Wii recovery mode discovered, allows console to run back-ups [update]
Apparently, there's a secret recovery mode within the Wii that can be accessed through a special GameCube memory card. What's the significance of this? Well, don't you read post titles? It allows the system to play back-ups.
There isn't much in the way of information regarding the process right now, but the deal seems to be that when this GameCube memory card is inserted into the system, with a unique ID signature present, it takes the Wii into recovery mode, allowing the user to run basically anything. We'll update you all with more information as it's made available.
Update: It appears the recovery mode is only good for fixing "certain bricked consoles." Oh well ...

Neat! I think my console used this feature a few months back. We had a lightning storm that knocked my Wii out. The system wouldn't power on, even when I tried it in two different outlets. I didn't know what else to do. I thought I'd have to send it back for repairs, but I decided to try plugging it back into its regular outlet one final time. And it worked!
Unfortunately, Okami, the game that was inside, wouldn't start up. I tried a few other discs and they were fine. Then I tried Okami again and it worked!
Finally, I tried a Virtual Console title, Kirby's Adventure, to see if my downloaded content was still in there. It took a lot longer than normal to load, but it eventually worked, too. Now, the VC games seem to load at normal speed.
I just figured the Wii was self-healing or had a Wolverine-esque regeneration factor. The quality of Nintendo's hardware is really unsurpassed and it always impresses me.
