Deadly Creatures almost ready to strike
Remember Deadly Creatures, the game about a tarantula and scorpion who, uh, fight stuff and go on adventures? It seems like it's been forever since we heard about Rainbow Studios' creepy project. Apparently, THQ was planning on a Halloween release, but then Halloween turned out to be today, which is far too soon.
The good news is that Deadly Creatures is finally finished, with a December release planned. Rainbow Studios has used the extra time to refine the camera and the combat systems. Now, the A button is a jab of sorts, with heavier moves assigned to motions."In this way, the gestures act as the exclamation point at the end of the sentence." This sounds like a subtle revision of the No More Heroes-like system we last heard about.
The IGN preview also discusses the two human characters, played by Billy Bob Thornton and Dennis Hopper, whose paths the animal protagonists happen to follow; their story is basically overheard as we go about our arach-nasty business.

You're kidding about Billy Bob and Dennis Hopper, right?

You're kidding about calling tarantulas and scorpions "insects", right?
I mean, *again*.

Thanks for the comment, and I've changed it, but I hope YOU'RE kidding about the implied outrage.

It was more quibble than outrage, and the correction is very much an improvement. I save the real anger for when people call apes "monkeys". :)

Excellent, this game looked good and I was wondering about it. I'm glad that third parties are finally giving Nintendo a chance with the Wii

I had no interest in this game until I saw a developer walkthrough on TV and I finally got to see the game in action. I thought it was more like a vs. pest fighting game, but it's basically an action adventure game where you play as a scorpion or tarantula, with a couple of humans in the background providing the storyline.

I played this at Comic Con and it was not very enjoyable. Some graphics and control issues, but since they refined the controls it might be worth it to check it out again.
