Wii Fanboy hands-on with the Nyko Wing controller

The first thing I noticed stacking them up side-by-side was that the Wing feels more natural in my hands. Not that the Classic Controller doesn't, but the ergonomic design of the Wing makes it easier to grip and more comfortable. Also, Nyko's controller is just a tad bigger, meaning its more suited to an adult's hands.
Another area the Wing succeeds over the Classic Controller is the analog sticks. The Wing's analog sticks have extra grip on them, more than the Classic Controller's single ring, meaning there's less slipping and sliding your thumbs around on the sticks. Not a huge problem, mind you, but it does help one notice the fault in Nintendo's controller.

And, finally, what of battery life? Well, to tell the truth, I haven't noticed a big difference. Since it uses a wireless dongle that attaches to the Wiimote, it uses the AA batteries in the Wiimote, as well as the AAA in the Wing. However, before using the Wing, I would generally get 8-10 hours of gameplay out of the Wiimote, depending on what I was playing, of course. With the Wing, it's about the same. To say I was surprised would be an understatement.
In the end, the Wing is a great solution. Sure, it's an extra $10 (MSRP lists it at $30, but you can find it for just a few bucks over $20 online), but you're going wireless and you're getting a controller that is more comfortable and will let you play for longer. If you've got the extra cash and are in need of a Classic Controller alternative, check out the Wing.

David, if you were going to play one of the classis Mega Man games... which controller would you pick if you were choosing beterrn the Nyko Wing Controller, the Wii Classic Controller, or the GameCube Wavebird???

Well, I usually don't play any VC games with the GC controller because the d-pad on it is tiny and the Classic Controller is just a better all-around alternative. As for which is better for VC games (or just Mega Man), it's a tough call. It really comes down to preference. Also, if you have rechargeable batteries. If you have the rechargeables, I'd say shop around and get the Wing for close to the cost of the Classic Controller. If you don't have a rechargeable battery solution, then go with the Classic.
Hope that helps!

Speaking of rechargeable batteries, what's a good brand? I've been thinking about getting some...since I usually spend $10 on a pack of 36 alkaline...per...every 6 months?

Re: Rechargeable batteries, I think it depends on how often you play... If you play every day, having a high mAh rating is more important, because the charge will last longer. I've used Energizers for a while, rated at 2500 mAh (AA, the AAAs are lower) and they've served me well.
However, I game much less frequently now, so in my Wiimotes it's turned out to be better for me to use Sanyo Eneloop batteries. They're only rated at 2000 mAh, but they have an extremely low self-discharge rate, so I know that if I don't game for a couple of weeks (sad, I know) my batteries will still be right where I left them. The Energizers would likely be dead after that much idle time. Sanyo has licensed their Eneloop tech to Duracell now, and the Duracell batteries that are marked "pre-charged" are essentially those same Eneloops with a copper-top stuck on.

I already have Nyko's charge kit for my Wii Remote, as well as their Balance Board battery pack. I don't have to buy batteries for my Wii at all. I don't plan on changing that by purchasing a controller that costs $10 more and uses AAA batteries.

Hmm. I think I like the look of the Classic Controller better and the fact that it doesn't require additional batteries is a bonus.
However, I have yet to actually play with a Classic Controller as I only have one downloaded game that could use it (an SNES game). My other games (4 NES and Dr. Mario Online Rx) only need the Wii Remote and the next two games I am planning on getting (Tetris Party and World of Goo) also only need the Wii Remote.
I will probably pick one up some day though...

What about that "turbo" controller? http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=205835396

i use my classic remote for all of my n64 gaming, but for everything else its the hori fighting stick

I use a Chinese PS2->GC controller adapter. (Actually, it's a PS2->XBox1/GC/PC controller adapter, but the XBox1 and PC stuff doesn't help when it comes to VC games) But the GC controller is great for everything that works well with analog control (including many, but not all, N64 games).
