Homebrew Channel beta9 works with latest system update

Well, that was fast. That recent update that wouldn't allow users to install the Homebrew Channel? It's been bested, as the Homebrew Channel beta9 has been released. Among working with the latest update, beta9 also brings the following fixes to the table:

Installer / updater now works with the October 23 update
SDHC support
REALLY fixed the memcard bug
Installer now picks newest sane IOS, fixes some beta8 regressions
Added a reload button (for SD card changes)
Return to system menu skips warning
Fixed some graphical glitches
Saner XML load code
Many fixes to underlying stuff in the newer libogc

The homebrew community is doing nifty things with the Wii. Have you learned how to play DVDs on your console yet? Or read about the app that lets you play games from other regions? What about getting Goldeneye to run on Wii? Alternatively, you could just use homebrew to get your cheat on.

I'm still completely baffled as to how SDHC support was made possible.

If all it takes is code--not hardware--to give the Wii SDHC support, what's keeping Nintendo from official support of this hardware?

Formatting problems, or so they would claim. One of the disclaimers about using SD Cards is that if you have more stuff on the SD Card, there's a higher shot of it getting corrupted, or just taking much longer to read and write back and forth

Of course, with the coming fix in their memory coding, it may become a non-issue, but i still doubt they'll implement it.

My guess why Nintendo doesn't implement it:

I think I heard something about that before. Not directly from Nintendo themselves, but someone else somewhere brought up licensing costs as being the issue.

Really, I wouldn't put it past them (Nintendo).

No Dont update yet.

Half if not more then half of your HBC apps will not work, The Homebrew channel works sure, for me the previous one worked but even with beta9 more then half my apps like GeckoOS no longer fuction i get the message not a valid Wii app. I also updated the Homebrew browser and re-downloaded many of them and no difference

The main reason why ninety don't like like us to have a large capacity sdhc card is the reason why they took on the NDS r4 rom loaders which are based on large capacity sdhc card's. They don't want to allow any piracy of there games, which is stupid, there will always be piracy, when there's a will, there's a way. If the ps2, which was rampant with game piracy [if you didn't own a backup copy of any of the ps2 games, I think you either didn't owned a ps2, hated the ps2, or just couldn't or didn't have the know how to do it] had been like the gamcube and made there dvd's burn in reverse and half the size of the typical dvd, there would of been way less hardware sold. Because when it comes down to it, it's not the cost of the console hardware that ultimately affects your to buy or not decision, it's the cost of each game on the console. Also remember that the gamecube had better graphics then the ps2, yet it sold more. Why you ask, since I owned a gamecube and mulitple versions of the ps2, I'll tell you why; one, there were pc emulators for the ps2 early on in it's life cycle; two, you could easily copy a ps2 game disc; three, there was software to play the copies of game discs on the ps2; four, it was so easy to get backup copies of ps2 games, and five, the gamecube was saddled with the same proven stupid idea as the n64, the anti-piracy cartridge idea but in a new anti-piracy cd based form, by that I mean the pain in the ass size of the gamecube disc's, which I might add didn't hold the total capacity as the ps2's normal dvd's.

LOL, good "holier then thou" attitude bug frawg, I guess you're living in a fantasy world where people don't do bad things just because they can. I know that all ps2 owners do, even though they may claim they don't, which isn't anything new, people have claimed since they beginning of history to not do things that are against the law, immoral or things that are considered by other people to be bad, but guess what people still do anyways. Have you wondered why there is the old saying, "Do as I say and Not as I do"? People when confronted by others for their actions or behavior, will of course say that they didn't mean to or didn't know any better. The of course profits never reach the original makers of the games, yet I don't see them saying to themselves, "awh, the pre-owned games that I buy from gamestop aren't going to help out the people who make the games, and the pre-owned games I buy will only go to help gamestop bottom line, so I should just buy the new full priced game, instead of the pre-owned games that are so much cheaper and still as good, yes I'm going to buy the new game, that came out xx amount of time ago, because I care enough for the game makers to pay full price for a game that came out xx amount of time ago, because I'm a good person and with the bad economy those game makers need more help more then ever."? Honestly the whole Homebrew channel delights me. Being able to play imported games has opened up a big arena of games I'm looking to purchase from Nintendo (Captain Rainbow and Tatsunoko vs Capcom both spring to mind) and should they ever up the capability so it can handle GCN region free as well, then there's quite a few more in the pile...

It also feels so nice to play McKids on a Nintendo console again... You found a card to Birdie's Treehouse!!! *Interracial high-five of AWESOME*

Gecko OS supports Wii as well as GC imports. Except that it's completely killed by the new update.

I wish the Wii were region free, it'd save me all this trouble.

Hopefully either a new update will undead it (brains), or a Gecko OS update will pop up that accounts for this problem.

Probably the wii's system won't recognize the SDHC though. For now only homebrew channel supports it, so it means that you won't be able to use it for anything but putting the homebrew apps on it. And also those apps don't support SDHC yet, so if you have the SNES emulator or ScummVM, you still won't be able to use it for the roms. But probably they will all support it in time to come (except Nintendo, that is)

Crazylink, I think so, but you will need to install the homebrew channel 1st, using an ordinary sd card, and then you can use the new sdhc suport once you have installed the homebrew channel.

so, how do i update my current homebrew channel? i dont know if i still have the twilight hack, but i have the hbc. i already updated the shop channel (didnt read the fine print, too early in the morning and nothing was known at the time), so none of my hbc apps work, so i find no harm in updating the hbc. so, how can i do it?
