VC Tuesday: Whack an Ogre
The biggest news for Japan's downloadable Wii games this week is the debut of an excellent Square Enix series on the Virtual Console. While it's awesome that the VC will be graced with the first Ogre Battle game from genius creator and Queen fanboy Yasumi Matsuno, it's basically confirmation that Square Enix doesn't care about the series -- like ActRaiser and King's Knight. And Mana. This is no surprise, really, since Matsuno all but disappeared during the development of Final Fantasy XII and isn't at Square Enix to work on more Ogre Battle. The other VC game, Cadash, is a pretty good side-scrolling action RPG type thing from Taito. It's a fantasy game that's got a ninja in it!
- Densetsu no Ogre Battle (Super Famicom, 1 player, 800 Wii Points)
- Cadash (PC Engine, 1-2 players, 600 Wii Points)
- Bakutan (1 player, 500 Wii Points)
- Tataite! Mogupon (1-4 players, 500 Wii Points)

If Ogre Battle comes to the NA VC, you can bet I'll pick it up. You're sadly right about Squenix only releasing VC games that they don't think they can charge people $30+ to play a second time. However, I am at least a little comforted by the fact that this logic means Illusion of Gaia has a chance of appearing on the VC as well. XD

Cadash? Would love to see this stateside. I thought TTI had published it in the US, so I didn't figure we'd ever see it, but this bodes well. :)
The PC-Engine version was the best version of the game and the only one with all the characters (the backgrounds losing their parallax goodness is still disappointing)
Cadash, Legendary Axe, and Wizards and Warriors are all on my list of games I'd love to have again, but figured would not ever make it to the VC.

Man, I loved me some Ogre Battle 64. That game is amazing. I just wish Quest would make a new one.
Crap. I just looked them up and they bought by Square in 2002. Looks like no more Ogre Battle for me.

Much more of a Tactics Ogre fan than Ogre Battle (the difference? Play the two games and you'll see a huge difference)...
If Tactics Ogre comes out - I'll totally get it. (I already got the one on the Playstation, and the "new one" on the GBA - which has humorously bad text -, but I don't have the original or the second remake of it. FYI: I believe the Playstation one was the 3rd remake)
Why? Cuz it's my #1 favorite game of all time.
