Amazon opens WiiSpeak preorders
WiiSpeak isn't the kind of thing we can imagine selling in Wii Fit quantities, but it's getting hard to tell nowadays. Maybe the microphone add-on and Animal Crossing: City Folk will be overshadowed by the other big first-party release of November, and supplies will be plentiful, but why take the risk? You can now preorder your own WiiSpeak at Amazon, and rest assured that you'll be able to bitch behind Nook's back with your Wii Friends from day one. Hang around now, and you may be confined to the keyboard.

On the same page I saw that they are also taking preorders for Wii Music!
lonesomefolly @ Sep 10th 2008 3:49PM
isn't this coming bundled with animal crossing?
Mr Khan @ Sep 10th 2008 3:54PM
I could see casual gamers going for the bundle, since the kind of casual gamer attracted to AC isn't the same kind that's attracted to Wii Music
However, i equally don't see AC pushing those kind of numbers. Numbers similar to Mario Kart, probably, but not WiiFit/Brawl numbers

Has there been any official indication that users can use Wii speak outside of a game, like with the 360? If so that would require a software update.
Can anyone confirm the non-game use, yay or nay?

I'm wondering the same thing. Because if I could use this to play Mario Kart or SSBB with other friends, that would make it worth buying. Otherwise, I'm not sure I'd have a use for it.

"You can now preorder your own WiiSpeak at Amazon for the price of free"
This is a little bit misleading, because when you go to the linked website, it's there for $29.99 by itself.
Garu @ Sep 10th 2008 4:26PM
Maybe Chris intended to say the shipping was free?

The way that was supposed to come across was: it costs nothing to place a preorder and secure yourself a WiiSpeak. Sorry for the confusion. ;)

quite interesting, yet this speak seems for the "hardcore" users, so i dont think it will do well
