Unfortunately-named new WiiWare puzzler announced
Studio Walljump has announced Liight, a new WiiWare puzzle game based on casting same-colored light on puzzle pieces to create music. The concept sounds pretty cool: you position beams of colored light such that they cast right on all the pieces of that color on the board. Every piece adds elements to the soundtrack (which is available as MP3s on the website).
In order to pull this off, you have to combine colors and cast shadows over the game's 100 puzzles. It also includes a level editor and the ability to host speed contests. It actually sounds pretty cool! Except for the name. People could probably have figured out that it's a Wii game without the Wii pun in the title.

This sounds cool. I'd probably buy at $10 or less. The name made me think of Lights Out - now that would be a cool WiiWare game.

Pronounced like "1337"?

From the Site:
"For the record, you can pronounce it anyway you want. I just say it like "light", but I think "leet" is ok, too."
Metayoshi @ Sep 6th 2008 2:57AM
That's what I was thinking, actually. Wii is pronounced "we" so "lii" should be pronounced "Lee". Unfortunately-named indeed.
Sonic_13 @ Sep 5th 2008 9:48PM
Indeed. Just because something has an "i" in it does not mean that it should be doubled because there are two i's in Wii.
There name would therefore be pronounced "leet" and not "light" as they are probably intending.

So how do you pronounce this game exactly ... li ight?

Check out the "News" section of the Studio Walljump website. There is a fun story about the designer's son, Link.

Haha! I thought you were all crazy until I read the article again, very carefully. I didn't even see the second "i".

Such an unfortunate tiitle.

Perhaps they'll fix the name before release. The game sounds like an interesting concept.

Hey guys, Nick from Studio Walljump here.
lol @ the comments regarding the name! If you take a look at the logo (you can find it on www.studiowalljump.com if you haven't seen it yet), I feel like its a little more justified, with the mixing of the light from the two 'i's sort of encapsulating the core gameplay mechanic.... something I can't do with only one i!!!! So there!
But yeah... I hear your collective groans. Not much chance it'll change tho, its too far out the gate now. Besides its not thaaaat cheesy... is it?
Sisyphus @ Sep 6th 2008 11:14PM
I like the logo and the concept. I'll have to keep an eye open for the future.

File it under 'good-natured ribbing!'
