Wii Warm Up: Taiko Risk Assessment

Since the release of the PS2 game, Guitar Hero and Rock Band have somehow moved the music game out of the exclusive realm of people like us and into the mainstream. You probably know people who have one of those games. There's another factor in Taiko's favor this time: it's basically a party game, and the Wii is openly hospitable toward those.
Do you think a Taiko could be a success on the Wii outside of Japan? Are Americans ready to bang on a tiny replica of a Japanese drum in time with "Katamari on the Rock"?

This genre needs to die.
Hopefully Wii Music will come along and suck whatever life there is in this stupid trend.

Anybody who spouts bullshit about how Taiko needs to die is a giant retard. Do not fuck with Taiko.
And did Mr. Fletcher forget how Cubed3.com held a poll for the Taiko Wii devs as to how people wanted a localized version to come, with Japanese songlist intact?

And shame on you for assuming Wii Music for being a viable alternative. That isn't even a goal-based game.

I love Music games...(not Guitar Hero though...I despise it...Ouendan & Taiko ftw)

Or...you could just buy an SD Card and get the Homebrew Channel with Gekko Region Free(I think is the name...?).

They definitely should localize the Wii version. I've imported both of the DS Taiko games and would have bought a local version of them too. I enjoy playing Rock Band and Ouedan-type rhythm games. There's definitely room for both genres. I'm still not sure what the point of Wii Music is yet because I haven't played it, but it seems like it's aimed at a younger audience. Maybe it will serve to introduce kids to music games and when they grow up they'll play Rock Band or even a real instrument.

I want it, I'd buy it...and I'm pretty sure there's enough people who agree to make it worth their while.

We're talking having a physical drum and sticks to hit with for the wii version right? Not something really stupid like using both wiimotes in mid-air? If we are talking the former, I'm all for it; PS2 taiko was awesome. But I will NOT accept a wiimote flailing version of this game, nor will I accept a wiimote glove-like cover that you use to hit against something either; the wiimotes just aren't good at all for drumming with.
