Animal Crossing boxart warms our cold, cold hearts
Just as Animal Crossing: City Folk won't be abandoning the series' trademark graphics, so the boxart is exactly what you'd expect: a bright, bustling village scene featuring fresh fruit, happy animals, KK strumming out a tune beneath a tree, and Tom Nook waiting to rake in your Bells. A lot of those villagers look familiar to! While a lot of traditional elements are on display, there is a hint of the fresh possibilities afforded by the titular city, and a bright yellow bus to transport us there. Ah, we're excited already! Do you approve, dear reader?

I will not be fooled into animal servitude this time.
HairyBalls @ Sep 4th 2008 5:00PM
It is ok...
I like Wild World's better.
Paroxysm @ Sep 4th 2008 5:40PM
Wow! This game was great 6 years ago! I can't wait to play it... Oh wait! I can!
Dylan @ Sep 4th 2008 5:42PM
Well I love Animal Crossing, so I can't wait for this game.
Steve Galgas @ Sep 4th 2008 6:20PM
You know what would have been brilliant?? If a form of Animal Crossing was integrated into the Wii system itself from the start, a la Miis, or Playstation Home. I think it could have been a real interesting feature for the system.
But as it is, this version of AC seems like just another repeat.
Phil @ Sep 4th 2008 6:49PM
Wild World's cover sucked big time.
I LOVE this cover.
This make's up for the pathetic rehash that was wild world. HEY, say what you want about the game being repetitive all it's own, but the game needed a step up in interactivity, and the WiFi for Wild World felt like a pathetic test stage, whereas I have faith in City Folk to be the final cut of multiplayer for this game.
Hamster @ Sep 4th 2008 6:53PM
That is lovely.
tkAshur @ Sep 4th 2008 7:32PM
It's good...but...I can't actually see that far in the game itself. that would be cool if the planet view eventually looked like rolling hills...but it don't. I kinda miss the GC versions view.
As for the game...I hear there is no actually Wii motion functionality...just point and click. Please don't get me wrong...this will be a blast. But I was lookin forward to actually yankin the pole back or swinging my net.
BTW...wheres the "Wii Speak Included" sticker? Cover for the game itself...and then an additional box?
flameofdoom666 @ Sep 4th 2008 9:17PM
It does not come packaged with the game. It is a 30$ additional fee.
MidnightScott @ Sep 4th 2008 8:11PM
I'm looking forward to real core titles like Animal Crossing & Wii Music this holiday season.
Just kidding...come on Disaster US release date!!! ^.^

I was so excited to hear about a new AC for the Wii. After seeing the game, it looks like the Gamecube version with some of the neat stuff moved to a 'city'. That's just... unbelievably lame. I just don't care now.
VaultICEE @ Sep 4th 2008 10:34PM
I'm pretty sad too to see that there isn't much new other than the town, which to me doesn't look like a bundle of new options.
Hopefully its better than it looks at this stage. I played AC and WW both for a total of probably 2 and a half years straight, so I'm pumped to be even more of a couch potato with City Folk :D
SoshiKitai @ Sep 4th 2008 10:57PM
Whatever all the "booo~~ lame!!"-people say, it makes me confused...
I mean, they want something new. As if it needed pizzazz or somethin'... like greater graphics or all-new all-new features that blow your mind, and etc etc etc etc...
That makes me tilt my head like a confused pup.
I mean... they are talking about the same Animal Crossing, right?
The same Animal Crossing from long ago? The peaceful, eased-back, rest-and-relax, go-and-slow Animal Crossing?
Why do you need new feature for relaxin' and chillin'?
I mean, all you'd need to add is more actions towards the items to make it feel "new". Graphics wouldn't matter- cuz then you'd be relaxin' in HIGH DEFINITIOMG!!!
It's Animal Crossing, people. You just relax. But now you could do it with friends in an easier fashion with voice chat and tons more festival events. MORE FESTIVAL EVENTS! I love that. :D
If you want something new, go get Sims, that's pretty chill while having new things every... week.
As for me, I'm gettin' AC:CF. And I'll be happy. :P

SoshiKitai is right!
(and Adrian is right for saying SoshiKitai is right!)
Adrian @ Sep 5th 2008 1:26AM
SoshiKitai is right!
This game is gonna be awesome! I am very excited to play it. SoshiKitai, I want your friend code. you're a smart dude!
jesse @ Sep 5th 2008 1:37PM
Sounds like you're all a bunch of festival freaks
Deona @ Sep 5th 2008 1:55PM
I am sooo excited for the new AC! I played both previous games and loved them both. I like the simplicity of the game--talking with neighbors, fishing, updating your house. I wonder if you can go to the island like you could in the GC version (you had to hook up your GBA).

This will be my first Animal Crossing, so I'm excited for it.
ZombieOrgasm @ Sep 6th 2008 8:55PM
I didn't want new graphics, I wanted new game play.
I want something really new to the table. This game is full of rehashes. The festivals? We saw that in the Gamecube version. The online play doesn't seem to offer anything new at all. Great, the big hype about online play is WiiSpeak? The video of people playing together was pathetic. It shows them ONCE AGAIN fishing. How many of us actually did fishing contests in the DS version?
Animal Crossing is such a great idea and has so many possiblities for new features. City Folk though just was a sad disappointment for me.
I'll pass, not playing the same thing. To me this is just Animal Crossing Ver. 1.5. I want a TRUE SEQUEL.
All I got from Soshi's post is that he doesn't mind paying money for the same exact experience over and over again.
josh @ Sep 14th 2008 6:49PM
Yeah exactly, if it's the same thing as wild world as it seems so far, I can relax and play Wild World some more again. What would be the difference then?
I don't see anything wrong in wanting upgraded graphics, I understand the style is simple but when it looks the same it just feels like they didn't do anything.
Ithius @ Sep 17th 2008 9:02PM
It would be pretty cool if the island was back. That's the big thing that'll make me want to buy this game. Animal Crossing for gamecube was one of the most relaxing games ever to me. Sometimes at night i'd play it and it gave a very home-ish feeling which i liked. then i stopped playing for a while and i felt i was gone too long, and the town was a mess of items, all my favorite neighbors gone or in my sucky town on the other memory card. Wild World completely killed the aspect of relaxing just by being on the DS. Not saying i hate WW, i love it, but it was a strain to play and you couldnt exactly lay back against the bed with your arms dangling from the bed holding the gamecube remote while you watched your char move on the Television.
And the city aspect of the game, is that one of those "new" features where they try to make it seem like a whole new world but really its just the section of the town you see in the trailer? And the NES games would be fun too!
Throw in the Island capability and the NES games and I'll buy this in a heartbeat.
