Check out Tom Nook's price gouging
We all know how crooked Tom Nook is. He has no problem with turning new residents into indentured servants, tasking them with delivering packages and carrying out other duties throughout each Animal Crossing game. Once freed from his grip, however, you're free to give him money by checking out the only game in town, his shop. Curious as to how Tom Nook's store evolves from a shed to the big mart it becomes after you've given him many, many Bells? Check out the video above.

The economics of Animal Crossing are baffling. Tom Nook is one of the only sources of money in the game. You collect stuff and sell it to him, only to turn around and give the money back to him so you can get a bigger house. I've given this guy millions of Bells, and probably only 5% of that money has come from other places. Money trees, magic rocks, or insurance payment from bee-stings and forged paintings.
When other residents pay you for chores, the money likely came from Tom Nook.
Tom Nook can't possibly make any real profit at this point. The money is just moving in circles through the small town. He may as well just give you the house and call it quits.

Well consider two things...
1. Where does he get the NEW furniture from? ... (and where the heck did he get the moon)
2. How do you know his real name IS Tom Nook? What if "Tom Nook" is a codename for a member of a huge underground financial network? What if every Nook in every town was somewhat connected to one another? :O
...that, and maybe he makes some below-the-table deals with Crazy Redd...

I'm pretty sure Tom Nook was working with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and is somehow responsible for all the recent bank problems in America.

Tom Nook's shop is clearly a front. He launders money through it and you in the form of house loans/payments and product purchases/sales. You're just a pawn and don't even know it.
I wonder if you'll meet any of Tom Nook's mafia connections now that you can go to the big city.
And if you haven't guessed by now, Crazy Redd is their fence.
Resetti's on the payroll too, making sure you don't weasel out of any deals.
Watch your back.

Tom Nook is definitely up to no good in yo' hood.
Garu is right, he's somehow responsible for the mortgage crisis going on. Once someone looks into this whole thing, he's going to be right there!
OH MY GOD! I think Tom Nook heads the Illuminati!!!!

Tom Nook is guilty of child labor.
Just look at those kids of his he forces to work for him.
I'll bet the hours are bad, and the pay very little.
That tricky raccoon.
