TGS08: No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle trailer! [update 2]
Not even sure if we can hold it together long enough to write some intelligent commentary about this announcement. Marvelous said that they'd reveal a game from a charismatic game creator at this year's TGS; they've revealed the creator to be Suda 51, and the game to be a sequel to No More Heroes, the best Wii game ever.
Called No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle, the game once again stars Travis Touchdown, and once again takes place in Santa Destroy. We don't know much else -- in fact, we're only assuming it's another Wii game -- but we know it's GOTY 2009, unless it takes longer to develop, in which case it will be GOTY 2010. We would like to wish everyone else at TGS good luck trying to get us to pay attention to their announcements.
[Update 2: Marvelous's TGS press release (PDF) confirms that it's a Wii game. The best part? It's already scheduled for release in Europe (in February or March of 2010) and the US (January 2010).]
[Update: We'll leave it on Wii Fanboy for now, but "Desperate Struggle" sounds suspiciously like one of those clever subtitles given to DS games.]

My welcome indeed. =D
Wait what.
(you're*)
naisatoh @ Oct 8th 2008 10:46PM
YES!! I definitely was not expecting this, but I'm glad to see it. Hopefully, it's coming to the Wii.. I'm not sure how long we'll have to wait to find out for sure.
StLouisRibs7734 @ Oct 8th 2008 10:48PM
Never tried the first.
bearmedal @ Oct 9th 2008 10:17AM
Definitely give it a shot. If not buying, then renting. It's worth just for the style the games exudes.
Blue_Falcon @ Oct 8th 2008 10:48PM
Not much else to say other than FTMFW!
jpc168 @ Oct 8th 2008 10:51PM
hopefully it'll be for the wii. hard to tell from the trailer cuz its just a teaser cinematic. we know that suda wanted to work on a 360 game, but let's hope this stays on the wii. i love the first game
Van Faulk @ Oct 8th 2008 10:55PM
It might be both. Think about it. Desperate struggle for the DS, and NMH2 for the wii. Possibly with unlockable clothes and characters as connection bonuses....
cmdrpwn @ Oct 8th 2008 10:56PM
Assuming this is a Wii game, this is the best news for the console in months. In all honesty I was thoroughly unimpressed with Nintendo's little press reel.
NMH though, best damn game on the Wii (excepting Brawl, and also TP, which is a glorified GC port), and a damn great game in general. Its the only game in a long time that actually compelled me to replay it through the New Game + "Bitter", which is one serious challenge.
Whether this be on Wii or 360, this is going to kick some serious ass. I definitely want the multiple loose ends from the first game resolved. Bring it Henry.
Go1denchi1d @ Oct 8th 2008 10:58PM
I would assume they would be using the wii motion plus. so better lightsaber combos!!!

[/fanboymoment]
Sorry, that was my first thought whenever I saw the trailer.
As you can see, I am very excited.
Matthew @ Oct 8th 2008 11:11PM
I simply wet myself. I've been whining how disappointed I've been with Nintendo, this simply makes up for it all (granted it gets released in good fashion and no delays) Like I've said I've been waiting on Fatal Frame but that has taken an immediate backseat. If you haven't played No More Heroes maybe you should give me your Wii then so I can give it to my girlfriend because you clearly are not making good use of it. W000OT
Secre @ Oct 8th 2008 11:11PM
Best. Announcement. In. Months. Period.
I now have more games to look forward to for my Wii, and the system seems to be shaking off its "Kiddy" title even more with each passing month. If only more people would buy these games, we'd probably have much more in the way of awesome third party games than we do now.
Secre @ Oct 8th 2008 11:13PM
By the way, I think I just had a fanboygasm...
Sisyphus @ Oct 8th 2008 11:17PM
And here I thought it was raining.
Spiritpressure@gmail.com @ Oct 9th 2008 12:24AM
That's just how much I liked the first game. Besides, we need more rain here in my state.
CJLopez @ Oct 9th 2008 1:31AM
Sorry, my bad, i just can't stop this fanboygasm.........
Man, this bonner ain't gonna go for quite a while
Secre @ Oct 9th 2008 1:33AM
What the hell have I started xD?
ChromeAlchemist @ Oct 9th 2008 5:32AM
i think this entire website had a fanboygasm, OMG MAN....OMGWTFBBQYMCAFFSAMAZING
whew, the amount of effort they said they, put into the first game, this one should be amazing, but they have a lot to put up to in terms of bosses, presentation and mechanics though.
The only thing i can think of is a better overworld and refined fighting to keep it fresh. Assuming i know suda 51 (which i don't) he will probs still give half the bosses the ability to kill you in one hit, which was just lol in my opinion
Sisyphus @ Oct 8th 2008 11:12PM
I'm jittery with excitement!
ChrisCanberg @ Oct 13th 2008 3:11PM
I am SUPER excited. Like seriously the most excited I've been about a game trailer for a while. No More Heroes was a gem that shines through the third party shovelware out there.
I am highly positive that this game will be for the Wii. For one, the last game was a Wii-Exclusive. Secondly, the Wii-actions adds the games satire. To wack off in order to charge your beam katana? Like they'd take that out? Yeah, okay. hahah
But on a fanboy type note, OMGOMGOMGOMGOMG LOVE THIS ANNOUNCEMENT FOR REASONS UNEXPLAINABLE. =D
sn1per @ Oct 8th 2008 11:24PM
Well according to Wikipedia (I know, hardly a perfect source) Suda51 has said he'd be interested in making a sequel for the Wii, so I'm assuming that's what this is. Also, if the trailer is any indication (it probably isn't), the graphics have improved.
I really hope they add motionplus support to it, cause that would make me so happy.
Also, you guys are welcome.
jmf @ Oct 8th 2008 11:30PM
My trousers require cleaning after seeing this.
Paroxysm @ Oct 8th 2008 11:43PM
It'll be nice if he can make it without the bugs, graphical glitches and the shit overworld.
That said I'm a big Killer 7 fan.
Jason @ Oct 9th 2008 12:19AM
the shit overworld is the reason i was not satisfied with my purchase of the first game. after the first few bosses, i got so tired of the overworld i stopped playing it.
MidnightScott @ Oct 8th 2008 11:44PM
Most likely a Wii game. Why would Suda51 deny the fans of the first game a sequel on the system the original came out on? That would be stabbing us in the back...and also, I AM SO HAPPY ^.^
bug frawg @ Oct 9th 2008 2:34AM
While I do hope it's for wii, I don't see how releasing it on a different system instead is backstabbing behaviour.
leonus11 @ Oct 9th 2008 12:04AM
this is freaking awesome!! man the good news just doesn't stop!! my Wii is SO not gonna be collecting dust anymore!! yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yeeeeeessss!!!!
Thiago @ Oct 9th 2008 12:14AM
There is a No More Heroes spin off for cell phones in Japan. So, the next logical step (especially after the DS acronym) would be to bring the series to the DS. I don't think this is a Wii game.
Nick @ Oct 9th 2008 2:36AM
OMFG i cant wait I loved No More Heroes that game was like orgasmic
Thanatos @ Oct 9th 2008 12:50AM
I really hope this is for Wii. I absolutly LOVE the first one, On my third Play through right now going for 100%. I cant wait.
Please be for Wii. Please be for Wii. Please be for Wii. Please be for Wii.
Roto13 @ Oct 9th 2008 1:13AM
I never dared to dream that this would ever happen. I'm... I'm so happy....
;_;
hellhammer @ Oct 9th 2008 1:30AM
Agreed.
The Wii really needed this.
Also, to those saying stuff like
"Whether this be on Wii or 360, this is going to kick some serious ass."
I'll have to completely disagree. While the graphics would be improved on the 360, I'm absolutely not willing to loose the motion controlled katana beam.
Add WiiMotion Plus to the NMH mix and I've got myself a new 'top 5 of all time' contender.
CJLopez @ Oct 9th 2008 1:34AM
After seeing the ending of the game (the good one), man this was comming, but never tought it would be so soon
Still, i'm sure its 100% coming for Wii, no use for 360 if there wasn't the prequel, and also, come on, the ending confirms it.... unless Suda51 stick it to us all
CJLopez @ Oct 9th 2008 1:29AM
How can i express my jow..... I JUST CAN'T!
OMFGYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
CJLopez @ Oct 9th 2008 1:32AM

Okay.....this is beyond EFFING AWESOME IT'S awesome taken to the 51st level
LeChuck @ Oct 9th 2008 2:40AM
Notice how it shows NMH2, which then explodes and is replaced by No More Heroes: Desperate Struggle? Hmmm...
meist3r @ Oct 9th 2008 6:29AM
Hell yeah, finally some good news. This made my day :p
I would pre-order it NOW if I could.
Matthew @ Oct 9th 2008 6:41AM
NOOOOOOOOOOO MOOOOOOORRRRRREEE HEEERRRRRROOOOOEEEESSSSSS 222222222222222222222222OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO AHHHH =)
Seriously, there were is room for improvement but nothing that bothered me so much. I guess I disliked the idea od attempting a sandbox style game but the sandbox just didn't have enough sad? >.< lol, but as for boss acting and story telling and needless to say gameplay, FANTASTIC. What I got from the trailer was that it would be more fast paced and just pure adrenaline, but that's me and I'm losing my mind reading this post again.
Roddie @ Oct 9th 2008 6:51AM

Awesome! I hope it comes out for the Wii, but I'd take it on the DS. The first game was super fun.

Where can I pre-order?
BlackPeregrin @ Oct 9th 2008 8:41AM
... WANT!
No More Heroes was... or is... one of the greatest Wii games yet to come out.
It's game art was awesome, the battle system fun and inventive, doesn't overuse the Wii controls, but still puts them to use, the story line is original, the characters awesome, and it's a game you can play for a long time, even without following the story.
A sequel to this would be amazing. For Wii, I hope.
For DS, well, unfortunately, I think it might be ruined.
TheCoats @ Oct 9th 2008 11:19AM
i just poo'd a little and screamed in joyous excitement
weird - ive never had those too happen simotaneously before
Zealot @ Oct 9th 2008 12:15PM
Just dropping into this thread to say that, even as a Nintendo gamer whose primary system is the DS, I'm really relieved that Desperate Struggle is going to be for the Wii. Although I love the DS I understand its limits, and if Suda 51's sole outing on it (Flower, Sun, and Rain) is any indication, a lot of the visual personality he puts into games like NHM would be crippled by the N64-level graphics. Combine this with Grasshopper's inexperience with DS development (based on available screens, FS&R had some especially messy and polygonal 3D), and a No More Heroes DS could have been a disaster. Yes, beam katana battles and wrestling moves could have been interesting with the stylus, but it just wasn't worth the risk.
That said, as a No More Heroes fanboy, in lieu of smashing the keyboard with my hands to express the level of my excitement, I'll just say that I can't wait. In the next year before its release, I kind of wish that we would get a few more levels of the Giant Glastonbury shmup on WiiWare to tide us over.
CJLopez @ Oct 9th 2008 1:01PM
2010!!!!!!!!
OMFG!!!!!!
That like, a year and 4 months away!!!!!!
Man, hope the upcoming games keeps me busy till 2010, cuz i can't wait any longer for this game already!!!!!!!!
Thanatos @ Oct 9th 2008 1:48PM
So a little over a year? Man thats going to be hard to wait that long :( guess it gives me time to finish Okami, and Mario Galaxy, play through Killer7, and dont get me started on the PC games i have that are piling up.
limey @ Oct 9th 2008 2:00PM
okay, now Im sitting up straight, did Travis just wink at me? :)
Not to be greedy, but any chance of expanding the town of santa destroy, opening up the highways, etc...more sandbox.
MULTIPLAYER...you can do it
Okay greed aside, for now
