I'm fine with all of the sequels that are being made, I won't buy all of them obviously, but they are fine.
The only thing that really makes me angry, is the lack of a Pokémon Snap sequel.
zchry @ Oct 19th 2008 1:34PM
MAN! Pokemon Snap was the BOMB back in the day! :)
Although, it could work for the Wii. Hold the Wiimote sideways, moving it moves the camera, use the A or B button to snap a picture...
gayboyDS @ Oct 19th 2008 1:49PM
"Oh, SNAP!"
time @ Oct 19th 2008 11:05AM
Sequels are Nintendo's strong point. All of the sequels that are being produced now seem great.
Psalm Bowser @ Oct 19th 2008 11:21AM
Why'd you put Wii Sports Resort up there, Karabinus? Wii Sports is still the greatest Wii game out yet, and the sequel looks oh so much better. Come on, you know it's going to be amazing.
Punch Out looks awful.
Matthew @ Oct 19th 2008 12:00PM
I'm onboard with you Psalm Bowser... Punch Out I guess will give many old NES players that nostalgic feel but it's style is way to outdated. As a gamer who does love boxing, it's hard to play anything like that after having touched Fight Night Round 3. Pfff, I'm still in limbo because Nintendo has been such a **** to not release Fatal Frame over here yet =@
hellhammer @ Oct 19th 2008 2:38PM
"Punch Out I guess will give many old NES players that nostalgic feel but it's style is way to outdated. As a gamer who does love boxing, it's hard to play anything like that after having touched Fight Night Round 3."
Except that Punch-Out!! is a boxing themed game, not a boxing or fighting game. The concept behind Punch-Out!! is a complicated game of 'Simon' style puzzles, hidden under boxing skins. Comparing it to actual boxing/fighting games isn't really fair.
Anyway, I'm most interested in Trace Memory 2. Though I have a feeling NOA is going to continue to treat us like Sega Saturn fans and just let us import the good stuff...Cause, you know, that's easier for them to do ...Instead of just releasing it in NA.
Nebinator @ Oct 19th 2008 3:54PM
Wii sports isn't the greatest game. It's an OK game, but I can list tons of better games.
Hamster @ Oct 20th 2008 8:20AM
"Wii Sports is still the greatest Wii game out yet" Really?! I wouldn't even put it in my top 10.
Haohmaru @ Oct 19th 2008 11:31AM
Corrected: "Punch-Out! looks awesome." I know that has to be what you meant to type. Surely.
Psalm Bowser @ Oct 19th 2008 11:48AM
I actually meant: Punch Out looks awfully tired, awfully similar to a NES game I played many moons ago.
murray b @ Oct 20th 2008 11:27AM
Yeah, that's why punch out looks great. I'm also looking forward to the eventual release of super punch out.
Alexisonfire @ Oct 19th 2008 11:58AM
Tales of Symphonia 2. The original I highly anticipated, but the eventual end result was an annoyingly repetitive battle system, a story that felt uninspired, and a game that went to great lengths to unnaturally extend the game length.
The sequel doesn't look much different.
HiddenEmerald @ Oct 19th 2008 12:18PM
I mean, sure, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but how the ****ing **** can you not like Tales of Symphonia. That's the best RPG (or at least second best) out there on any system. For all the people who love the old games and want to kill me for saying that, I'm young, and I haven't played the nes games.
I'm psyched for most sequels, and there isnt anything that I would say WTF to.
Haohmaru @ Oct 19th 2008 12:02PM
Wii Sports 2 will become the best selling game on the Wii since release, which is sad in my opinion - it looks like a pretty shallow game in comparison to the likes of Super Mario Galaxy and Metroid Prime 3.
I'd rather spend my money on Punch Out and Sin & Punishment 2, thanks.
holmes @ Oct 19th 2008 12:23PM
wii sports: resort looks terrible. the original wii sports was innovative and fun, and it had plenty of replay value. there doesn't appear to be anything great or new in the sequel that will want me to play it more than once. in other words, it's basically a new wii play.
i haven't seen enough of punch out!!! yet to make a decision. i'm just hoping there's more than jabs and uppercuts. the game needs more depth or it'll be yet another i'll buy, play twice, and then trade in.
SoshiKitai @ Oct 19th 2008 12:36PM
Lots of wii sports resort hatred out there... does no one want to beat up friends and family in the sword fighting game???
As much as the other sequels are great and awesome, WSR is on the top of my Wii anticipation list... mainly cuz of the sword/stick fighting.
And besides people, we haven't even played the game yet. We shouldn't be judging it so soon. I understand if we start judging something like NMH2 and other such, since the games before that had a formula we got used to. WSR on the other hand, all we've got to judge it from is Wii Sports. And can you REALLY judge that badly from that from the little that we've tried with family? (other than you weird people who hated Wii Sports)
Hamster @ Oct 20th 2008 8:37AM
I think a lot of people are against a sequel to Wii Sports because it's the last thing that the Wii needs. The success of the Wii Sports bundle has single-handedly taken the Wii down the path that it's gone down. The image of Wii Sports is sadly the only image that most people have of the Wii which is why the vast majority of people see the Wii as little more than a party game console (for good or bad) and hence the vast majority of games are party games. Surely this is an image that the Wii needs to now break away from, otherwise the Wii will forever be merely 'The Wii Sports Console' and little more.
Also the whole thing seems a bit forced and contrived. Wii Sports had Tennis, Golf, Baseball, Boxing and Bowling, whereas Wii Sports Resort has the rather obscure and seemingly random likes of Disc Dog (?!) and Beach Sword Fighting (?!?!!). Seems like they wanted to make some easy cash by churning out a quick Wii Sports sequel but didn't actually have any sports to put in it.
Mr Khan @ Oct 19th 2008 1:21PM
The games listed all either need or deserve sequels. Red Steel needed one, because it was a neat concept ruined by the limitations of early Wii development (and i would give a big "yes, please" to a refined, online version of that multiplayer system they had going)
Wii Sports obviously didn't need a sequel, but something to show off the new abilities of the controller will work well, and help to massively boost motion plus's install base on the platform.
Sin & Punishment deserved one, and Punch Out!! is going to be bags of fun, especially since we know that Next Level Games (of Strikers fame) is developing it, and they seemed to have a good sense of both fun and violence
No More Heroes deserves one, and with the incredibly campy universe it exists in, you can kinda throw story concerns out the window
Markez @ Oct 20th 2008 12:09AM
I picked up a cheap copy of NMH for 20 beans, it's not too shabby. Although I truly was blown away at how poorly done the 'sandbox' portion of it was. If they clean that up and make it a worthwhile part of the game, I'm on board.
I wouldn't mind seeing a true Chibi-Robo sequel. I'd really be game for another Boom-Blox, I think they really blew it when they didn't make it easy to share user-created levels.
zchry @ Oct 19th 2008 1:36PM
None of the listed ones really irk me. They all could use sequels. They couldn't use them any more than Zack & Wiki could, or Professor Layton (holy freaking crap).
Crustin @ Oct 19th 2008 1:52PM
I'm excited about the recently announced "Wii Music 2"!
Jordan @ Oct 19th 2008 4:00PM
I'm fine with the upcoming sequels (yes, even Wii Sports Resort...considering how angry everyone was at Nintendo at the time, the fact that a "casual game" got such enthusiastic previews has to count for something.)
However, while we're on the topic of sequels, here's my personal wish list of follow-ups for Wii.
-Luigi's Mansion 2 (I'm not sure how vacuuming would work, but using IR for the flashlight would be intuitive and fun.)
-Mega Man 10 (You know you want it.)
-Legend Of Zelda Wii (Yes, we all know it's coming. However, since it hasn't been technically announced yet, I'm still including it here. I'm personally hoping for MotionPlus sword controls, a combination of Wind Waker's cel-shading and a non-flooded Hyrule, and a fully-orchestrated soundtrack.
...A guy can dream.)
-Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Need I say more?)
-WarioWare: Mega Balance Games (You know how stupid you look playing WarioWare? You know how stupid you look when you play Wii Fit? Combine the two, and you have the most ridiculously awesome party game in the history of gaming.)
Jordan @ Oct 19th 2008 4:01PM
...Whoa, long comment is long.
Sorry 'bout that.
Markez @ Oct 20th 2008 12:13AM
Eh, long comment is fine comment.
Your bit on Zelda really, really, makes me want to play Wind Waker again, I reallllllllllly loved that game, such a big game universe and things to do. It's hard to choose a favorite between WW and TP, but I'd have to lean towards WW.
I'm only with ya on the WarioWare if they gave you the option to exclude balance board minigames. They should really just take another stab at the one they already made, it was just way too shallow. I think the balance board might be too much of a 'slow working' controller to be on pace with microgames, if you follow me.
Patius @ Oct 19th 2008 4:29PM
I didn't like Wii Sports very much, but Wii Sports Resort will be bought, mostly cause it has the Wii Motion plus with it.
MidnightScott @ Oct 19th 2008 11:39PM
I'm excited :)
Blue_Falcon @ Oct 20th 2008 1:00AM
I'm not looking forward to the Wii Music sequel.
It hasn't been announced yet, but you know it's bound to happen given the boatloads it will sell despite being borderline shovelware.
Hamster @ Oct 20th 2008 8:21AM
Well said.
Hamster @ Oct 20th 2008 8:23AM
Hey, that was meant to be a reply to Haohmaru. Oops!
Joe Cart @ Oct 20th 2008 6:10PM
I never would've thought of a sequel to No More Heroes, but now that I know there will be one I couldnt be more excited
Shubham @ Oct 25th 2008 10:54AM
Wii sports resort I dont want to look forward to. just want it for wii motion plus. NO more Heroes sequel is going to be awesomeness! Redsteel was OK.
