DS Daily: But would you want it?
The good folks at Siliconera recently spoke with Leo Tan of Capcom Europe about Street Fighter IV, and while they left out the DS when asking specifically about other systems that might be possible for the game, the answer was interesting (even though we've heard it before): "I do realize that earlier in the campaign we talked about putting it on every platform imaginable, including GBA if there was a demand. Whilst a GBA version seems unlikely, the fighting system itself (not the graphics, obviously) could easily transfer to any system with six buttons and a dpad so nothing should be ruled out. Ever. If people shout loudly enough that they want something, they often get heard."
Well, the DS has a D-pad (even if it's small!) and six buttons, so that puts it into the realm of possibility. But would you want a visually-stripped version of Street Fighter IV for the DS?

I say bring it on. I still rock street fighter II on my SNES.
HK @ Nov 21st 2008 9:15AM
Yes please.
Hamster @ Nov 21st 2008 9:16AM
Yes, yes and yes.
It's wrong that the DS doesn't have at least one Street Fighter.
Antonio @ Nov 21st 2008 9:18AM
The DS needs a good fighting game and it's the first portable Nintendo system with enough buttons for Street Fighter. I'd love it.

Even though I haven't played it, I hear nothing but rave reviews for the Bleach games on DS. They don't look half bad, either. In fact, they look pretty interesting.
Aticus @ Nov 21st 2008 10:38PM
Yes, Bleach is an excellent fighting game. Get the newer one... Dark Souls. Many more characters and better balancing.
And I would like to see Street Fighter 2 and 4 on the DS!
KingKRule @ Nov 21st 2008 9:34AM
If they make it with high quality 2D sprites instead of mediocre 3d sprites I would want it on the DS
OmerMe @ Nov 21st 2008 9:51AM
Street Fighter 4 for the DS with 2D sprites will be AWESOME
Nadril @ Nov 21st 2008 9:50AM
Yes.
Fuck, give us SF II turbo HD they're putting out on the consoles.
Luiz Lima @ Nov 21st 2008 10:17AM
Yes! Capcom's 2D graphics are PRO! Also, I liked Street Fighter Zero 3 on GBA, and Street Fighter Alpha on GBC. We'll be waiting!

Only if it had WiFi
Bodachi @ Nov 21st 2008 10:31AM
Yeah theres a good reason theirs not many fighting games on the ds, I just doesn't suit it since you don't need a second screen for fighters and d-pad and buttons don't suit it.
WalkingCarpet @ Nov 21st 2008 11:06AM
It would be pretty awesome. I'm still holding out for a Wii version, though.
Wilerson @ Nov 21st 2008 11:31AM
Sure thing. SFIV, SSFT2HD, SFA3, any Street Fighter is welcome!
Necrotix @ Nov 21st 2008 11:35AM
Um hell ya I want my SF II or SF IV ported to DS ASAP! I play the GBA version of SF II Turbo on my DS still...
JohnathanEnder @ Nov 21st 2008 12:06PM

If online play was an option and it could be done well, then I would be all over it instead of hotcakes.
Josh @ Nov 21st 2008 12:57PM
Capcom's awesome.
Tim @ Nov 21st 2008 1:13PM
No, since fighting games are always meant to be played via an arcade joystick.
Voltron1551 @ Nov 21st 2008 1:21PM
The ds lites d pad sucks donkey sh*t so no, this is a problem that i have yet to see fixed and nintendo doesn't seem to care put on psp then id buy it, i already own alpha 3 max.
Jacksons @ Nov 21st 2008 1:46PM
My DS's d-pad can't seem to give consistent diagonals, so no. I'm not sure if it's just mine or what, but it has always given me trouble.
bensons @ Nov 24th 2008 7:08PM
I got a pack of three little cheap, (but amazingly efficient) umm, joysticky things(?) for my old gba specifically for SFII and anything that required diagonals or hadouken type d-pad rolls. They were like little cyliner shaped joysticks with an indented cross underneath that stuck onto the top of the gba d-pad. They were so good and so, so effective.
Is the ds pad the same size as the gba pad? If so, I'll have to dig them out!
Ready2draw @ Nov 21st 2008 2:39PM
YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES YES!!!!
agnes @ Nov 21st 2008 5:07PM
yes, even tho the game would be visually-stripped it would be like what? the only arcade sorta style fighting game? well there might be some out there but i've never heard of it. I'm pretty sure it would sell lots too since ds doesn't seem to have many of these games. we need a variety of games =) plus this game would be awsome cause well.. we can multiplayer and play the game or wifi and play with other ppl?
JBGUY2K @ Nov 21st 2008 6:12PM
AGREE'd WITH SOME PEOPLE HERE!! SF4 with 2D sprites would kick major ass, and I would buy 3 copies, 1 for me, one for my little bro, and one to just have in case I ever feel like playing against myself!(Yes, because I'm that awesome(I feel like kicking my own ass because of that statement(I really really should stop using nested thoughts like these)))!
J.K. @ Nov 21st 2008 6:14PM
I'm specifically NOT going to beg for it. Keep in mind I'd like to have it for certain, but Capcom has been screwing Nintendo owners for a good decade now so anyone in their right mind who has just their systems shouldn't give them the attention they crave. To me it appears they like to see people grovel and suck up to them to the point they'll toss a bone or two (usually a re-release upgraded or something kind of halfassed.) From this you get squat. History has shown they make promises then pretend they don't exist and break em hard. N64 game line-up is a great one to point out followed by the rude Capcom5 contract sham where we got 2 technically 1 1/2 games. I call RE4 the 1/2 because it was exclusive, up until 2 weeks before launch when they let the world know PS2 would have it in about a year with more modes, more extras, and other fun stuff... Screw them.
I love SF2, 3 was ok, and I'd like to do 4, but they need to be kissing our ass this time around, not the other way around as they burned all their bridges.
eobb @ Nov 22nd 2008 10:08AM
I havr just one thing to say to that:
Tatsunoko Vs. Capcom
MJ @ Nov 21st 2008 8:22PM
Absolutely!
I would love to have some portable sf!!!
Download play with your friends anywhere!
Wifi would be awesome too!
aj @ Nov 22nd 2008 2:39AM
Most of my childhood was devoted to Street Fighter in some form or another.
So....yes. I would rather enjoy Street Fighter IV on the DS, provided that it did not suck.
I'd really, really, really love the arcade version of Street Fighter 2.
eobb @ Nov 22nd 2008 7:44AM
YEEEEEESSSSSS!!! This is the reason i bought a fucking DS. There were two great Street Fighter games on the gba and countless other fighters. The thought of six buttons and sexy crisp 2D graphics blew my mind. What a mistake i made. The only decent beat em up is Bleach. Dont even want to talk about GG: Dust Strikers or *shudder* Marvel Nemesis. Even if Capcom just released a port of Alpha or something i would buy 2 copies. I should have bought a PSP...
Melao @ Nov 22nd 2008 9:51AM
I would like a 2D Street Fighter II, with updated graphics of course. This is enough really.
HotLimit @ Nov 24th 2008 2:36PM
I play SVC:Chaos on my DS, and it works great.
That having been said, I'd like to see a full King of Fighters game on DS rather than a watered-down SFIII or IV.
Say some company wants to release their game on every system, so they tune it up for the PS3/360, tune it down for the PC, tune it wayyyyy down for the PSP, and then get a bunch of monkeys that aren't busy smoking at typewriters to turn out the DS version.
Remakes or originals for the DS, no ports.
