Wii Warm Up: Mega Marathon

Are you replaying old Mega Man games now? If so, which? 1 through 6? Through 8? Through & Bass? Or are you exploring the extended series with the X games, Command Mission, the Battle Networks, the Star Forces, the ZXes, the Legends, Misadventures of Tron Bonne, etc.?

Just playing through the 1-6 series here. Played them as a younger monkey and this reminds me of just how hard these games are. Yeah, everyone says it...but we all know it's true.

I've really only played the X series. They are some of my favorite games, dontcha know.

I played through 1-8 last year, and right now I'm playing through Mega Man & Bass for the first time. I'm in the last area now, but it's frustrating because after a game over you have to go back to the first level of it (as is the norm in Mega Man games, but it seems a tad more unforgiving on a handheld).

I just beat Mega Man 1, now I'm in Wily's castle in Mega Man 2. That lousy Dragon...

Megaman 1-9, x1-x6, and bass, zero 1-3
I BEAT ALL OF EM!

I recently bought Megaman Anniversary Collection for PS2. I'm at Willy in Megaman 1 and plan on going through Megaman 1 to 8. Long live Megaman.
Sisyphus @ Sep 13th 2008 1:12PM
I've still never played a Megaman game. /shrug

I play through the NES games in Mega Man Anniversary Collection about once a year. I actually have a tattoo of Mega Man on my arm. Yeah, I'm a fan. :P
Lanceh @ Sep 13th 2008 1:17PM
Haha, you mentioned Misadventures of Tron Bonne. Is it bad that I loved that game?
I've been playing MM 1 and 2. Mainly because they're the ones on the Wii Shop.
JC Fletcher @ Sep 13th 2008 1:21PM
Not at all!! I love Tron Bonne.
CJLopez @ Sep 13th 2008 2:02PM
Already finished a couple of weeks ago 1 though 8 and megaman & bass
thesoiden @ Sep 13th 2008 2:05PM
Maybe I'll play Megaman 8, which I haven't played... ever.
And also Megaman & Bass, though I've play it, I haven't finished it.

I marathon annually, and have done so since 8th grade, during winter vacation. Since my family's Jewish, most of the holiday stuff is already done by christmas time (USUALLY, DARN ROTATING HEBREW CALENDAR). I was about to make exception this year when my brother reminded me I can just marathon 1-9 during winter vacation this year.

I was never, ever any good at the original NES games. I'm currently playing Mega Man and I can't help but wonder why I'm bothering. I had a lot of fun with MM2 and MM3 when they were new and I'm definitely looking forward to MM9.
However, the Mega Man X series was definitely more my style and I've been replaying those as well. Wall-climbing, charged shots from the beginning of the series, dashing, air-dashing, double... air... dashing... (ok, that was a bit of a stretch for originality) all made these games a lot more fun for me. Certainly easier than the original MM if nothing else.
While I'm at it, I'd like to personally claim Mega Man X2 as the pinnacle of the X series. Sure, playing as Zero was a lot of fun afterward, but fighting Zero in MMX2 is up there with the best gaming moments I've ever had. Not even Guitar Hero cramps up my hand nearly as bad as that battle.

I played them all again back when the anniversary collection came out, but unfortunately at the moment I have only my 360 and not my Wii available (in addition, I've been replaying Fallout 2 to get ready for Fallout 3, and that one game takes more time than those 8).
This also makes me question which console I should buy it on... the Wii was the easy choice before, but I don't want to wait a few months to play it, so it's gonna have to be the 360.

I played through the entire anniversary collection a few months ago. For most of them it was the first time I had actually beaten them. I tried to add Megaman and Bass in there as well but gave up because, holy crap, the lack of energy tanks makes that game HARD! I beat the initial level, and then that snow/ice/cold boss, but now I'm completely stuck on the rest of the currently-reachable bosses.
After that, I was going to going back and replay Network Transmission, but haven't really gotten around to it. Same thing with trying to go through the X-collection (X1-X6).
I also *tried* the Battle Network, Battle Chip Challenge,, StarForce, Z, and ZX serieses, as well as X7 and X8 but abandoned them pretty quickly because they were all fairly disappointing (Z, ZX, and X8 were lesser dissapointments than the others though. The others were really bad.)
One of these days I'll have to go back and actually finish Legends (You know, it took me three attempts at that game before I actually stopped hating it. I kind like it now though. Except for all the story stuff though.)
I'd like to try Powered Up, but I have no plans to get a PSP.

I've been playing Mega Man 2 and rewatching David Hinkle's Mega Man 1 Death Compilation for VC Monday Madness, instead of watching myself die repeatedly.
DaisukeKiriyama @ Sep 13th 2008 6:48PM
I've been playing through Zero 1-4, just got the PC version of MegaMan Legends, still looking for the PC version of MML2, looking for a working copy of The Misadventures of Tron Bonne, playing MM & Bass for the GBA, and I think that should be it.
Bryan @ Sep 13th 2008 8:13PM
Downloaded Mega Man 1 on the VC and finally got to the Dr. Wily level. I hope to beat this before MM9!
dagguis @ Sep 13th 2008 10:32PM
MegaMan soccer FTW

Anniversary Collection. I got it for GC like the same time I became a hardcore Nintendo gamer, so I started replaying it the day I found it again which happened to be the first time I tried looking for it which happened to be the day I first heard of Megaman 9.
I suck at them though. WAY TOO HARD.
And I went on a huge trip a few weeks ago and I grapped GBA port of Megaman and Bass. I love that one.
But I had brought with the DS Lite and its pathetic non-GB compatability, so I had to leave GB Megaman Revenge of Dr. Wily at home. :P
Which is a shortened Megaman 3 anyways, right?
Yeah. I got it from my cousin.

I just got a used copy of the anniverary collection for the xbox to catch up on my 360. Now don't get your panties in a bunch, I'm a die hard Ninty fan and am getting Mega 9 on the only system that was supposed to have it: Wii.
I went through 1-6, not remembering the games being as frickin' hard as they were. But extremely enjoyable. I wanted to continue on to 7 and 8 but I started nitpicking.
In 7 I feel Mega moves too slow, he takes up too much of the screen, and (I do not know if this is specific to the Xbox version or not) there was a much more slow down in segments then a NES game.
In 8 I had some of the same feelings I had with 7. He moves too slow, too big of a sprite. But what I realized in conclusion to this was, they took out what made Mega Man, well, Mega Man. Since everything is bigger and slowed down, the precision jumping and enemy killing its either none existant or incredibly frustrating.
With that note, I am extremely looking forward to 9.

I played through 1 and 2 again (on the GC Anniversary Collection), but I think that's about all I'll have time for before it comes out. The only one I haven't beaten before is 8, so I guess I'll have to save that for later. :)

I've been playing Megaman games like crazy leading up to Megaman 9's release. I played 1-8 on Anniversary Collection, X1-X5 on X Collection and I went out and bought a copy of ZX a week ago which I'm currently playing.
