Full Mega Man 9 DLC revealed
Here in the Wii Fanboy dungeons, we've been squeezing bouts of Mega Man 9 in between blogging today, and have already made an exciting discovery in the game's manual (note: you can browse this without even purchasing the title): an apparently complete list of downloadable content.
According to this, five pieces of DLC will become available in the near future, including a Hero (ultra hard) and Superhero (so hard you'll cry) mode, a new Time Attack stage, the chance to play as Proto Man, and the utterly hardcore-sounding "Endless Attack," which is essentially a stage without end. These range from 100 to 300 Wii Points apiece, and you can check up on prices and release dates after the jump.

- Hero Mode, October 20, 100 Wii Points: "Play the game with a more difficult level of enemy distribution. Not compatible with Rankings or Challenges."

They should have kept this one really oldschool and included all this in for of a plain white-text-on-black-background option menu, and all for free of course.
Was this really Naka's vision of the "new old" Mega Man game? Paying for features that basically every 8bit game offered for free (this includes score attack and time modes, think of Hudson's Caravan games for example)?
Paying for a higher diffuclty level (as in: adding more enemies and moving Metools and Joes to places were evading their attacks becomes harder) seems outrageous.

Oh boy, Keiji Inafune, not Naka (I just read about the planed Penguin game before reading about the Mega Man 9 DLC)

facepalm
Make a retro game, make it a retro game. And in case you've forgotten, you unlocked things in retro games

Unlocking=No $$$

Hmmm... I hate it when DLC is completely planned out. It sounds like it's all ready and they just want you to pay more. DLC should be utilized so they can CREATE more content later on. Plus, this seems rather limited. Don't get me wrong, it sounds like some nice stuff, but... I dunno, in a few weeks we may have all the content?
vidGuy @ Sep 22nd 2008 2:47PM
I won't be getting any of this, but I am already enjoying my first WiiWare title all retro-like. It's only my second MegaMan game, too.

How about the Mega Buster? I hate not being able to charge.
Roto13 @ Sep 22nd 2008 3:45PM
That's what Proto Man is for.
TJ @ Sep 22nd 2008 4:10PM
this is an omage to MM2, there was no buster back then
Roto13 @ Sep 22nd 2008 5:13PM
But apparently there was DLC. :P
LeChuck @ Sep 22nd 2008 4:12PM
On the one hand it does seem like they're nickle-and-diming you by charging for difficulty modes and time attack. On the other hand it's $18 total for everything so what's to complain about? Maybe for something less worthy but $10 - 18 for a new Mega Man game is fine by me. I'd get ProtoMan and Special Stage for the new boss but probably wouldn't get the others as I'm sure I'll suck enough on regular difficulty.
Dopple Boppler @ Sep 22nd 2008 5:05PM
I'll probably get Proto Man, as sliding and charging would make this game play a hell of a lot differently, so two bucks for that seems fine, but the others, not so much. I mean really, I have to pay for a hard mode? 9's already in the upper tier of Mega Man games in terms of difficulty as is, and I'm not quite that masochistic.
I do love this game, though; they did a really great job with it.
Bluestreak2 @ Sep 22nd 2008 5:22PM
Kinda disappointing that they plan to turn a wonderful $10 game into a, if you want all the extra content it's a $20 game.
Drahken @ Sep 22nd 2008 8:24PM
Why in gods name would you need to download an even HARDER difficulty? The regular mode is friggin hard enough as it is. It looks like Wily finally did it himself, like in the following: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpP_BKPa5Oc
8-bit.artist @ Sep 22nd 2008 9:50PM
ill shell out the $2 for proto man most likely, but after that, no more DLC for me with this game. the challenges are already extremely hard. "beat the game without taking damage" YEAH OK.
Drahken @ Sep 22nd 2008 11:04PM
Yeah, tell me about it. Beating the game without continuing is ludicrous enough, much less without dying, much LESS without taking damage. Just beating the game period is breaking my balls and all of these challenges are just taunting me to my face. Some of them (most notably the aforementioned damage one) may as well just be "shut off the game, step outside and jump to moon".

Fuck this noise. I can't buy Mega Man 9 if it has dumb ass DLC like this. I didn't think Capcom would stoop this low.
