not full price, but on sale or once it drops.

I don't think this would do well. It's a game with very little appeal outside of the smallest group of core gamers. Advertisements *might* help, but probably not enough to warrant the money pumped into said ads.

I will likely not buy it. Just throwing that out there.

Being a PC gamer ,until I bought my Wii, I have to say that this thing about regional releases is astounding to me and I don't quite understand it. Obviously they have an English translation and all they need is a regional coded disk. That can't be that difficult.
Ok so they don't want to spend on promotion then if I want a game and I'm willing to import it from Europe then why should Nintendo care?
I hate that DVDs have region codes and I hate that my Wii console has a region code. I hate that some person (This Reggie fellow) is deciding what I can and cannot do/buy.

How much does it cost to get an ESRB rating and make a limited press of the game? I'm sure it would make its way into at least a few homes. Can't imagine they couldn't at least break even by a limited US release.
hellhammer @ Dec 1st 2008 3:06PM
Do I think a game about Americans, based on natural disasters taking place in America, and influenced by cheesy American action films will sell better in America?
Yes.
I imported Disaster and it's fantastic.
leonus11 @ Dec 1st 2008 4:43PM
dammit Reggie! quit lining your pockets with cash and give us Fatal Frame IV and Disaster Day Of Crisis!
Anonymousaurus @ Dec 2nd 2008 11:09PM
i am commenting on every D:DoC, TvsC, and Fatal Frame IV (FFIV would make it seem like a final fantasy title) thread until they are in my North American hands.
oh, and commercially i think D:DoC would do at least as good as Japan so it cant hurt.
underrated cult status > shovelware popularity
