The Conduit's publisher soon to be announced
High Voltage Software said at PAX that they have a publishing deal for The Conduit, which they "may announce in the next two weeks." We completely don't get the use of a publisher's identity as a tease -- although we're talking about it right now on a fairly popular gaming site, so maybe we do.
Chris Kohler spent some time with the demo of the game, declaring the control customizations "excellent," though the default control scheme was more than sufficient for him. Aside from a general lack of enthusiasm about the environments, which look "flat, boring, and basic at this point," Kohler enjoyed the demo, which was mostly focused on shooting some aliens. He left the demo behind after dying to a boss creature -- the game is "definitely a challenge."

challenging gameplay, yay!

I really hope it's not Graffiti Entertainment, that publisher delayed a game like ten times this year. But most likely it's gonna be a big publisher, like Sega, Ubisoft, Konami, maybe Nintendo themselves. Now all we need is a precise release date.

*fingers crossed*
Not EA, Not EA, Not EA, Not EA, Not EA
oh wait
Not Ubisoft, Not Ubisoft, Not Ubisoft, Not Ubisoft
oh damn
Not Atari, Not Atari, Not Atari, Not Atari
is there anything left now?
Sora @ Sep 3rd 2008 7:42PM
You forgot Activision-Blizzard. Or should I say...BLIZZAVISION?
Wah-hah-ha! @ Sep 3rd 2008 7:49PM
Hey, EA's published some good shit recently
Mirror's Edge, Dead Space, Skate, Skate It, etc
Why not add The Conduit to such a credible list?
CJLopez @ Sep 3rd 2008 8:25PM
Man, readed my mind
And you can get Blizzard out of the picture, they don't focus on consoles.
Please, let it be either Nintendo or Sega!!!!!

I sincerely hope it isn't EA, since that would likely kill any chance of online support for those of us in Japan.
(EA didn't provide servers for Medal of Honor: Heroes 2 in Japan.)
Otherwise, any company willing to use Nintendo's online system is fine by me.
Highlar @ Sep 3rd 2008 9:11PM
Why not EA? They are apparently the ONLY company that can get a decent, full online experience going for Wii games SANS friend codes. And for The Conduit, that's exactly what we are going to need with the 16 player online matches that we have been told to expect.
Nintendo, though I love the company, cannot do The Conduit justice online with its present set up of friend codes.

Why I initially wrote "Not EA" was because they have a tendency to buy franchises and go fucking nuts with them, ruining the original game idea in the process. Any company that thinks releasing the same game ten years in a row with slightly updated graphics is imho just not a really great choice for innovation (and HVS needs a publisher that supports them in just that). I didn't even know about server online issues and so on.
And yeah, they do have a few good games in their line-up but considering the fact that they also shovel out tons of crap each year and their portfolio includes thousands of IPs in my book EA publishes a lot of crap and I can't praise a turd just because it has raisins in it. Harsh language just for emphasis, I don't hate them but I don't like their sports games at all, never did, and I can't give them those as credit. Need for Speed is nice but well, worn out. Most of the other stuff is bought IPs that will ultimately all be ruined by EA's polish and re-release business model, Skate and Skate It might still be alright but wait until "Skate That 2011" and you'll see what I mean.
Cesaria (Enjoys all systems, despite my reputation) @ Sep 3rd 2008 6:55PM
It's me. I'm publishing it. The cats out of the bag!
RossGough @ Sep 3rd 2008 6:58PM
hahahahah!
bloody brilliant.
Iambob98 @ Sep 3rd 2008 7:13PM
I cant wait to get my hands on this game! And with the announcment of online and offline play for multiplayer as well as a possible system link... this game is a must have
INDAMIXOFACTION @ Sep 3rd 2008 7:26PM
It's either Nintendo or EA, probably Nintendo...mark my words.
Highlar @ Sep 3rd 2008 9:14PM
Yeah, I agree, that its probably either: a) Nintendo because of how closely they seem to have been working with HVS and "assisting" them with things like getting a working voice chat going for an FPS game; or b) EA for the use of their online servers, AKA: EA Nation.
Those are the only two choices that I can currently see them going with.
ththxtreme2 @ Sep 3rd 2008 7:43PM
The only good thing about EA publishing it would be that we can use EA nation for the online play. I couldn't imagine using "friend codes" for this game. Gives me shivers...

> We completely don't get the use of a publisher's identity as a tease
What's not to get? All of the features we still want to know about (things you Would expect to be publicity teases) are tied directly to publisher choice.
Since Nintendo (thus far) hasn't been willing to provide a modern online feature-set, what we'll get could be dependent on either the publisher providing it, or Nintendo making major policy exceptions/changes.
Wah-hah-ha! @ Sep 3rd 2008 7:54PM
The bets are up for Nintendo (since The Conduit seems to be getting a jump on WiiSpeak and Motion Plus technologies), EA (since they've sponsored many such ambitious projects recently), and Ubisoft (with a large acquisition fund, and a lacking Wii docket)
I don't really see anyone else
shadowchaoscontrol @ Sep 4th 2008 12:44AM
well, since this game is probably gonna be rated M, we may see no FC's in this game
AnthonyD @ Sep 4th 2008 6:59AM
nintendo...Nintendo...NINTENDO!
Nintendo are all ruffled after the SHAMBLES that was E3. Now this game is being developed that show cases the potential of the Wii, wallows in all its new hardware features and offers its unrealized appeal to hard core gamers.
I think they would be idiotic not to pass up an opportunity to publish a title like this. Anyway I hope it is someone that can invest heavily in this development team so that many more quality titles are released from them.
No more endless remaking of old PS2 titles or cut-down versions of PS3/360 titles... 'Wii' deserve better than that!
S4Rs @ Sep 4th 2008 8:19AM
Your all wrong, its Valve!!!
Matt @ Sep 4th 2008 8:48PM
Oh god Valve would be heavenly.
Which reminds me, they should put Team Fortress on Wii.
Back on subject, I predict either EA, Activision or THQ. All seem to be the best third party publishers right now. EA's online service makes them a great contender.
