High Voltage announces new WiiWare racer
It would appear that High Voltage made a pretty penny or two from their last WiiWare release, Gyrostarr, as the company has announced they're working on a new game for WiiWare. Titled High Voltage Hot Rod Show, this game will be hitting WiiWare this fall and features a "unique stunt system" that gives players "multiple ways to build boost." The game will utilize the company's Quantum 3 engine technology and has support for up to 4 players via local split-screen, features 5 racers, and has 6 different tracks.
After checking out the trailer above, be sure to hit up our gallery below, which has screens from the game, as well as some promo art and wallpapers!

I would love to see Wiiware sale numbers, especially a comparison between the first month and September. There's just so much trash on the service, it's been so devalued, that I do wonder whether it's really worth it, financially speaking. Of course, if you put in €20 in R&D then it really doesn't matter.

Looks cool, I'm still looking for something to replace Rock 'n Roll Racing from that violent fun-racer spot in my heart. The engine looks like it can handle very different game styles. Maybe these guys will finally be the steady breeze of development ideas that us Wii owners have been waiting for.
BBFP @ Oct 11th 2008 12:48PM
The game play looks good but why HOT RODS?!!!!!!
Monkey Thing?!!? @ Oct 11th 2008 1:02PM
We might have a new Rare on our hands here
Nintendo really needs to look into a buyout.
igorponweed @ Oct 11th 2008 1:30PM
Whats the point? They'll just abandon us in a gen or two, and leave us by ourselves for an unpopular 5 years.
ZombiePikmin @ Oct 11th 2008 1:21PM
I was gonna compare them to bungie
igorponweed @ Oct 11th 2008 1:05PM
Awesome. Looks like Mini Excite Truck meets Mini Pure.
Alvin @ Oct 11th 2008 1:13PM
this is shovelware, nothing more, nothing less.
Nebinator @ Oct 11th 2008 2:18PM
That's not true. High Voltage has never made shovelware, and never will.
Monkey Thing?!!? @ Oct 11th 2008 2:27PM
I would call it shovelware if it were a disc-based release
Which many companies would try to pass it off as. It fits neatly as a WiiWare game.
TFoK (Naked Peach Defense Force) @ Oct 11th 2008 3:23PM
"That's not true. High Voltage has never made shovelware, and never will. "
Either that's baaaaad sarcasm, or you've just never looked into High Voltage's history.
TheOverlord#2 @ Oct 11th 2008 4:18PM
Yea, a quick Wikipedia search for High Voltage Software reveals they have a questionable past(software-wise).
Monkey Thing?!!? @ Oct 11th 2008 4:59PM
Aye. Four years ago they would've made this game, but it would've been "Family Guy Racers" or some other license poorly tacked on
High Voltage is a Wii success story. They never had an opportunity to show their talent until Wii came along. Now we have Animales de la Muerte, The Conduit, this, and Gyrostarr.
Nebinator @ Oct 11th 2008 9:06PM
I was referring to their wii titles.
Alvin @ Oct 11th 2008 10:00PM
I LOVE HIGH VOLTAGE AND THEIR WORK ON THEIR WII, but this is just bad, seriously, i RESPECT high voltage, but if this didn't have the High Voltage name, people would automatically call it shit
bug frawg @ Oct 12th 2008 3:38AM
@alvin: that's still a snap judgement, you can't tell from screens if a game is good or bad.(there were several good racers in this style)
MowDownJoe @ Oct 11th 2008 1:33PM
Did anyone else hear the horn for the General Lee?
m-p{3} @ Oct 11th 2008 3:15PM
Meh. Still waiting after The Conduit.
Rocketboy @ Oct 11th 2008 3:49PM
Danger indeed.
bug @ Oct 11th 2008 3:54PM
Yeah, that looks like RC Pro Am, Penny Racers, or Rock n Roll Racing.
My only complaint is that it has SIX tracks.
Think they have planned DLC where each new track is 100 points (or a pack of 5 for 400)?
8-bit.artist @ Oct 11th 2008 9:46PM
where is Animales de la Muerte already! shit man
Aaron @ Oct 12th 2008 12:42AM
Alright. I guess I'll be the dissenting voice in this sea of pessimism. I think the game looks like a riot, and *anything* with a 4-player split-screen mode in this generation is rare indeed.
Hot Rod Show and Animales de la Muertes look to both be solid downloads and exactly the kind of quality software I had in mind when Nintendo announced WiiWare. Kudos to High Voltage. Keep supporting the Wii, please.
Nietha @ Oct 12th 2008 1:52AM
Well, I liked Hunter: The Reckoning, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance and NBA Jam... Hot Rod Show looks fun to me.
Raven @ Oct 12th 2008 11:07AM
Hard for me to buy games like this after...you know...mario kart...
Knoxximus @ Oct 12th 2008 12:15PM
FINALLY!! The closest thing we'll ever see to a 4-player RC Pro Am!!
You guys that are hating on this obviously were not around for RC Pro Am.
Wii-Lover @ Oct 20th 2008 4:26PM
I'm excited about this!
Sgt Monster @ Oct 13th 2008 12:32AM
Lil trucks go fast in dirt.
Lil trucks flip around and crash.
All to guitar rifts, and the sound of a Dixie horn.
I'm in.
Chris @ Oct 13th 2008 12:58AM
I'm wishing it had online multiplayer.
