I'm very interested to hear people's responses on this. I've never played an Animal Crossing game, and I'm on the fence on this one. I'm a little confused on the gameplay (is it like the Sims?) and a little worried I'll get bored with the game, really fast.
Abscissa @ Nov 18th 2008 7:26PM
"(is it like the Sims?)"
No, not at all. There are a lot of differences, but probably the biggest difference is that Animal Crossing is actually fun.
ian @ Nov 18th 2008 8:36AM
I loved the first one and I held on to my old GCN copy of it. I just don't see how this is an improvement or even a sequel. It almost qualifies as a port of the GCN version. Am I wrong?
Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with the lack of a graphics upgrade. If I cared about graphics updates I wouldn't own a Wii. I was just hoping they would add more to the gameplay. I've read the reviews and no feature stands out as the "killer app" to get people to buy this game *again*. It's still fishing, catching bugs, moving furniture, and digging up stuff. Give me something new. Give me a car to drive around in, a playground with pickup basketball (or other minigames) - something - anything.

I'm tired of seeing posts for this game. The game looks like a waste of time.
Twinkie Beyond @ Nov 18th 2008 9:04AM
Put a few hours into "City Folk" last night. Pretty much more of the EXACT SAME stuff from before. Not impressed but will continue to play.
Dustin @ Nov 18th 2008 9:08AM
I didn't buy it. I already have that game for DS. Graphics are the same too!
Emrikol @ Nov 18th 2008 9:19AM
After I found out I could use the nunchuck, the world was much better :)
Go1denchi1d @ Nov 18th 2008 2:25PM
indeed! i like pointing my controller away from the screen so i dont randomly move around. it always bugs me when i want to talk to someone and then i shovel the opposite direction.

My roommate went out and got this game yesterday... she plans on returning it today. Said that the only "improvement" is that Tom Nook is more of a douche.
samfish @ Nov 18th 2008 9:23AM
I have absolutely 0 interest in Animal Crossing.
Garu @ Nov 18th 2008 10:21AM
I've really gone back and forth regarding buying the new Animal Crossing game. I loved the DS version and I've never played any other game as much as AC. I still play it once in a while. But I finally decided to pass on it, at least for now. Maybe if it drops in price one day I may give it a stronger consideration. Sorry Wolfgang and Pee-Wee! I wanted to see you guys on my Wii, but I just can't afford $50 on his game if there isn't a bigger leap forward in game play. But I hope to see you both again one day.
TheOverlord#2(AC FC: 1161-3212-7729 Pre-Game Night: Wednesday 7pm) @ Nov 18th 2008 3:02PM
lol
I have Wolfgang.
Garu @ Nov 18th 2008 3:05PM
Wolfgang is awesome! He can be a jerk, but I still love him.
Oh... now I'm having second thoughs on passing up on this game again!
Miike @ Nov 18th 2008 10:25AM
Wow, a lot of negativity. I, actually, really liked it. You can't add much to AC before you completely change them game. Besides, I loved the gc version, and would gladly play it if it had online, so I don't care that it's really similar, it's still fun. Also, I think there's a lot more in the game, I just haven't found it yet.
Garu @ Nov 18th 2008 11:01AM
It was really hard for me to pass up on this. I finally decided that if it wasn't all that different in gameplay from my DS version, I would stick with that, -for now. I may pick it up at a later date. I agree with you that you don't want to change AC too much. But without some advancement it was easier for me to not jump on this the day it came out.
I miss my AC friends!
tlarkin79 @ Nov 18th 2008 10:34AM
Not enough content to justify the $50 price tag. Even calling it an expansion pack to the first game is a stretch. If it was the game and Wii Speak for $50 it wouldn't be as bad, but I wouldn't suggest anyone buy this who already played the original game on the Gamecube.
Really a lazy effort by Nintendo on this one.
say wuh?? @ Nov 18th 2008 10:44AM
I think AC is a very subtle hardcore game, I know people that having been playing for years. So, the user base already knows what's in store - more of the same with a limited amount of 'new' stuff.
WiFi really opened the game up to another level, the Cube version is the weakest in the bunch. If you've never played before - then City Folk is prolly the best to jump into....Wild World is probably the best game ever made. (Zips up flamesuit) It combines all the right elements...I dunno...I've been playing two years solid, every day....and there are still items I have yet to collect.
City Folk - more of the same, just bigger and better. If you already know AC, then you know what you'll get out of it. If you don't know AC then CF is the one to try out and you'll need to put in a least a full weekend of playtime to draw an accurate conclusion on the game - it's too big and involved (oddly enough) to reach a verdict after a few hours of playtime.
I will agree with the statement from some site on City Folk that the addition of the 'City' area is not enough to warranty the sub title of the game.

My 10 year old daughter wants the game for her birthday. She is playing it on her DS now and she heard that she can take her DS game onto the Wii game. So this might be a game that is at my house very soon. The only thing is that I was at Wal-Mart, Target, and Eb Games yesterday and not one of them had it with Wii Speak, Wally and Target said they aren't getting any in with Wii Speak and Eb said they only got 2 in with Wii Speak.
Sora57 @ Nov 18th 2008 9:23PM
I heard you can only import your character and the things in your inventory but not your game progress.
I love the ds game but will not get this.
Roto13 @ Nov 18th 2008 10:58AM
Considering how incredibly disappointed I was that Wild World, I can't see myself buying yet another port-with-extras of Animal Crossing.

Hardy @ Nov 18th 2008 11:39AM
Not enough new stuff.
Seriously, it's EXACTLY like the DS version with a few more pieces of furniture and a city that isn't really that great...
I would assume this is the part of Nintendo everybody hates.
Hardy @ Nov 18th 2008 12:21PM
Actually, let me make a suggestion, to parents and people who want to play Animal Crossing.
Buy the Gamecube version.
That one at least has NES games, which was far and above one of the things that made this game so popular.
www.youtube.commariohenri @ Nov 18th 2008 11:40AM
I never played Animal crossing,but this one doesnt seem have much changed at all.I'll get it unless the price goes down.But its not worth my money.On the other hand they did put chat ability...so i guess it makes the game more fun with the wifi too....;______;
Adrian @ Nov 18th 2008 1:37PM
I was lucky enough to get about an hour of hands-on with this game on launch day. As a good friend of mine picked it up at Gamestop. And, I absolutely love it. It's the culmination of both the previous versions. The developers took the best features from both the GCN and the NDS. If they'd improved the graphics I would've been disappointed. It is "perfection". I've asked Santa Claus to pick it up for me, this Christmas. I plan to play steadily for just over a year, like the other versions. Got to collect everything! Any fan of Animal Crossing will love it. (more than cake, even!)
Adrian @ Nov 18th 2008 1:38PM
Oooooh! I just thought of downloadable content! Wouldn't that be awesome?!
Go1denchi1d @ Nov 18th 2008 2:26PM
Im personally excited to play Animal Crossing again. I love when my brain has time to just melt away on fishing for old tires. (Yes, tires in which I gift to people so they give me better stuff lol)
TheOverlord#2(AC FC: 1161-3212-7729 Pre-Game Night: Wednesday 7pm) @ Nov 18th 2008 3:15PM
1) I don't like the cliffs. I have 1 animal and the Able Sisters that are near the beach/below the cliffs. I have a huge area in there and no reason to be in it. And I have to go to the far right or left side just to get there? No thanks.(They were kind of worth it with the lost & found, Able Sisters, Island, & Wishing Well below my cliffs though)
2) They had 2 years to add more stuff. I wish they would have added more.
Though, it is still worth it. Especially if it were $10 cheaper...
Add me!(I got the WiiSpeak bundle) Pre-Game Night starts Wednesday at 7 p.m.!(Just be sure to leave me your FC)
Abscissa @ Nov 18th 2008 7:23PM
I liked the gamecube animal crossing. I skipped the DS one because I figured a Wii version would be coming, and I vastly prefer playing games on an actual TV. I'm skipping the Wii one because that cylinder-camera is incredibly annoying.
Mike H @ Nov 18th 2008 10:43PM
I, 23 years of age, bought it knowing it was basically going to be the exact same game I bought back however long ago on the cube (and also on the DS), and for the most part it is. Really though it's the subtle differences that i've been enjoying. First off, my wife is into it. Secondly, they've added in more interactions with the animals: (example: an animal just had me pass on a message to my wife for him). The additions are subtle but ones that I still enjoy.
Don't let the city thing fool you. A lot of the city is just stuff that was in the town before on event days now moved a bus stop away.
We're both really enjoying playing it even though it's my third time and her first.
As an experienced ACer, I look forward to the fact that soon when my brother gets the game, I'll be able to write letters to his town and even visit it when he's not playing. Thanks, WiiConnect24
