Ken Moore goes where no man has gone before, turns Wiimote into theremin

Ken Moore likes to fiddle around with things. His latest project turns the Wiimote into a theremin, which is one of the earliest electronic instruments and the first that is actually played without touching. Above, you'll see a video of Ken providing a tech demo and brief history lesson on the instrument. Past the break, you'll see Ken attempt to do the theme for the original Star Trek show.

The homebrew community is doing nifty things with the Wii. Have you learned how to play DVDs on your console yet? Or read about the app that lets you play games from other regions? What about getting Goldeneye to run on Wii? Alternatively, you could just use homebrew to get your cheat on.

This is just the sort of thing a music buff like me would absolutely LOVE to have. It's so sweet and so unique, I could probably play and experiment for hours on end.

This is completely awesome. I now need a theremin. And this man is a cool man, and the embarassment on the internet he might experience from the "star trek theme" is minimal compare to the novelty and awesomenicity.

Rawrzilla I totally agree. Im all about experimental music and this seems to be the ultimate form of experiment and expression. Id love to have one... and a roland synth!

Theramin sounds like a prescription drug. Still, this is very cool... I didn't realize the Wiimote could read hand movements!

Why isn't that instrument on wii music, I've been interested in theremins since I saw one on TV. Nintendo should hire him and make him develop their music games.
Also is funny how the wii haters always bash the control, and say that the other ones are better, and this one is gimmick etc, but in the end the wiimote is much better piece of technology and innovative than the xbox or ps3 ones (wich haven't changed too much from previous versions).
