Spoil the first level of The Conduit for yourself
IGN has posted footage of the entire opening level of The Conduit, a generous fifteen minutes of action in which hero Mr. Ford takes down enemy marines, shoots up bipedal "Drudge" warriors, and charges down corridors. Then some more corridors. And then even more corridors. Seriously: there's a lot of corridors in this. A lot of conduits, even.
Navigating this entangled web of hallways (go past the break for the second half of the level) culminates in a showdown in front of the Lincoln Memorial, which the naughty Drudge have reportedly "defiled." Oo-er. Being really patriotic and everything, Mr. Ford isn't too pleased about this, and let's them know about it. It all looks very pretty and suitably packed with action. And corridors.

i'm really glad someone is making an original fps for the wii....but honestly, this game has generic written all over it
CJLopez @ Oct 3rd 2008 4:40PM
So tell me, in what way does
- Resistance 2
- Call of Duty: world at War
- Fracture 2
- Gears of War
- Halo 3
- Crysis Warhead
- FarCry2
- BioShock
doesn't have generic FPS written all over
Really, what were you expecting, since Quake 2, all FPS have been generic, not any giving us something that we can say "Oh, this one ain't generic"
Nigeria @ Oct 4th 2008 9:19AM
Lopez needs to play more games on systems that don't have the Nintendo logo. Take off your Nintendo fan-goggles once in a while, heh.
A couple of those games you mentioned haven't been released, and one - Fracture 2 - doesn't even exist, and there isn't gameplay footage like this to use as a comparison. So I can't see how you can speak so concretely.
I am by no means a FPS head - well, not any more - but to compare the vast, expansive ruins of Gears to the N64-style corridors of The Conduit is disingenuous. There is no comparison.
Gears, a game I'm absolutely sure I will abhor, is the pinnacle of the genre. While The Conduit is simply generic - generic in the most slutty way: sleeping around with many other games, then stealing their ideas in the dead of night; The Conduit celebrates his sluttiness and blandness with great joy, and insular fans rejoice with it.

i say...have you ever played a little game called half life 2...or portal....or prey...or condemned...or even metriod prime? hell even bioshock and farcry (which you mentioned) are pretty original compared to the conduit (they have the whole underwater utopia and deep jungle setting at least)
if you want to shoot braindead enemies in linear hallways and streets for 6 hours be my guest,
the only thing this game has going for it are wii controls, and honestly the controls don't even look that good...(kind of floaty, never really looking the direction you want) i think the wiimote needs an analog stick so wii can have dual analog plus IR pointing, or movement with the nunchucks gyro and look with the stick (these control schemes might be too complicated but it seems like there has to be better control scheme than this "bounding box" garbage)

Looks awesome, can't wait to play it. But the only thing that bothers me is that there doesn't seem to be any vertical scrolling.
CJLopez @ Oct 3rd 2008 4:30PM
Well, expect a lot of vertical scrolling, as you 'll have to battle flying enemies and giant enemies.
There is a boss battle where the enemie is hughe!!!!

why i like high voltage:
based purely on the fact that i asked for one, they sent me a gorgeous 'the conduit' t-shirt.
schwag on!
TheOverlord#2 @ Oct 3rd 2008 4:09PM
First, Got any pics of it?
Second, Get me one!!!!!!!!! :P
RobinEivets @ Oct 3rd 2008 8:05PM
Me too...it's too big for me though. :P
DarthKegX @ Oct 3rd 2008 3:55PM
The level design for this game has me a little concerned, everything l've seen so far looks like a one-way path filled with enemies. Hopefully the later levels are a little more open to exploration. Its a minor concern though, as a whole package this game looks freakin' incredible.
luis @ Oct 3rd 2008 5:59PM
lol the drudge probably drew a huge penis on Lincoln's face...anyways the game looks awesome!!
Anthony @ Oct 3rd 2008 7:06PM
Looks great, but I am hoping for more variety than corridors and street battles.
It would be cool if they have vehicles and especially a hot female voice - Cortana styleeee (!)
In my opinion, that male voice kinda drones on a bit. Cortana dialog was a perfect mixture of attitude, humor and sassyness.

That's awesome!
I wish I could get one...
Matisyahu Serious @ Oct 4th 2008 4:18PM
overlord - all i did was ask, go to high voltage's site and click on the 'fun and prizes' link.
and, while you waiting for it to arrive, take a look at some of their extremely low res release party pictures, there are babes o ' plenty.
intro94 @ Oct 4th 2008 12:59AM
Looks really good, promising. That engine alone proves the real power of the WII, unlike games like Red steel which treated the wii like a mere ps2.Of course i will get this one.
ik_never @ Oct 6th 2008 2:50AM
Its really looks like HL1, and sounds like HL1. And even shoots like HL1. Like a HL1 game mode.
Al3xand3r @ Oct 4th 2008 10:24AM
Actually, it looks like Half-Life 2 considering the detail of the level geometry, the dynamic lighting, the water physics, the depth of field effects (which I think Half-Life 2 lacks), the bump mapping, texture quality and most everything else about the engine. But yes, it shoots like Half-Life 1 because, you know, most every FPS shoots like that, and especially Half-Life 2 had barely any change in feel, but nobody complained.
If you wanted to have an actual case, you could have said it looks like Half-Life 2 and consider Half-Life 2 bad (graphics have advanced since then on the PC, though it still looks great anyway) since by saying it looks like Half-Life 1 you make your trolling too obvious, troll.

Ok, i'll agree it somehere in between in graphics, that actually does not important to me anyway. I still like q1 and dn3d feel and look.
I just meant that explosions FX, SFX, speech, color scheme, level design are really simular to hl1, much more that hl1. Game does too little to get uniqie look, and maybe its good. And that alien gun performing too simular to tau cannon. I understand that HL became a standard, and all i said was just my opinion.

This crap does indeed look generic. Hell, High voltage has done anything fresh and original in quite some time....
Ethan @ Oct 5th 2008 8:24AM
They defiled it! Quick, blow up the vaginas they made in the walls!
Zia @ Oct 6th 2008 10:16PM
The game looks great for a Wii game, even if it is a bit generic. But the ASE mixes things up a bit, and adds a puzzle factor to the game. I really think the demonstration was on easy mode, and if there isn't a harder difficulty level then this game might be too easy.
iknone @ Oct 22nd 2008 6:07AM
eh, system duplicated my first message... Sorry.. One more try.

were u able 2 see? I could not see anything!
leonus11 @ Oct 6th 2008 11:12PM
CRAP? how bout your face looks like crap. whether or not its generic doesn't excuse it from being a great game. but i'm sure if it was being developed for the 360 as an exclusive you'd be all over it! and don't denie it either, cuz you and i both know you'd be all over it if it was a 360 exclusive!
Mike @ Oct 7th 2008 10:34PM
The 360 is flooded with so many great FPS games that practically no one would even notice this game. The few people that don't ignore its existence would be making fun of it for being so unremarkable and generic.
leonus11 @ Oct 8th 2008 2:12AM
@ Mike
HAAAA!! doubtful! this game will get noticed wether its generic or not. eventually all games get noticed. thing is that not all games are great but it still doesn't stp them for being noticed.
