Wii Warm Up: Day of buyer's remorse
Yesterday was the most hyped shopping day of the year. Some of you braved the morning insanity out in the retail world, and some of you (and us) took advantage of delightful online deals. One thing every shopping experience had in common: unexpectedly awesome deals other than the ones you'd planned to buy.Did you make any impulse buys that you now regret? Did your money-saving efforts end up costing you a ton? Or are there deals that you regret not jumping on?

I'm actually satisfied with what I bought. I got resident evil 4, and the duel charger for the wii remotes. Outside of video games, I got earpieces for my samsung a737, and an 8gb sandisk mp3 player (that had fm radio, sd card support, and also a video player). I wanted Boom Blox for $20, but it was too late to go to target. I think I bought enough for now, but I'll probably get some more during the holidays.
Stevets01 @ Nov 29th 2008 4:53PM
Did you get the Sansa Fuze? or the Sansa View? Either way, great players.
Nebinator @ Nov 29th 2008 5:00PM
Nope. I may get them later. Which one do you prefer?

You guys really need ask yourselves whether a day like this should be ramped up to levels of such illogical hysteria.
richrdlumpkin3 @ Nov 29th 2008 11:02AM
How un-American of you to refrain from spending your money on one of the biggest shopping days of the holiday season!! Have you forgotten about the economy or the true meaning of the holiday season? It is your duty as an American citizen to CONSUME!!
I'm un-American so I saved money by not spending any. ;)
Josh @ Nov 29th 2008 12:24PM
Same here. I think about how the international perception of the United States got a boost after Obama was elected, but then this happens and completely negates that.
aj @ Nov 30th 2008 7:02AM
If you think about it, one Wal-Mart employee out of....how many are there in the US? That's like .01% of employees killed on Black Friday. That's not so bad. More people die in Taco Bell.
.....but I'm just playing Devil's Advocate here. In reality, Christmas is about the Christian messiah's birth. So this guy was killed in a mad rush to celebrate the birth of the Lord. That alone is enough crazy to make me shake my head sadly.
Rocketboy @ Nov 30th 2008 10:58AM
If you knew anything about crowd dynamics, if there's a rush of people, and someone falls over, they will die. There's almost nothing that can be done about it. Anyone who realizes what's going on cannot stop because of the people behind them, but almost nobody does realize what's going on.
Yes, it sucks.
Yes, it does (seem) inexcusable.
But to decry it as an indication that some people put savings above human life is just ignorant.
HiddenEmerald @ Nov 29th 2008 11:02AM
Just cause there are some loonies tramplin over people (sucks to be that guy.... what a ***** way to die...) in New York, doesn't mean the deals aren't great. I almost got WoW and the first expansion for 20$, but then, I decided I was too tired to get out of bed. Damn you comfy(and warm!) beds!!
Bowser Rogozhin @ Nov 29th 2008 11:11AM
"Just cause there are some loonies tramplin over people (sucks to be that guy.... what a ***** way to die...) in New York, doesn't mean the deals aren't great."
Numbers > Human life < Savings

I think I'll like what I got on black friday. What I do regret buying earlier when it was on sale was Star Fox Assault. It's a very different game than the earlier ones in the franchise. Hopefully, a new Star Fox will come out for the Wii that's true to Star Fox's roots: on-rails action.
Matt @ Nov 29th 2008 11:16AM
I bought Shaun White when I didn't even really want it, but whatev...
WalkingCarpet @ Nov 29th 2008 11:47AM
I bought two DVDs for 5 bucks each at a book store... and that's it. I didn't catch any of the adds, otherwise I probably would've shopped around for some other stuff.
Mr Khan @ Nov 29th 2008 11:52AM
Only impulse buy i made was The Simpsons Movie. Can't go wrong to buy the movie for the same price of the ticket i paid to go see it when it came out
also caved and got a USB LAN-Ethernet adapter that is (according to WiiLi.org, anyway) compatible with Wii
DaisukeKiriyama @ Nov 29th 2008 12:25PM
I missed out on the $10 RE4 deal yesterday.
Made me so sad.
At least I can still get the Nyko Perfect Shot for around $8
VinnieMas @ Nov 29th 2008 12:27PM
I got the $10 Resident Evil 4 simply case it was $10, awesome
Nebinator @ Nov 29th 2008 10:12PM
Good choice. :)
BTW, it was still the #1 shooter sold when it was $20.
Gun Barrier @ Nov 29th 2008 1:02PM
I regret buying boingz on wiiware. And i kinda regret buying a PS3 at 50% off.
aussieXdude @ Nov 29th 2008 2:28PM
Where did you get a PS3 50% off?!
Gun Barrier @ Nov 29th 2008 2:31PM
it was the voting deal from amazon. 007 BD movies ($180), Farcry 2($60), and the ps3($500), all for $350.
Nebinator @ Dec 5th 2008 7:05PM
You know, I can take that ps3 off your hands if you want...
platinumblonde @ Nov 29th 2008 1:35PM
I bought Little League World Series 2008 for the Wii only because it was 30 bucks at Target. It seemed like a good deal, especially since the only negative thing I've heard about it is that it was over-priced. I am still in the market for a new TV though...
pjsingh @ Nov 29th 2008 2:02PM
Got an Xbox 360 from Target
Moose @ Nov 29th 2008 3:21PM
Wasn't expecting to purchase Okami but 14.95 was too good to pass up.
abandonedgarbage @ Nov 29th 2008 3:30PM
i got the animal crossing bundle for 40 dollars on amazon! :D i don't regret it.
buckyboy28 @ Nov 29th 2008 7:11PM
Me too! I wasn't planning on buying it until the price went down, and this seemed to be an omen!
raptorspike @ Nov 29th 2008 6:51PM
I went on Amazon at 3:45am (had to leave for work at 4:10). Got deBlob for $26 and Resident Evil 4 for $10. Sweet!
zchry @ Nov 29th 2008 7:16PM
My parents bought Wii Music (full price) once they heard that Guitar Hero was sold out, but then found Guitar Hero elsewhere (at Walmart, and they matched Target's price).
I regret that my parents ended up buying both of them. I'm glad I'll have them both, but they ended up spending over twice as much as I wanted them to, and I feel bad about it.
Ali @ Nov 29th 2008 8:50PM
I bought guitar world tour, the target deal, I wanted to go early but my sister told me it would be there still at 8 am, so when I went there I wasn't expecting it, and lo and behold they had it and like 10 more, I also got zack and wiki for $20.
ShampooPrincess @ Nov 29th 2008 10:50PM
Found No More Heroes for $7.85 at Target. Sweeeet.
Anti-Villian @ Nov 29th 2008 11:14PM
Apparently their was like a sale somewhere.
saylorsgang @ Nov 29th 2008 11:30PM
Found Excite Truck, Elebits and Chicken Shoot for 8.99 each at Circuit City, I'm happy, but I think I should have left Chicken Shoot for another sucker.
zchry @ Nov 29th 2008 11:35PM
I couldn't find it at Target. Mine apparently only got around 3 in stock (LAAAAME), but my Best Buy had around 15 (full price, though).
Also, Zack & Wiki is regularly-priced $7 at Toys R Us.
aj @ Nov 30th 2008 7:05AM
I would make fun of Americans for having Black Friday, but Canadians have Boxing Day, which is the same thing, but somehow worse.
I'll probably buy a lot of stuff I don't need or even want because of sales.
Hey, has anyone ever read "Predictably Irrational" by Dan Ariely?
Bowser Rogozhin @ Nov 30th 2008 7:20AM
Urgh, Boxing Day.
I'll read Ariely if you read 'Propaganda' by Ellul.
aj @ Dec 2nd 2008 3:17AM
The joke's on you. I love crazy Frenchmen. I'll hit the library tomorrow.
The Ariely book is good. It makes a good companion to "Freakonomics", if you've ever read or heard of that. It's just that Ariely is more into the psychological than the sociological and political than the Freakonomics guy is.
Sisyphus @ Nov 30th 2008 8:33PM
Bioshock $10, Boom Blox $20, a season of 24 $20, and some Jackie Chan DVDs. I didn't really plan on getting anything, but I was looking to see what deals were to be had. Although, I was smart and did my Black Friday shopping online at 2am.
JP @ Dec 1st 2008 1:40PM
I bought Okami, a perfect shot, and 2 wireless guitars for $35 total. Then my Wii broke.
