Castlevania Judgment just wants to be loved
Will Castlevania Judgment actually be any good? Heck if we know, though recent hands-on previews have labeled it as superior to Soul Calibur Legends. We think that was meant to reassure us.
Anyway, this new trailer is trying its hardest to turn our stubborn, Metroidvania-obsessed heads. The music will always makes us tingly inside, and if you squint hard at this latest video -- squint really hard -- you might detect a spiritual 2008 update to Power Stone.

At what point exactly did Konami become a crappy game developer? Seems like the only good games Konami does are one made by outside companies, like Contra 4 was not done in house... Gradius V on PS2 had to be made with the help of Treasure... Even the Metal Gear Solid series isn't done in house anymore, it's made by Kojima Productions. Silent Hill Homecoming was actually pretty good but isn't as good as the first 3 games... So where did the good Konami programmers go? I'm serious about this.
I want my old Konami back, I want an awesome Contra, Silent Hill, and Gradius made in house... Seems only thing Konami itself makes nowadays is this stupid game and Rumble Roses as well as quite a few other sub-standard title.

Actually, I'm waiting for it. A power stoned (?) Castlevania spin off!
Looks nice to me, but mostly because I like fresh remakes of worn off ideas (even if those ideas are good.)
igorponweed @ Oct 22nd 2008 7:12PM
Looks like Power Stone meets Soul Calibur, covered in Castlevania. Sadly not getting it though. Maybe if it's better than the characters look.

Characters designer is mangaka Takeshi Obata of Death Note fame.
Is kind of weird to see Castlevania characters with so many details and clichéd color patterns when we're accustomed to colorful tiny sprites. Anyway if it offers a clean no-lag Wi-fi gameplay it has it chance.
I really like the idea of expanding the Castlevania universe, even with those 64 games that weren't half bad.
As I always say, don't judge it until played it.

That looked like teh poop.

That voice still doesn't seem deep enough for Alucard's build, and Maria still looks like Misa.
Then again, I'm not all that intimate with SotN, so my musings are of little consequence.

Damn if this comment wasn't delayed. I should check my e-mail more often...

i want classic gothic costumes! then i'll be happy :)

This game would probably be great if they would just confine it to a 2D plane.

I wonder when they will release a new 2d game, one with high resolution character models that are highly stylized (NO 3d sprites!). They could add animations in for even the most mundane tasks such as opening a door, and I mean full animations specific to each action. No cel shading, no 3d models, maybe a waterpainted look or something. They could add a few new gameplay elements and each item could reflect on the characters apperance, mobility, etc. When I get a new chest peice I want my character to look different and play different.
I'll add again I don't want to see any 3d models at all, not even the characters, just pure 2D visual sex. Just spice up what they do best somewhat like Nintendo did with New Super Mario Bros., just without the 3d models of course.

I want it to feel like I'm playing a work of art, like there was a true human touch to bringing the game to life. Somewhat like Miyazaki after directing a few computer assited animated films recently released an entirely hand pencil drawn feature length film "Ponyo on the Cliff by the Sea."

I'm modding you up. Because, well I can. And I like your ideas. Do you have newsletter that I can subscribe to? :-)

Better than soulcalibur legends?? Soul Calibur Legends was a terrible game, if this game is just better than SCL, then is not worth buying.
SoshiKitai @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:13PM
No no no... you see it might be good if IT'S MUCH BETTER THAN SCL.
You see, they never mentioned HOW MUCH BETTER it is.
...heck, Odin Sphere and No More Heroes is better than SCL, does that make them not worth to buy? :P
Randy @ Oct 23rd 2008 11:09AM
This game is trying too hard to be loved. I just want it to go away. The sad part is that Konami will likely gauge the sales to mean that no one wants a Castlvania game. When the truth is we want one, just not this one.
CJLopez @ Oct 23rd 2008 3:11PM
This game deserves at least a download
But really, weren't they able to work more the graphics??? I mean, look at Soul Calibur 3 and look at this game, and you'll get my point
SoshiKitai @ Oct 23rd 2008 4:13PM
If it's fun... I'm all for it.
