Mega Man 9 doesn't support GameCube controllers after all

This is especially bad news for people who ordered RetroPorts specifically for Mega Man, or who expected to use the Hori GameCube pad. Please don't let it stop you from buying Mega Man 9.

Capcom probably just want to charge us for Gamecube controller support DLC.
David @ Sep 24th 2008 9:12AM
Didn't notice. My wiimote/classic worked great. Got like 10 gameovers and beat one stage o_0.
CJLopez @ Sep 24th 2008 11:43AM
Only 10???
Ha, you noob, i got 60 continues before beating galaxy man, and then another 70 before magma man, who i wasn't able to defeat
See, i'm a pro!!!!!

Yah, having grown up playing the original NES versions, the milliseconds of lag due to the wireless killed me over and over again. Not to mention the batteries in the damned wiimote died on my billionth attempt just as i was about to reach the boss on my first level, sending me hurling towards some instant death spikes. My only hope is that someone ports this game over to an actual NES rom.

Doesn't the WiiShop screen show it supports GC controllers? Bummer. I'll be ok with the remote and classic controller, but if they are going to advertise the support it should work.
Roto13 @ Sep 24th 2008 1:04PM
Nope. Only shows the Wiimote and Classic Controllers.
ButtersParker @ Sep 24th 2008 1:35PM
Yes, it does show Gamecube controller
8-bit.artist @ Sep 24th 2008 2:30PM
they might have changed it, but when i downloaded it at noon time (est) the GC controller WAS SHOWN for support.
Roto13 @ Sep 24th 2008 4:34PM
Well it's not there now.
vidGuy @ Sep 24th 2008 9:26PM
Yeah, I downloaded the game about an hour after it came online and it had the GC logo in the info section. Interesting that they removed it...
Sonic_13 @ Sep 24th 2008 12:06PM
Honestly, I'm kind of glad about this. I really don't like it when developers add Gamecube controller support to Wii games.
Roto13 @ Sep 24th 2008 1:05PM
Uh, why? What's wrong with having more controller options?
Smoke @ Sep 24th 2008 2:03PM
Nothing too deal-breaking for me(Still waiting for that PAL release) Would have been nice to use my Hori Digital again though.
And in a way I'm glad because I remember the last time we had to play classic Megaman(Not X) games with a Gamecube controller...
fatcatfan @ Sep 24th 2008 2:32PM
I'd also rather use the wiimote d-pad than a gamecube controller, it's the option to use a RetroPort adapter with an original NES pad that interested me - enough so that I ordered a RetroPort a few weeks ago in anticipation.
I filed a message with Capcom Support and they are "looking into it." Dunno if that means they'll patch the Wiiware version, but that'd be great.
On the upside, I suppose now I can play the Gamecube Mega Man collection with NES pad, even if I can't play 9 with it yet.
Roddie @ Sep 24th 2008 4:52PM
Except that the buttons are the wrong way round in MMAC...
fatcatfan @ Sep 24th 2008 5:18PM
Oh? Bummer. Hadn't tried it yet. Maybe I could hack a switch into the RetroPort to swap the wiring of the buttons. Shame to have to mess with it though.
milan @ Sep 24th 2008 2:46PM
very lame and rather confusing
Abscissa @ Sep 24th 2008 11:41PM
On one hand, the GC's DPad is complete shit, so I'm tempted to say "who cares?" But on the other hand, I have a PSX->GC/XBox/PC controller adaptor, and I like Sony's DPads a lot. Plus, there are other controllers (like retro-designed ones, and arcade sticks) that are designed to plug into the GC controller port. So I'm gonna have to say: This is really fucking lame. In fact, almost as lame as not being able to buy things from the Wii shop for the exact actual price or sell things into a secondary market.
GumbyX84 @ Sep 27th 2008 12:05AM
To be honest, I like the MM6 boxart. MM6 was the first Megaman game I ever beat with cheating. I have fond memories of playing that every weekend with my friend Brian. We would speedrun it without knowing what speedrunning was. :)
GumbyX84 @ Sep 27th 2008 12:08AM
Sory guys. wrong thread... Ga its too late to do this....
On Topic: I am kinda pissed that GC controllers don't work. I am planning on getting a SNES- and NES-to-GC adapter for retrogaming with VC. MM9 would have been great to play with a classic NES controller. : sighs: I can only hope they patch it
