Nyko unveils a strange concept: a wireless Classic Controller
Nyko's Wing is the first truly wireless Classic Controller alternative (that isn't actually a GameCube controller): instead of a short cord, it communicates with the Wiimote via a wireless adapter. Unfortunately, it also looks about as comfortable to use as the Turbo Touch 360. The patriotic-looking Wing runs on two AAA batteries, and can even recharge them while playing via a USB cable. Nyko has yet to release any price or release date for this controller.
What's so weird about a wireless Classic? It may not connect to the Wiimote with a wire, but it's still connected. You still have to have the Wiimote sitting next to you (which isn't really a problem). The controller communicates wirelessly with the Wiimote, and then the Wiimote communicates with the Wii. It's like a relay for your button presses. We want one like GameCyte's preview copy.

aside from me not minding the official, corded one, this thing is just ugly
i also don't think i could ever trust a 3rd part peripheral

I trust certain 3rd party peripheral companies. Nyko has been good to the Wii. I have the battery charger, perfect shot, and classic controller shell. All three are really quality products, IMO.
This controller is pretty ugly though. I do like that the joystick isn't octagonal. A non octagonal joystick would have been great for playing NiGHTS.

I don't know...
My Nyko charging station is one of the most unreliable pieces of crap I ever bought from them. I have to make sure the light on the bottom stays blue every time I need to charge a controller because if it turns green, it means the charger thinks the batteries are charged already, even if the Wiimote has been sitting there for 5 seconds. I have to re-adjust most of the time by picking up and replacing the controller, or switching the controller to the other dock to have the controller completely charge. I also have to make sure that I don't shake the floor (I weight around 140 lbs. for a 5'6" guy, so I'm not heavy at all!) when I walk near it because even the slightest shift in position will cause that blue light to turn green... And I'll have to re-adjust the controller again.

lol @ the preview copy of the thing. I like that he had to assemble the thing himself.

O Jeez, I remember the Turbo Touch 360. It just looked horrible from the ad back in the day...

FINALLY! This is what I've been wanting since launch. Forget wheels, guitars, zappers, wireless nunchuks, etc.
A wireless classic controller fixes its biggest flaw. YAY!!!

so now instead of investing in AAs you need to use AAAs at the same time? crazy. pass.

wow, Nintendo sure found out how to get rid of third parties making money with hardware copycats....
manaman @ Aug 31st 2008 3:08AM
Man! I'm so glad you mentioned the Turbo Touch 360. I thought I was the only one who thought it was the worst controller ever invented when it came out. All my friends and relatives thought it was awesome, though.

In Argos there is a Wireless Classic controller that looks like the normal one, I still wouldn't trust it. But that Nyko one looks quite spiffy!
