Pikmin leads off Wii collection of Gamecube masterpieces
Nintendo announced that Pikmin and other GameCube classics will be remade for the Wii as "Wii de Asobu" (Play on Wii) Selections. There's no word on which other games will be included, or if these are in fact remakes with Wii Remote integration or just simple rereleases to take advantage of the increased Wii audience. You guys had better hope this isn't the Pikmin that Miyamoto was referring to. Wouldn't it be hilarious if when he said "We're making Pikmin" he meant "we're making a new box for Pikmin"? Maybe "hilarious" isn't the right word.

XD
Not a bad idea though, there are many new gamers who never got to play it.
Sonic_13 @ Oct 2nd 2008 1:49AM
Cool idea. I wonder how much they will be. Hopefully cheap.
Didn't Miyamoto specifically say "Pikmin 3". Plus he said "we're making Pikmin 3". Therefore they should be two different games.
MowDownJoe @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:13AM
No... he just said "We're making Pikmin." Cryptic one, he is.
TWOO DEE @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:15AM
YESSSSS UNGHHH
sorry, but this just saved me a trip to gamestop i had planned on making to pick up a used copy
god, those employees are fucking assholes
Brent @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:39AM
I had heard rumblings over a year ago of a metroid trilogy re-relase with wii controls. Def worth a pickup I think.
Metayoshi @ Oct 2nd 2008 2:49AM
*crosses fingers for Metroid Prime 1 with Wii-mote controls*
Drahken @ Oct 3rd 2008 11:56AM
Ninty has heard your plea and deemed it worthy. You shall have your Wiimote Prime 1 and 2.
Jace @ Oct 2nd 2008 4:19AM
That would explain why they didn't make any kind of big deal about it. The only quote I have been able to find anywhere is just "We're making Pikmin," which I imagine might be something that could be easily misinterpreted in translation. Perhaps he just said "we're porting Pikmin" or "we're bringing Pikmin to the Wii," neither of which statements confirms Pikmin 3 at all.
time @ Oct 2nd 2008 6:48AM
This is definitely all the Pikmin we're getting on the Wii for now. He only said "we're making Pikmin", and this is Pikmin, so his promise was kept.
Sisyphus @ Oct 2nd 2008 7:08AM
Are these going to use the GC controller and memory card? Or can I use something this gen for a change?
Hamster @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:06AM
Err, aren't last-gen ports the last thing they should be encouraging?
johnathan @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:11AM
I love this Idea but if I can go buy pikmin at gamestop for $25 used and nintendo sells this for $50 then which do you think I am going to do. they better sell them for $20.
ejamer @ Oct 2nd 2008 10:19AM
Rumor is that the ported games will cost $35 new. That's not cheap, but probably reasonable if the ports have solid Wii controls.
Both Metroid Prime and Pikmin would benefit greatly from pointer-based controls instead of being forced to use GameCube controllers. Also, if the difference is only $10 then I'd rather buy a new, easy to find game than search for a used copy in questionable condition.
KaBob799 @ Oct 2nd 2008 9:16AM
Why would he be so mysterious about Pikmin if this is all it was, they had plenty of other things they could have mentioned instead.
Maybe they will include the remake with Pikmin 3, or as a pre-order bonus like they did with Windwaker.
igorponweed @ Oct 2nd 2008 9:28AM
I want to see SUPEEEEER MARIIIIIIOOO SUUNSHIIIIIINE!
Chris @ Oct 2nd 2008 10:46AM
This is good new, with more details it could be GREAT!
I didn't own a GameCube so there are a lot of games that I won't. I was going to pick them up used, but I don't like having to use a GameCube Controller and Memory Stick! So, at this point I haven't picked up any old games. If they release this "Classics" line and make it playable with the Wiimote and Nunchuk and save on the Flash Drive then we are in business. I don't even care if they update the controls, in fact I wish they would sell the exact same game just fully playable on the Wii for around $15-$20 bucks. I will NOT pay more than $20 for 3+ year old games!
What I would really like to see is downloading them from the WiiShop channel, but of course we would need a Nintendo Harddrive to pull that off!
Another cool idea would be to release "volumes" of games. Something like "Play On Wii Volume 1" that includes "Pikmin", "Super Mario Sunshine", and "F-Zero". And "Play On Wii Volume 2" with "Metroid Prime", "Wind Waker" and "Smash Bros." And of course, you could go on and on........but I would buy that! neo
Nate @ Oct 2nd 2008 12:56PM
For the volumes, do you mean having all the games on one Wii disc?
zchry @ Oct 2nd 2008 7:12PM
Oh please please please have Wind Waker! One with MotionPlus!
I've never actually played Wind Waker. Is that bad?
Drahken @ Oct 3rd 2008 12:00PM
YES, that is bad. Wind Waker is the singular best Zelda game. Of course, I'm also in the small minority who feel that OoT isn't as good as people hype it up to be. It's by no means a bad game. Certainly one of the best out there. Just not as good as WW or, in my opinion, MM. But then the Majora-ty wil; tell you otherwise.
zchry @ Oct 4th 2008 11:07AM
Hmm. I've always thought that OoT was the best, even when I was young and didn't really know any of the hype. I think it certainly lives up to that hype, though.
Although I do think that MM is very near OoT in terms of quality, and Link's Awakening was my first and favorite. (Because it's my favorite doesn't mean it's the best overall, though. There's loads of nostalgia involved there.)
I've often considered buying a GameCube controller at Target or whatever, but I can never find Wind Waker in stores, so I didn't bother.
Md @ Oct 2nd 2008 7:18PM
GASP!
What if they remade Pikmin 2 with full story co-op?!?!
That is a pretty big stretch though.
*Sigh* One can only imagine....
Genome4824 @ Oct 2nd 2008 8:50PM
Also, my idea
WIND WAKER,WIND WAKER,WIND WAKER,WIND WAKER,WIND WAKER,WIND WAKER
also Master Quest OMFG Master Quest! PLEASEEE
Graxer @ Oct 3rd 2008 9:26AM
Sounds like a good idea. I'd very likely buy Super Mario Sunshine and Wind Waker if they were released with Wii controls. I can see all the Donkey Konga games being re-released too using the WiiMote and Nunchuck as drumsticks and probably Super Monkey Ball (although im fed-up with that series now).
naganoodle @ Oct 5th 2008 10:26AM
sounds cool! but i already have pikmin! hopefully they'll do it with pikmin 2 so i can play it without having to pay $50+ for a used copy!
dotbatman @ Oct 14th 2008 6:30PM
Please, oh, please, bring play on Wii to the US!
