Recent rumors about the development, at last, of the Dead Rising sequel have turned our thoughts toward the future of such a game on the Wii. Now that we're getting Dead Rising, albeit in our own retooled version, do you think it's likely we'll see the sequel in some form? If so, will the Wii release coincide with other releases, or will it come later?
The original was flawed by a crippling difficulty, enforced by a silly save system, mediocre visuals, and the timer; it felt like a giant time attack mode. But there were Zombies...in a mall. Hundreds. So that made it redeemable.
If Capcom aren't willing to put in the effort so Wii owners can also see copious numbers of Zombies then they shouldn't bother with a sequel on the Wii. They'll only be damaging the goodwill they still hold over Nintendo fans, unwarranted goodwill, but goodwill all the same. Then again, shunning the Wii could send Capcom further closer to the companies-we-like-to-avoid-club: I hear Ubisoft and Data Design are taking new memberships.
There's no way in Hell it'll ever be made for the Wii. Even if it was, so many people have, perhaps rightly so, written off Dead Rising Wii that a sequel would flop anyway.
It really begs the question of Chop Till You Drop is the same game as the original. It's the same setting, but they retooled an adventure game into an action game with variable difficulty and mission-centered gameplay
So we could see the sequel in the same vein, but who knows
More relevantly: who cares? Wii's got enough goodness in the pipe to keep most anyone satisfied. Since this game is coming out in 2009, it has almost become irrelevant
I could be mistaken, but I believe that Dead Rising is still on track for a North American release this year. I know for sure that Europe and Japan are getting it in '09, but I don't think they've said the US version is '09 yet, too.
The Wii just doesn't have the power of the 360 or the PS3. If they do develop a sequel, they'll have to re-tool it by lowering the graphics and the amount of object on the screen at any given time.
You can't just release a game on all three platform, because the Wii just can't handle it. The PS3 and 360 are the cool kids who can drive to school, and Wii is like riding the special bus.

Anyway, if someone expects it to the same game, they've got no reading comprehension skills. Capcom has described numerous times that this is essentially RE4 with DR skins. And with that few zombies, that's exactly how it looks.
A sequel, just as samfish said, is completely based on sales. But (as if it needed to actually be said) it won't be the same sequel the HD consoles will get.
The Wii could indeed handle Dead Rising. The PS2 was able to push several hundred objects on screen at once. There's no reason the Wii couldn't do the same.
They couldn't just port the 360 code over, and I admit there would probably be an issue with the AI, but some clever programming could eliminate that potential pitfall easy enough.
They'll probably make a squeal but they'll design it to focus on motion controls instead of photorealism and the release date won't be exactly the same unless they hold one of the version back to wait.

Dead Rising for the 360 was the bomb, guts, blood, instant action. All that I've seen is Nintendo editing all the good stuff out. If you wacked a zombie, for: 360:Graphic, tons of weapons, creepy, and awesome bosses, and 800 zombies can be on 1 screen! Also 360 was a platuinm hit AND won awards for best zombie game. Wii:Barely and blood, no gore (Body parts), bosses mostly in daylight (360 at night, so its creepy), limited weapons, and all edited, and 100 zombies on 1 screen. Nintendo your games are great, but no offense, you guys aren't good with "M" games. Guys, compare 800 to 100 zombies on a screen, which one is greater. 800, thats what I thought.
