Wii Warm Up: Flipping out
We're very excited about Alien Crush Returns, because, as you've noticed, we're all about the Turbografx-16 original and its pseudo-sequel, Devil's Crush. We need some more time to learn to love Jaki Crush, but we're definitely fans of that one too. But just because we're insane-o-crazy about this series doesn't mean we're avowed video pinball fanatics. For the most part, outside of Naxat's excellent games, we're unmoved by simulated pinball. Are you a fan of pinball games? If so, are you also a fan of the noisy, clattering, awesome real thing? Also, what's your opinion of Crüe Ball?

Alien Crush was one of my favorites on my TG-16. Love this series and I am excited for the new title!

Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection is one of my favorite games on the Wii. It is the best pinball simulation I have ever played. If you are a fan of "real" pinball, you need to spend the $20 to own this game.

I enjoyed Pokemon Pinball back in the day. Anything pokemon actually. But it was really hard!
As for real pinball machines, the ones i've seen usually need a quarter or some kind of change, which I never seem to have. So I'll spend one lump sum on a video game and play that.

I would kill for some real pinball action. I lived in Ann Arbor for a while and spent much time and money at Pinball Pete's. I was the king at the Indiana Jones machine, the digitized quotes from the movie are forever burned in my brain. Also, seconds on the Williams collection.

If you're ever in Vegas, check out the Pinball Hall of Fame (pinballmuseum.org). It's run by Tim Arnold, formerly of Pinball Pete's. He has one of the largest collections of pins in the world (numbers well over 1,000 are usually thrown around) and also apparently owns one of every Gottlieb pin ever made.
That said, I really want High Speed and Pinbot for VC.

I would love to see a Bally collection.

Honestly, you know what game I really liked? Galactic Pinball for the Virtual Boy. Probably the ONLY Virtual Boy game I liked.
Also, if it counts, I got a lot of playtime out of Sonic Spinball.

Thirds on the Williams collection. I've always enjoyed pinball sims (mostly on the PC in the past) and the Williams collection is the best I've ever played.
I bought Dream Pinball at the same time as Williams and although its a good game, I look at it more as a video game using a pinball interface, whereas Williams is a straight up pinball sim - and an excellent one that makes great use of the Wii controllers.
Sisyphus @ Aug 28th 2008 11:14AM
The Williams Collection is an outstanding pinball collection. Because it's based on real tables, they're balanced, thought-out and well developed. Plus, it's fun to play on old tables that you might've played in an arcade. Definately worth $20. The flippers are Z and B, so it has a very pinball feel, while relaxing on the couch.

By the way, what I wouldn't give for another Pinball Collection for the Wii Although, they should start a topic for it, I would hope for:
Addams Family, Indiana Jones, Invaders From Mars.... doh, and several others that I can't remember at this second.

Too many copyrights and licenses to deal with

Your picture of Pinbot has inspired me to break out the NES and play some Pinbot. I think my cousins and I played this competitively and we knew exactly when the bot would say something creepy and double the points. Crud, now I can't remember what it said so I have to play!

Williams Collection was all right (certainly better than the first Pinball Hall of Fame game), but I've had better pinball experiences on video game consoles: Sonic Spinball, Flipnic, and Kirby's Pinball Land, to be precise.
I'm gonna echo what Sisyphus said: we need another Williams collection, with a slew of the better licensed tables up for virtualization. Addams Family, Twilight Zone, The Shadow, Star Trek TNG, so on and so forth. Those were flippin' awesome.
Mr Khan @ Aug 28th 2008 12:05PM
They're certainly fun. I've sunk a lot of hours into the one that comes standard with Windows XP, and with Sonic Spinball
Nothing quite beats the real experience though. Especially the South Park machine

My all time favorite pinball games is a old monocolor Gameboy game called "Revenge of the Gator"! I had sold it years ago when I sold off my old Gameboy. Years later I had my Gameboy player for my Gamecube and I found a copy of it! I still have it! Great game!! Wish I could play it on my DS.
Garu @ Aug 28th 2008 12:20PM

Revenge of the Gator is a terrific game. With Kirby's Pinball Land, they're probably two of the games I've played the most (after Link's Awakening) on my Game Boy.
Other than that, I love the Williams Collection and have played quite a bit the two "Crushes" on the VC.
Roll on Jaki Crush, Alien Crush Returns and more collections.
And if Nintendo ever adds the Game Boy to the VC console lineup, roll on Revenge of the Gator and Kirby's Pinball Land!

Why in the screenshot the table has the Motorola logo reversed??
wildweasellemon @ Aug 28th 2008 3:23PM
PHOF: The Williams Collection is indeed the best pinball sim I've played in a long time. If that doesn't warm you up to simulations (Taxi! Pinbot! Funhouse!), then I have no idea what will!
On the other hand, though, I'm rather partial to Digital Illusions' trilogy of Amiga pinball games, especially Pinball Fantasies. Who remembers that one? Anyone? God, I'm old!
