Nintendo directs Pikmin remake to North America

Nintendo has published a list of Wii releases for 2009, and while it's some way from being a complete list, the news for North America ranges from great to ominous. We want to start this post on a happy note, so we'll begin by saying: the Play on Wii remake of Pikmin -- just the first game -- is totally coming to the U.S. The schedule also confirms the Mario Power Tennis remake for the States, so it looks like those two will lead the brand off here.
But there's worrying news as well. For one, Disaster: Day of Crisis still isn't down for a North American release. Okay, so this isn't actually that surprising, as Reggie (who isn't the title's biggest fan, remember) has said all along that any U.S. release hinges on the performance of the game in Europe. As Disaster only came out in Europe last Friday, we still don't know how it fared, though will find out soon enough. Also missing are numerous Play on Wii remakes, including Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, Chibi-Robo, and the two Metroid Primes.
We'll say this again, just in case: this is definitely a bare-bones list, with not every Wii release of next year featuring. We're not about to give up on getting Disaster just yet.

you know, now that i know Disaster is pretty much just another boring on rails shooter, i don't even really care about it anymore. sigh, such dissapointment.

How will Jungle Beat work? I know you can use the controller, but wasn't the whole point to use the DK Bongos?
Charles Gedeon @ Oct 31st 2008 4:08PM
Didn't matter for that DK racing game, whatever it was called...

Siliconera raised the point that NoA might be skirting this game for maturity issues, which does make sense
At least more so than Reggie's personal distaste

I don't see the point in buying any of these except for maybe metroid.
All the these games controls were fine, and you can buy them on Ebay/Amazon/Bargain bin for super cheap.
Metroid, the new controls might be nice, but other then that, just buy the gamecube games.

I want WIND WAKER!
If and when they release Wind Waker, I can get rid of all my Gamcube games and just have them as Wii ports.
I'm going to buy Pikmin. I never played it and it looks fun.

I want Pikmin II. Never played that one.
Drahken @ Oct 31st 2008 5:03PM
Yes, yes. Pikmin. Great. Playing it with a pointer doesn't really seem like it would be a different experience from the original.
WHY are they balking on Prime?
TheOverlord#2 @ Oct 31st 2008 6:17PM
1) I also want Wind Waker. One of my Top 5 favorite Zeldas definitely.
2) I really hope these are at the most, $30, if they expect a ton of sales at $40, then they truly are greedy. Weren't these games originally $20 under Player's Choice?
3) I'll probably get Pikmin 2 if it comes out before Pikmin 3. I don't particularly like the clock idea and you get to be more free in what you do. Also, more Pikmin, more items, etc. than Pikmin 1.
Wesley Fenlon @ Oct 31st 2008 7:24PM
Yesss, Pikmin. You shall be mine. I want Pikmin 2 far more, though.

Mario Tennis w/motion controls? SWEET.
And the Metroid Prime remakes WILL come to the States. You can quote me on that.

"We're not about to give up on getting Disaster just yet."
It's nice to read this.
Anyway, I'll buy the pikmin remakes, but that's all.
Matt @ Nov 4th 2008 8:08AM
I'd buy the Metroid remakes, but I see we're not getting that, so...blah.
Elsa @ Dec 2nd 2008 1:51PM
I hope there will be a Pikmin 3, 4, 5, etc. BRING THEM ON!!!
