Metareview: Sam and Max: Season One
Sam and Max: Season One has finally released on the Wii. We've been talking about the duo coming to the Wii for some time now. Has the wait been worth it? There haven't been that many reviews yet, so we'll keep updating this post when they come in. But, that's not to say a few outlets haven't tossed their two cents in. So, without further delay, let's get to the scores.
- 1UP (67/100) explains you'll need lots of patience to get through this one: "The game's still fun and unusual, and it's worth checking out if only to enjoy some of the more clever writing in gaming. But don't forget your patience -- you'll need lots."
- Game Informer (70/100) found the gameplay to be lacking: "When the laughter dies and some of the jokes fall flat, however, Sam & Max teeters as its gameplay is unable to support much interest for some stretches." [Sept 2008, p.105]
- Nintendo Power (70/100) says the game isn't really that funny: "There are moments of genuine hilarity, but the humor too often feels overwrought or simply falls flat." [Oct 2008, p.89]

OBJECTION!
No it wasn't. according to Gamestop, it was delayed for another day.
Man that pissed me off when I was going to pick it up.

I feel Sam & Max have a very witty and dry type of comedy. Obviously reviewers dont fully appreciate that type of comedy, which is fine to each his own. I for one am definatly picking this one up.

You know, it wouldn't bother me too much to pick this up for the Wii, but I know I can walk into a Wal-mart and get the same version for PC for $10. It's hard to justify coughing up another $20 for the same content even if it is really good.
I tend to disagree with the reviewers, though. I played through some of this (part 4 is free) and it's pretty entertaining and challenging enough for an adventure game. At this time, I have a hard time justifying the cost when the PC edition can be obtained for 1/3 the cost.

If it wasn't for the fact that I played all of Season 1 when it was initially released, I'd be all over this. Those reviewers puzzle me, because when Telltale released the PC episodes, they got rave reviews. These shouldn't be any different.

These are actually the lowest reviews so far - several others have are in the 80s. http://www.gamerankings.com/htmlpages4/945731.asp

What kind of funny math are you doing with that 1up score? How does a B- = 67/100?
I'm a teacher, and in my class, a B- is anywhere from 80%-83.33%
Their website clearly says that "B+ through B- is good"
67 (at least to a teacher) does not sound good.

Perhaps they rate on 0-100 rather than the grading system at most schools (50-100). Anything lower than a 50 is still an F at school.
