Chad Kroeger asks you to stop playing Guitar Hero
Nickelback's Chad Kroeger wants you to stop playing Guitar Hero and would much prefer you pick up a real instrument, he recently told MTV. "It's tough to find other bands out there, because either they're making a record, or they just got done touring," he said. "So kids: Start rock bands. Set down the 'Guitar Hero,' learn how to play an actual guitar and start a band, because it's hard to find more bands to put a solid rock-and-roll package together, to get out there." You hear that, kids? If you don't play Guitar Hero, you can play real music with Nickelback! Personally, we'd rather play the game.
We'll admit the allure of Guitar Hero is probably greater than actually learning how to play guitar. Because the learning curve isn't as steep with the game, and with Guitar Hero including such a wide range of music (well, not all music) that is sure to please just about anybody, we can't say we're surprised that the kids would be looking to Activision's music game for their jollies.

I support his sentiment, with the provision that the kids starting these bands make sure their music doesn't suck as badly as Nickelback's.
Hamster @ Nov 20th 2008 2:52PM
Surely Guitar Hero would encourage more people to want to play the instrument and start a band.
chad @ Nov 20th 2008 2:57PM
...in the same way that playing manhunt 2 inspires people to be murderers? :)
chad @ Nov 20th 2008 2:59PM
p.s. i like my name, but it is unfortunate that i share it with that no-talent-@-clown from nickelback. maybe someone should encourage him to MAKE A NEW FREAKING SONG INSTEAD OF REPACKAGING THE SAME ONE OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN!!1!!!!!11!1
RandomVillain @ Nov 20th 2008 3:01PM
How about that Nickelback douche take his own advice and learn how to play a guitar and sing? Also start a real rock band. Nickelback sucks Id rather play SINGSTAR.
Hardy @ Nov 20th 2008 3:07PM
I always thought this.
Anyone who thinks being a pro in GH or RB is something to be proud of needs to be shot.
Taylor @ Nov 20th 2008 3:10PM
Nickelback BLOWS but I agree.
bhengh @ Nov 20th 2008 3:18PM
Something's gotta be wrong with Guitar Hero, because playing it is feelin' way too damn good.
chad @ Nov 20th 2008 3:26PM
"get real"? it's a video game. it's not real. the conduit isn't real either. it's a video game.
gk128 @ Nov 20th 2008 3:37PM
I now ask Chad Kroeger to stop playing "Musician", because he plays on no fail mode since he is constantly in the red.
KingKRule @ Nov 20th 2008 10:33PM
Ha Ha genious... Long term effects of staying in red are rocks being thrown at you... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQzhOyHTarU
Rocketboy @ Nov 21st 2008 8:27AM
No matter how bad they suck, throwing rocks at a band is a total a-hole move.
Roto13 @ Nov 20th 2008 3:37PM
Please don't have kids.
Roto13 @ Nov 20th 2008 3:40PM
God freaking damn reply system. That was for the self-loathing closet case up there.

Maybe this site DOES moderate it's comments once in a while.

Yeah kids, listen to the man, the next generation of shitty puss-rock songs ain't gonna write themselves!
sixtyfps @ Nov 20th 2008 3:37PM
I'd rather people with no inspiration invest their time playing music videogames than trying to spread their crappy 'creativity' around. Like others have been saying, Nickelback could learn a thing or two from people who choose to do so.
Making good music is more difficult than appreciating good music, and not everyone is worth listening to. So... shut UP! jackass Nickelback frontman.
Roto13 @ Nov 20th 2008 3:39PM
Don't play Call of Duty, go out and join the military.
Don't play Mario Golf, go out and become a pro golfer.
Don't play Grand Theft Auto, go out and become a real career criminal.
Don't listen to shitty Nickelback music, go out and buy a CD of a real rock band.
They have one song with six dozen names. What do they know about music?
Poore Richard @ Nov 20th 2008 4:18PM
If you're considering learning a musical instrument and wish to be on par with such amazing talents such as Nickleback, I wouldn't say the learning curve is very steep. I have yet to hear one note of creativity from anything Nickleback has produced. Lackluster mediocrity at best.
Besides which Guitar Hero doesn't inherently distract those who invest their time in actually making music, many out there have this incredible ability to both play games at times and make music on other occasions.
Maybe it's rare and possibly difficult for a thickheaded hack like Chad to understand, but some among us have this intelligent function that allows us to differentiate reality from video games. It's usually regarded as common sense.
Chad could just be losing gas and is responding by making a desperate attempt to acquire any form of attention possible without actually having to use creativity or talent.
bukizzle715 @ Nov 20th 2008 4:21PM
Oh Chad can go to Hell. They play the most generic cookie-cutter garbage in the universe. And did anyone tell him that Guitar Hero is just a... wait for it... a game?!? Wow??! It's not like I want to stop playing FPSs so I can go out and really shoot people. What an idiot.
Leigh @ Nov 20th 2008 4:26PM
As a Canadian, I apologize to the rest of the world for Nickelback. While I'm at it I also apologize for Celine Dion and Bryan Adams, we promise to try and do better in the future.
Dante G @ Nov 20th 2008 4:43PM
Lol
Yeah, let's not forget Bryan Adams.
sn1per @ Nov 20th 2008 6:38PM
Well, you *did* give us Rush, so you're partially forgiven.
idk if anything could completely make up for Nickelback though.
EricC @ Dec 25th 2008 10:56PM
BNL more than makes up for it all. You're forgiven.
psyborg @ Nov 20th 2008 4:40PM
You guys gave us Skinny Puppy, all is forgiven.
Matt @ Nov 20th 2008 4:46PM
Meh, nickelback isn't RUSH.
Xoviet chiK @ Nov 20th 2008 5:05PM
I'll usually defend the games against this type of statement, and I absolutely abhor Nickleback, but one part of his statement I kind of agree with.
"Kids"
Seriously, Kids, start rock bands. You are young, you still have the capacity to learn an instrument without the frustration of your settled mind getting in the way. Don't stop playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band, but do pick up musical instruments while you are young... You'll regret it if you don't.
Koaluffalo @ Nov 20th 2008 9:35PM
While I do hate this guy's music, and cannot condone the enjoyment of such unispired songwriting, I must admit that the guy is right. I understand the alure of the game (I do enjoy playing), and I understand that the learning curve may be quite a bit higher, but when I see kids who have logged hundreds of hours into guitar hero, polishing their "100% on expert status", it makes me very sad. Learning curve or no, if you sit in a room with a guitar for a hundred hours, you'll find that you can play the guitar half decently. I'm a self taught musician myself, and I do it for a living. The man has a damn good point.
c4jones2 @ Nov 21st 2008 2:43PM
if this was someone, anyone, with talent I might stop and listen for a minute but I have more respect for anyone playing Guitar Hero than I have for Nickelback and their craptastic "music"
EricC @ Dec 25th 2008 11:05PM
That's just the thing, it's always either the no-talent assclowns or the washed-up hasbeens that spout this crap. Look at the laundry list of REAL talent than have lent their music to these games. They either see the merit in the games (my daughter asked for a real guitar and lessons for Christmas after being exposed to RB; she'll be getting them for her birthday in February), or they realize that they're just games.
No one ever says, "Pick up a real M-16!" when discussing FPS games, "Pick up a real football!" when discuss sports games, or "Pick up a real 747!" when discussing flight simulators. You know why? Because they'd sound like a moron. Take the hint, Kroeger.
I, for one, am glad Nickelback's garbage will never pollute the rhythm game genre.
Jones @ Dec 5th 2008 12:19AM
If you want to learn guitar, you must realize that it's a skill that takes time to learn. Only a handful of people can pick up the guitar, or any instrument for that matter, and learn by ear. Only a select few can master the guitar without first learning guitar chords.http://www.totallyguitars.com/
EricC @ Dec 25th 2008 10:57PM
I'll stop playing fake instruments the moment Chad Kroeger stops playing fake music.
