Shonen Jump spills Blood of Bahamut details
Square Enix launched one of its beloved countdown sites recently, but was beaten to its own reveal by Shonen Jump magazine. The mystery game, as seen in this blurry screenshot, is Blood of Bahamut, an action RPG with four-player local co-op play and 2D sprites on 3D backgrounds. Oh, and it looks a bit like Shadow of the Colossus, though that's more of an observation than a criticism. We're not going to sling mud at any game that is inspired by Shadow of the Colossus, because Shadow of the Colossus is freakin' brilliant.Anyhow, Shadow, sorry, Blood of Bahamut will feature two protagonists, Ibuki and Yui, who live in a city constructed on the back of a giant. On paper, that sounds great -- they'd get lovely views and lots of fresh air, for example -- but their giant keeps getting attacked by other hefty enemies, who they have to ward off. And to think the agent said such good things about the neighbors.
Ruliweb has the full scans, but we also recommend feasting your eyes on this exceptional concept art.

Well the concept at least seems really interesting. I will definitely be following the game closely.

So, I'm guessing this isn't a Bahamut Lagoon follow-up? Anyway, "Yui"... why does that sound so familiar/similar... *glances at Ring Of Fates*

great square games on a Nintendo handheld console and a large amount
of SOMEWHAT crappy games on ninty's home console (and very few of
square's games on ninty's home console at that). you know, i just
can't can't quite get if square likes ninty or not. it's like a
flower (a daisy for example). plucking one off says they do like
ninty. plucking another off says they don't and etc etc.

I don't think squareenix likes anyone, it's just the DS is really successful in Japan (and here) so it makes sense to make games for it. Like most people have been saying, it's the next PS2. Just look at FFXIII, it's going to be released on both PS3 and Xbox360 in NA just to boost sales. S-E favors no one, they look out for what's best for them and only them =)
As for the new game, sounds interesting, but I would rather see a traditional RPG then another action RPG, but it's still welcome.

Sadly, your reasoning that Square-Enix's loyalties are determined by profit potential is probably the main reason that we'll never see Blood of Bahamut outside of Japan. I can recall a few months ago an article in which Square-Enix developers were told by an executive to stop making games that only they wanted to play--in other words, can the creativity because Final Dragon Fantasy Quest Agito XIII: Crisis Ring of Cerberus Re: Chain of Dissidia sells better. TWEWY has only sold a fraction worldwide of the numerous FF and DQ remakes and Sigma Harmonics tanked in Japan, so, considering that this doesn't appear to be a remake or sequel to Bahamut Lagoon, it's probably just being quickly thrown out to die an obscure death because it was mostly done by the time the company decided to turn away from more new IPs. Apparently Square-Enix determined Sigma Harmonics to be too much of a lost cause to invest in localization, so I don't expect any better from Blood of Bahamut.
But yes, anything with even a passing resemblance to SotC immediately grabs my interest. Same reason why I'm following Ougon no Kizuna for the Wii.
