It's Super Paper Mario for me.
Well, actually, I don't remember much about the story, but Count Bleck was a really sympathetic character. I actually felt for him, which is rare for me when playing a video game.
There was also Harvey Birdman.
Insanus @ Oct 21st 2008 8:20AM
Why WarioWare of course! :P
But I guess I'll say zelda, since the only games with an actual storyline I played were that and galaxy.
Btw, I love the pic!
electric @ Oct 21st 2008 8:26AM
Zelda:Twilight Princess was my first game and the best game experience i ve ever had.The story is perfect also the graphics and music are awsome.Super mario galaxy is also a great game memorable (i hope for a sequel).Metroid Prime corruption a must have game for every wii owner. I think wii succeed to satisfy nintnedo fans and it's early to let them down and stop releasing great titles .. waiting for surprises
lobotomies4free @ Oct 21st 2008 9:54AM
No More Heroes. Twilight Princess was close but too close to other Zeldas for my taste. The fact that Travis's live mirrors that of a gamer just pushed it over the top for me
Nigeria @ Oct 21st 2008 11:00AM
No More Heroes! I totally forgot about that one. That had an awesome story too.
Neal Dench @ Oct 21st 2008 9:00AM
I think it has to be Twilight Princess for me. It was my first Zelda game, so any elements of repetition were meaningless to me and it was all fresh.
Have to agree with Nigeria as well though. I was absurdly touched at the ending to Super Paper Mario.
samfish @ Oct 21st 2008 9:23AM
Okami.
It's the only time I've ever cried while playing a game. Hell, I've never even cried during a movie!
I wish that game could have gone on forever and ever.
Sonic_13 @ Oct 21st 2008 10:01AM
While Twilight Princess had a fantastic story, I'm going to have to go with Super Mario Galaxy. The opening sequence is without a doubt my favorite part from any video game I've ever played. The worlds are so fantastically designed it makes for one of the most enjoyable video game experiences ever.
I haven't yet had the chance to pick up Metroid Prime 3, but from what I've seen via the Metroid Prime 3 Preview Channel the game looks like it also has a fantastic storyline.
Thunderbird @ Oct 21st 2008 11:15AM
Super Smash Bros. Brawl SSE, it had a great story. It probably isn't as good as Twilight Princess or Metroid Prime 3 but I haven't gotten far enough in Twilight Princess and I don't own Metroid Prime 3 yet.
Eoide @ Oct 21st 2008 11:31AM
Super Paper Mario had a good and funny story.
TWOO DEE @ Oct 21st 2008 11:43AM
*possible spoilers*
Nothing new here - going with No More Heroes on top (just finished this last night - wtf@a 'real ending'!) followed by Twilight Princess then Super Paper Mario (which i couldn't bring myself to finish [sooo much text] and sold to GS). I'll eventually rebuy SPM to finish it but at the time, I just really couldn't sit through a damn novel.
Metroid Prime 3 is in there somewhere but having only a limited amount of exposure to Prime 1 and never even touching Echoes, I coulnd't really be impacted by the story.
TWOO DEE @ Oct 21st 2008 12:27PM
as impacted*?
Mr Khan @ Oct 21st 2008 1:11PM
I quite liked Metroid Prime 3's story, also Okami's
Roto13 @ Oct 21st 2008 1:53PM
Game stories tend to suck. So far this console generation there has been one game with a story I actually found interesting enough to want to pay attention to it, and it's not a Wii game.
Thanatos @ Oct 21st 2008 2:23PM
I liked No More Heroes story, im about 2/3 through Okami so i cant fully comment on that so far its really good, MP3 was great, Zelda TP has great right up till the end -Spoiler- I wanted Zant to be a badass over the whole thing instead of the stupid puppet he turned into at the end -/Spoiler-
TheOverlord#2 @ Oct 21st 2008 2:57PM
He kind of was because Zant *spolier*killed Ganon when he cracked his neck. I guess they both shared powers though.*spoiler*
Though they should have made him more badass instead of the coward he was before he got*spoiler*Ganon's powers.*spoiler*
pjsingh @ Oct 21st 2008 3:12PM
The twilight saga lol (books for all you idiots)
pjsingh @ Oct 21st 2008 3:13PM
Srry didnt mean to space it
leonus11 @ Oct 21st 2008 5:40PM
definitely twilight princess! that games story was epic!i played and ended it twice! matter of fact i think i'll go play it through again right now!
MidnightSun @ Oct 21st 2008 6:14PM
How could anyone not go with Super Mario Galaxy? Rosalina is a great character that has an extremely deep background and emotion and storyline. Twilight Princess and the other Zelda games also excel, though.
Staibdude @ Oct 21st 2008 6:27PM
I loved the Brawl storyline. It was putting all the classic Nintendo characters into one, big book. I liked Twilight Princess, but the story was WAY too short for my taste. I was expecting 5 more dungeons by the time Ganondorf died. (Don't know if that's even a spoiler since he dies in EVERY ZELDA GAME EVER.) They could have talked about the original Twilight tribe a lot more, too. When it comes to games with amazing stories, however, I think the Wii is very lacking. All of their stories are too short, too unattached or there is none at all. *coughwariocough* It's just a big collection of party games when it comes to the Wii. Which isn't a bad thing, but I would like to see some good stories that Nintendo has cranked out. Let's hope the next Zelda and Mario games fill that hope! I was EXTREMELY disappointed when Pokemon Battle Revolution had nothing in it. It's great for 3D battles, but it didn't even have any minigames that fans of Pokemon Stadium used to love. Besides, (this bugs the CRAP out of me), all the Wii is known for is Wii Sports. It's the only game anyone wants to play. So I guess Nintendo thinks that as long as they keep small multiplayer games coming out, they'll be fine. I want to feel the awesomeness of beating Ganon after saving Zelda from a pink crystal again! Nintendo, define "epic"!
zchry @ Oct 21st 2008 7:50PM
Ugh! And the DS Pokemon games stories were kinda crappy to me.
SPOILER: Seriously. They want to solve the energy crisis. Why stop them? They never explicitly did anything wrong to Pokemon. Deal with the thieving, etc. and leave them alone.
Also, does it tick you off when someone ads "the" randomly to titles? I can't stand hearing "THE Wii Fit," "THE Mariokart," or "The Legend of Zelda: THE Twilight Princess!"
zchry @ Oct 21st 2008 7:46PM
Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Paper Mario were the best for me thus far. LostWinds, while simple, was pretty fair in the story district. Sonic and the Secret Rings loses points for awful voice acting. :)
And I know, TP and SMG were both cookie-cutter Nintendo stories, but the additional princesses (*mini-spoiler* Midna and Rosalina) had very engaging (*mini-spoiler* and even sad) side-storylines.
zchry @ Oct 21st 2008 7:52PM
SPOILER:
I agree. Zant had power in the end. It may have just been Twili power (which, FYI, is kickass anyways), though. I think they should, down the road (not immediately by any means), bring him back as the main baddie in a Majora's Mask-type storyline.
Deozaan @ Oct 21st 2008 10:41PM
Speaking of Okami: When are they ever gonna get around to mailing out those replacement covers? They told me it would be "in the next few weeks" and that was 6 months ago.
Ampharos64 @ Oct 23rd 2008 10:24AM
I believe people have been starting to get the covers, so hopefully yours should come soon too.
Easily Okami. The story gets gradually more complex as the game progreses, and I thought the way Japanese mythology and folklore was woven in was really interesting. The game also managed to surprise me - often, when you play a game (or read a book, in many cases) you could probably predict a lot of what will happen, but not only did Okami have some unexpected twists, it managed to put a new spin on certain concepts, like the 'chosen hero'. Best of all, the eccentric characters were truly endearing - I really cared about what happened to them, and was drawn into their world.
Jake @ Oct 21st 2008 11:16PM
I'm surprised on how little Okami has been mentioned. It was one of the few games in which I felt the need to beat the bad guys into smithereens.
