Rumor: GTA Wii project in the works
With recent details dropping about the DS game, GTA: Chinatown Wars, the relationship between Take-Two and Rockstar with Nintendo was on the mind of the press. Take-Two CEO, Ben Feder, addressed the idea of Rockstar and its publisher bringing something to the Wii, namely its big franchise, Grand Theft Auto.
"Without commenting on whether GTA is coming to the Wii or not, Nintendo and Take-Two work very well together; Nintendo and Rockstar work well together, and we are continuing to grow that relationship," said Feder. He also commented that the relationship is not "one-way." He wants everyone to know that GTA: Chinatown Wars "is not even the first step, but an important step, in continuing to develop that relationship."
So, the substance to back this rumor is kind of light. Feder addressed the idea, but not really. When you think about it, though, Take-Two and Rockstar, as well as Nintendo, are in this for the money. And what could be a better cash generator than bringing one of gaming's most popular franchises to a console that has a humongous base?

I'm definitely for it. As long is its a brand new game not a port of GTA IV (or a previous entry).
dan @ Sep 5th 2008 11:34AM
I definitely think it could work because:
1: The Wii has lots of hardcore gamers playing it
2: The problem for third parties isn't the Wii audience, the problem is crappy games. GTA always delivers.
3: GTA with the Wii-mote makes a LOT of sense. Mario Kart shows it's ideal for driving, and Metroid shows it's ideal for shooting. Not to mention many of the other irreverent things you can do in GTA.
They'd be foolish NOT to. I really hope they do, just do prove all the haters wrong.

I'm not sooo into it.
I had liked GTA since GTA 1, but San Andreas and 4 didn't appealed to me
Lets see how this rumor develop. Far Cry 2 was on the same par as GTAIV for me, till I saw a video that made me "WOW"
Apothekari @ Sep 5th 2008 12:03PM
The Perfect Fit is "San Andreas Stories"
Add in "hold the nunchuck-turn -wiimote-on-its-side"driving controls and beating a mofo down gesture controls and I am so there.
Wah-hah-ha! @ Sep 5th 2008 12:31PM
A proper spinoff of 3, as long as its appropriately graphically updated
"Gimmicky" Wiimote controls are a must also (gimmicky in the sense that you do pointer for some activities, tilt for others, waggle for more), as long as its well-integrated
traditional options too, of course.
CJLopez @ Sep 5th 2008 3:11PM
Yo Rockstar, give us Mii Customizable carachter creator!!!!!
That would rock on online game!!! Even if I have topay for the online service!!!!
Dustin @ Sep 5th 2008 4:10PM
I would like pointer controls for shooting, but motion controls for driving would be overdoing it, IMO.
Maybe they should include different control options for different modes (Driving, shooting, controlling planes, walking, shooting, ext.).
Ryan @ Sep 5th 2008 4:22PM
that sounds so fake i dont even care
what would it look like??? i mean mario baseball looked better on gamecube
Chris Are @ Sep 6th 2008 12:33PM
It's fake because of the graphical capabilities? We already know one is being developed for the DS and the graphical representation will be terrible when compared to the previous iterations...
I think Nintendo wants in on some of the GTA moolah. But I think at best this is going to be a Zelda Phantom Hourglass or FF Tactics or something- where it's nice to have, but really people want the "console" release on Sony or Microsoft's system.

sounds retarted

gta isnt one of my favorite franchises, but itll be pretty sweet to see it come to wii. id buy it if it wasnt a port.
DaisukeKiriyama @ Sep 5th 2008 4:36PM
I hope it's actually a new game in the series instead of a spin off.
Liberty City Stories and Vice City Stories were abysmal, and I'd hate to see that happen on the Wii.
Sisyphus @ Sep 5th 2008 4:37PM
GTA:SA is probably at the top of my games list for the last couple of years. Its just the right combination of music, generation, and gameplay to be amazing. If it something as diverse and interesting as LA, SF and LV, I'm all for it. If it's just NY, I don't care. New York doesn't interest most people.
Feba @ Sep 5th 2008 5:54PM
It's really only a matter of time, considering the popularity of Wii.
In the mean time, I'll be enjoying Godfather: Blackhand, which I managed to pick up for $10. It's a good GTA clone, and a good game in it's own right, as long as you aren't expecting greatness.
Someone above brings up an interesting idea-- where to set it? There's San Andreas, which is basically SF/LA/LV and some various wilderness between them. Liberty City is of course NYC, and Vice City Miami.
The real strength of San Andreas is the variety it offers; not just being a big city, but having different flavors. Everything from deserts and little shacks to a major city with skyscrapers and a beach. The only other place I could think would offer that much variety would be the Northwest; a Seattle-like city, with a Canada-parody to the north, and other stuff out east?
Sisyphus @ Sep 6th 2008 11:32AM
In the Northwest is an interesting idea, but I don't know if it would have enough appeal for most people. New York doesn't interest me at all, so GTA3 and GTA4 do nothing for me. Miami's kind of interesting in a sweaty way, but the variety of environments in SA made it awesome.

BUT TAHT WILL ROON THE FAMLY!!!!!!!!!
Seriously, I wouldn't be surprise if GTA Wii sold horribly. I mean, sure, it'd sell WELL, but in the end, GTA IV's sales would blow it away, no matter HOW good it is!
Not that I don't want it, I'd LOVE it!
Ian @ Sep 6th 2008 8:11AM
I'm gonna throw my Wii out the window if they use the RE4 engine again
j.howlett @ Sep 6th 2008 11:52AM
i'd jump at a gta on wii. i just hope it gives the freedom of the ps2 titles. i like 4 alot but it feels like it's missing something even with the great graphics and new features. a gta wii could be fantastic with the controls done right
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Sep 7th 2008 5:33AM
No. There's no reason to use that stupid tilt driving. It doesn't work. Tack on as much needless waggle as you want (MOVE YOUR CONTROLLER RANDOMLY TO RELOAD FOR SOME REASON), but leave driving to the analog stick.
