VC Monday Madness: Super Mario RPG and Clu Clu Land
Our commitment cannot be measured. Here we are on a holiday, bringing you another VC Monday Madness. This week is a big one, so we decided to take the most care possible with this week's video. The level of professionalism within will likely blow your mind. Hit it up above, then head past the break for more.

Clu Clu Land (NES, 1 - 2 players, 500 Wii Points)
Wii Fanboy says: do not download
Clu Clu Land isn't really a bad game. I just didn't like the controls, as they felt a bit clunky, and the game is pretty darn difficult. It's clearly not for everyone.
Why are you reading this? Download it already.

Sarcasm ahoy!!!!
Mr Khan @ Sep 1st 2008 7:13PM
I can't!
College has some sort of fucked up WiFi system that Wii can't even detect (it claims no signal found)
I must hash this problem out with their IT (ugh) and then probably just wind up buying the USB-Ethernet dongle
zchry @ Sep 1st 2008 10:02PM
I really hope that doesn't happen to me when I go to college. Then again, I can't even connect at home anymore.
My dad likes to make things totally incompatible with each other. It's a hobby of his.
I was wondering, though, if people could connect at college. My sister's suitemates have a Wii, but I don't know if they can get online.
The way their network is set up, even when plugged in via Ethernet you have to open up a browser screen and log in using your school ID. I bet the Internet Channel could work, but the others probably don't. Is your college like that? If so, let me know if it works out.
KidSqueek @ Sep 2nd 2008 2:18AM
my school is like that too. what i have to do is go to the IT dept and register my laptop. once they register your mac address, then your computer can read the signal.... those tricky bastards!
beeping robot @ Sep 2nd 2008 2:51AM
Here's how it's done... Bring your own wireless router (look around for a sale, ebay, whatever, you can find one on the cheap, especially if you'd have to invest that money into the ethernet adaptor anyway)... Register with your school on your computer, then set the wrouter to spoof your computer's MAC address. Or just make sure you set up the router first so it registers its MAC. Then you can get your Wii on, and if your suitemates are nice and buy you beer, maybe you give them the WPA key. Buy router, play Wii, free beer. Ta-da!

A puzzle and a passe game. Meh, no thanks.
Rich @ Sep 1st 2008 9:10PM
David shouldnt be allowed to review games until he is smart enough to realize that there is a shoot button... duh!... suddenly Clu Clu Land isnt so difficult anymore. Try pushing the buttons next time you dope. I loved Clu Clu Land when I was 8 years old but then again even at 8 I knew enough to figure out the most basic of game controls.
Try less sarcasm next time, smart guy.
Michael Sliczniak @ Sep 2nd 2008 9:52AM
I would have written my post in a nicer way, but yes I remember in Clu Clu Land that you shot these like half bubbles and it would stun the enemies. Then you could push them into the walls to kill them.
It was a great game, if you liked Lolo you will like this one. The idea is that you need to uncover the gems and they form the outline of a figure. In later levels you need to go over them twice and then in other levels if you go over them again they disappear and you need to go over them again.
Also you can only turn with those pegs.
I wish that the video reviews would give a little bit of a description about what the game is about and the controls. I think David was just trying to be funny in this one and that was disappointing to us that remembered Clu Clu Land fondly. i wish the video described the game and gameplay better so that those with no experience of it that might like it would be more likely to give it a try.

I want SMRPG. I want it so bad. :(
SiliconDioxide @ Sep 1st 2008 10:05PM
Could you tell use more about the games? Like plot, controls etc... Some of us may have never played these games before.
Thegamingguru @ Sep 1st 2008 10:05PM
Im surprised no one mentioned the fact that Ys Book I&II was also released today. And it has the exact same music and opening as the Turbo CD rom had...

uhmm... That was last week, dude
Berty200 @ Sep 1st 2008 10:51PM
Never heard of an RPG? Final fantasy...? um... zelda?
Anyways, yeah, I've never played SMRPG, but Paper Mario: TTYD happens to be my favorite game, so getting this tomorrow probably.
David Hinkle @ Sep 1st 2008 11:26PM
It was just my attempt at joking. Of course I've heard of RPGs before! :P
Waffala @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:09AM
Wait, a Square downloadable game on Wii without "bonus" DLC? Where's the "optional" extras to beat us up and steal our wallets? I feel so betrayed.
If I buy this will Nintendo release Earthbound on the VC?
hellhammer @ Sep 2nd 2008 2:30AM
"If I buy this will Nintendo release Earthbound on the VC?"
My thoughts exactly. It's really nice to finally have Mario RPG on the VC, but it's been ESRB rated since the end of 2006 and available in other countries for months.
After all the work that went into all the different EarthBound fan sites, the recent Mother marathon, NOA sieges including e-mails, letters, and phone calls, releasing SMRPG is almost a slap in the face to the thousands of people begging for one measly EB game.
Also, who's dick do I have to suck to get more than 2 VC titles released a week? Because it's starting to take it's tole on my patience.
bug frawg @ Sep 2nd 2008 3:22AM
if super mario rpg is your idea of a slap in the face, I'd love to see what you think is an amazing gift from above.
hellhammer @ Sep 2nd 2008 3:20PM
Ha. That's not exactly what I said.
You must not understand the concept of a back-handed complement.
Josh @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:49AM
Interesting in seeing sales numbers for SMRPG.
And other games on VC, as well...
marzz @ Sep 2nd 2008 2:22AM
Well if it gives you an idea Super Mario RPG showed up this afternoon at #5 on the most popular list of the wii shop channel. Previously there was Mario World.
Ihar `Philips` Filipau @ Sep 2nd 2008 8:37AM
I haven't played the Mario RPG, but I have played for about 5 minutes the "Brothers in Time" thingy on DS. (5 minutes played == out of 4 hours of it on my R4, 3:55 I was just trying to find a combo to skip the endless Mario/mushroom kingdom pr0n).
Me as PC RPG fan can say that Mario RPG is probably worst of RPG genre you could ever find: there is NO development of character you can control. Endless unskippable pr0n doesn't make it any more interesting.
100% boring and terrible crap. I still can't understand what kool aid people who gave it >90% rating drunk.
Tim @ Sep 2nd 2008 10:58AM
Old Man Comment.......
I had this game when it first came out on SNES, great game, went looking for it again about two years ago and could not find a copy for less than $60. I was very happy to download it and share it with my 9 year old.
MY GOD, I'M OLD!!!
Sisyphus @ Sep 2nd 2008 11:30AM
I just don't understand the appeal of Super Mario RPG. All of the videos just look dull.
Vic Sage @ Sep 10th 2008 11:11PM
I'm with you. I tried it a while ago and thought it was poorly done.
milan @ Sep 2nd 2008 2:35PM
whoa, lots of comments for a VC MM!
keep it up David! YOU ARE AMAZING.
Much love,
milan
