The Force Unleashed sells 1.5 million copies in its first week
It looks like we should've taken those book sales as an indication of how hungry Star Wars fans were for something new. The latest game to bear the Star Wars name, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, has managed to sell a whopping 1.5 million copies in its first 5 days on shelves. The Force is strong with ... uh, yeah. Sorry.
Darrell Rodriguez, president of LucasArts, didn't expect such high numbers, apparently. "We're blown away by the response to the game." So, how many of you picked up the game? Did it blow you away or have you found it to be sub-par?

Wow, it does great sales & suddenly WiiFanboy wakes up & remembers it.

We've been covering the game as best we could, but when most of the media out there on the net for it is from the PS3/Xbox 360 versions, well ... you get the idea.

@Don: I totally agree. Day of release and they were like "oh megaman 9 is coming boys!" and it was like wtf force unleashed, hello? is it any good?

I played it twice through already and I loved it...
on my Xbox. its a graphical game, not a controller game.
DaisukeKiriyama @ Sep 24th 2008 7:22PM
My brother picked it up one night, and I started playing it.
It's a really good game, but I wish they had an alternate control scheme since the waggling gets a bit tedious at times.

I pre-ordered it. The game is amazing. The graphics on the Wii version are terrible (IMO), and the camera angles can get annoying sometimes, but the gameplay more than makes up for it.
Duel mode is really fun too, even for people who don't know all the controls and combos.

I've purchased and already completed the game. It's essentially NMH less the 'open world' and in that regard, Force Unleashed was really rather sub-par in comparison. The controls were spot-on but the overall presentation was SEVERELY lacking (and people gave Grasshopper flack?!) and not being a SW 'fanboy,' the story was only mildly interesting to me.

It was too short, and from what I've seen the Wii verison leaves out the Light Side/Dark Side system, forcing you to follow the Light (and canonical) storyline
Wraith242 @ Sep 24th 2008 7:41PM
Ya its sweet but a bit on the short side but definetly worth the money!!

I thought the game graphics were fine, but the cutscene graphics were unforgivable. Gameplay was tons and tons of fun as long as the camera didn't get in the way. Story was excellent, helped by some above-average voice-acting.
I also thought the game was far too short. It ended just as I was really getting into it. I think I beat it in under 8 hours, and I'm not even that good of a gamer.
Overall I'm happy I bought it. As I said, the gameplay was a lot of fun, and I also really liked the story. But it was over much too soon and it had obvious flaws in the camera system and cutscene graphics.
il_duce620 @ Sep 24th 2008 7:58PM
I rented it over the weekend...completed it in 7 hrs... The graphics were subpar and the camera was pretty annoying (but never led to my death).
Personally, I thought the game was surprisingly fun and had a pretty good story. It was pretty short and I didn't see much re-play value, so I'm glad I rented it instead of buying it. Glad it did well! Hope they make another one!

Man, one of the best games I had played in a while
Yeah, graphics wise, can't be compared with their HD counterparts, but then again, Wii is all about gameplay, and really, i was pretty awesome doing all the stuff, though a configuration scheme for classic control wouldn't had hurt as my wrist hurted after completing the whole game (4 hours, 25 minutes)
I hadn't had the chance to try duel mode, as i'm going through my second run, getting all the things I missed, but man, this is a pretty good game!!!
Evil Bastard @ Sep 24th 2008 8:38PM
I played the demo on the XBOX360 and wasn't impressed with the button mashing of the boss battle. Haven't tried the Wii version yet, probably will wait til I can get it on the cheep.

Love this game!
Sure the graphics and sounds arent as great as the X360 or PS3 but I dont care, the gameplay is incredible. I'm having lots of fun with it but I still have two complains:
1- camera movements arent always good and actually got on my nerves a couple of times. The character gets stuck behind something and you dont see anything... pretty annoying.
2- too short. They levels should have been at least twice as big and have more "missions".
FALCONPUNCH! @ Sep 24th 2008 10:22PM
I'd say the story is only so-so, but usable. It didn't seem to flow very well at first, but it's getting better. The graphics are horrible though.
The controls work perfectly however! The more powers that are unlocked the better it gets. Force choking those giant junk beasts was extremely fun. Using the force push on things just hasn't gotten old for me. Things like this and how they did the energy lasso in Prime 3 are how controls should be done. I love how the lightsaber sound comes out of the speaker on the wiimote. With each slash you hear the wirrr of the weapon. I'd say it's gameplay elements work excellently.
Overall just a solid game.

I got it for the Wii and it was one of the most underwhelming gaming experiences I've ever had.
I would say my grandma could play threw it because of it being so damn easy... but do to the waggling for 7 hours straight she wouldn't able to do it with her arthritis.
Graphics were half assed, story was watered down from the other games. Sorry for ranting but it just wasn't good.
JKAntwon @ Sep 25th 2008 9:01AM
It was sold out when I looked for it.
Alex @ Sep 25th 2008 2:06PM
I really liked it... Bought it and I am glad I did. It was pretty quick to beat, but the story was fun and the ability to use the force with the nunchuck sold it for me. I have been waggling my left hand around at work wishing I could forse push some stuff! The combos and duel mode provide a bit of replay value. I do think the camera was terrible and they should have had more worlds to visit, you keep going back to the same planets over and over. I'd say its a solid B-
RobinEivets @ Sep 29th 2008 9:13AM
It was a great, short game. Probally going to send it back to Gamestop considering it has a minimal replay value...
