Nintendo hit with another controller lawsuit
Remember that whole Hillcrest Laboratories thing and the Anascape debacle? Seems Nintendo just can't catch a break, as another small company has stepped up and claimed patent infringement against Nintendo for its Wiimote. The latest, filed on November 10th, comes courtesy of Motiva, a small company based out of Ohio. They claim that Nintendo has infringed on U.S. patent (7,292,151) titled "Human Movement Measurement System."Motiva is claiming royalties, damages, and attorney fees for their patent, which was originally filed as a rehabilitation aid, however, in the applications section of their patent, they do list video games. So Nintendo and Motiva will now do the courtroom shuffle sometime soon and we'll be sure to update you all when there's more on the matter.

Patent Trolls
Really Nintendo ought to counter sue those assholes, bankrupt their dumb asses.
Hardy @ Nov 12th 2008 5:19PM
I have to agree. They need to counter sue, or at least have a judge that knows how ridiculous this is getting.
Daryl @ Nov 12th 2008 5:45PM
haha it would make the world a better place

I bet they're using the judge from Phoenix Wright...

It really is rather stupid of these little tiny companies that no one has ever heard of to try to take on what is now probably the biggest and richest video game company in existence. Not the brightest thing to do in the best of circumstances.

maybe these people should file patents against each other, since they all have the same thing?
William @ Nov 12th 2008 5:56PM
i agree with everyone....bc honestly....stuff like this pisses me off....

Why don't they just make a rehab game for Wii then? There problem solved... Wait a minute that's a huge cash cow if done properly. They know Wii Sports, Play, Fit and other games are already being used by hospitals and are greedy/afraid of Nintendo actually coming out with Wii Rehab!
Damn the backlash, FDA, AMA, congressional, medical, psychological, rehab committees commissions and studies to even let such a product be sold or promoted, Motiva wants money from that!

My question is that how come it as taken what, almost 2 yrs for these people to sue. You would think they would of done it right away, but I guess they wanted to see how much money Nintendo could bring in before they sued.
tojfs7931 @ Nov 12th 2008 7:48PM
Im sure Nintendo could buy out each one of those companies that are sueing them wrongfully.

It would bleed ten times worse to absorb trolls than to beat them with fire.
wiiluver135 @ Nov 12th 2008 8:25PM
these people phail at life, hell they need to get a life!
Renigami @ Nov 18th 2008 8:15PM
Well you know what they say... if you can't innovate, litigate. And I hope this absurdity gets thrown out because if you look at the bigger picture of things, they waited to pull this lawsuit, they never realized an actual product, it sounds like another patent squatter.

The Nintendo Wii - the ultimate Patent Troll magnet.
All of these patent suits could have/should have been filed in 2006, when the console was released.
Instead...the plantiffs waited....until they knew Nintendo would be flush with $$/Yen. Once the wrold knew that Wii was the only console this gen that turns a profit, the trolls emerge from under the bridge.
