It's-a Mario World: Fan Art

This week has been relatively quiet in terms of Mario-related news, but should that deter us from our regularly scheduled plumber fanfare? If you answered "yes," you're wrong. It was a trick question. Today is Friday and we are going to damn well talk about Mario. We don't take this feature lightly. In fact, each Friday the WiiFanboy offices are rife with Mario cosplay and Mush Kingdom decor. We even release various species of turtles and name them after the Koopa Kids to keep us company during the course of the rigid blogging workday.* This blogger is presently sporting his sweet denim overalls, beneath of which are a pair of Goomba boxer briefs that he probably grew out of years ago and a Toad tank top that reads, "I'm the best!!"
So! All things considered, let's dive into this thing. Today we're admiring Mario fan art, and our new gallery is comprised of what we feel to be the outstanding work among so many scribbled Mario atrocities on the Internet. We kept this collection mostly limited to hand drawings, digital renders and photographs, which means you won't be seeing any wedding cakes. Now kick back and click through!

While pretty much all of these are definitely from very talented artists, at the same time I think some of them aren't very good because I just don't think it's a good interpretation of Mario, especially the realistic/surreal ones. Just my view, feel free to think i'm wrong :)

Part of the reason I'm attracted to the surreal depictions of Mario is that they offer a refreshing departure from the flawless allegory sold by Nintendo.

Thanks for contributing! I also appreciate "Little Mario in Frogsuit," but I had already included two pieces by Dirk Schulz. He is really talented. Mike Mitchell's with the T-rex is great, too. Mario looks like a little cheese ball or something.

Why did "Handre" feel it necessary to show Mario and Luigi's junk bulging through their clothes? *shudder*
Smoke @ Oct 18th 2008 10:57PM
Because that's pretty much his style. He's done a few more in a similar vein of other games, including Megaman, Kirby and Adventure Island. There's prints for sale here: https://www.awfulmart.com/store.php?crn=210

Isn't there an artist who depicted Mario and Luigi as very obese people with hammers, crushing turtles? They looked pretty happy too, and it was a fairly realistic style for the drawing. I know that's probably not very descriptive, but I remember that drawing and I can't find it anywhere...
I'm hoping someone knows what drawing I'm talking about.

Sounds interesting. I don't know if I have ever seen that. Maybe someone will provide a link?
