New Final Fantasy lets DS and Wii gamers play at the same time
Fans of Square Enix and their Final Fantasy line of games are in for a treat. The company revealed in the latest issue of Shonen Jump magazine that it's developing a new installment in its Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles series of games. Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: Echoes of Time is a game that will release on the DS and Wii on January 29th. Also, it will allow DS gamers and Wii gamers to play together online. How neat is that?
Nothing in the way of exact functionality is explained, other than the prospect of transferring your Mii from the Wii version of the game to the DS title (and the previously mentioned co-op). We'll provide more information as it's made available.

I'm not looking forward to this one at all. There's something about 8-year olds saving the world that I just find really lame.
Hopefully we'll have proper main characters this time.

Yeah, it was the implication that Final Fantasy had to be given a more watered-down, kid-friendly, chibified varnish to appeal to Gamecube owners that kept me from playing the first FFCC...even more so than the emphasis on multiplayer and GBA connectivity. It just felt so condescending on Square-Enix's part. Because a lot of people seem to like the CC series on the merits of its gameplay I'm not completely closed to trying it, but I'm going to need some convincing.

Mii on DS games? That's interesting and new.

Yeah, of the couple article I read before this (Game|Life and semi-reading of the NintendoWiiFanboy feed), this is the first I picked up of "Mii -> NDS". Guess there's no reason to feel left out! If this is a direct sequel to Ring Of Fates, then I'd like to get the DS version, but... what ever happened to "The Crystal Bearers"? That's been on SE's Japanese FF page for how long now?

hmm, better than ring of fates? maybe.
The Crystal Chronicles franchise has never proved itself to be all that great, imo.

This is the one that had that awesome trailer with the kid flying Harry Potter-style, right?

I haven't bought Ring of Fates because I don't think it can measure up to the original Crystal Chronicles.

well now we know why S-E copy righted (or whatever the term is) "Echoes of Time", it was for this game! I'm a little disappointed that it has nothing to do with CT =(
I wish that S-E gave the nintendo DS a traditional FF experience (i liked the remakes, but I want an original FF). I like FF:CC, but I'm more of fan of the traditional RPG experience.
