Sega shows off new Sonic Unleashed screens
Despite being told otherwise like right to my face at E3, it appears that Sega's newest Sonic game on Wii will be very much like the Xbox 360 title, in that it's essentially two different games in one. The first game, which is very reminiscent of the Sonic you know and love, is competent and could provide hours of fun. The other is a darker and far less forgiving affair, as you control the Sonic Werehog and mash buttons in a generic brawler, all the while engaging in some mediocre platforming segments sprinkled in between the fighting. But hey, let's not focus on the bad, let's focus on the half of the game you want to play.
Check out the new screens in our gallery below.

After checking out some gameplay videos I'm not too sure about this game... even the speedy segments seem oddly unfun. At least I know one thing, though - I don't think I'll be getting the Wii version even if I decide to pick this game up. The character models are great but the environments could do some work. Get it looking like Secret Rings!

I'd wait to see videos. The only thing i can see wrong with them is that they look grainy and jaggy, which is almost always fixed in motion
The trees look bad, too, but trees even looked bad in Heavy Rain, from that one video we have

Considering that my love for Sonic games has been inversely proportional to the mainstream media's hate for it, the werehog portions sound very appealing

Are...are you saying that you...gulp...LIKED Sonic 2006?

Well, the speed will hopefully make up for any environment shortcomings... But yes, Sonic and the Black Knight (Secret Rings sequel) is the Sonic game I'm looking forward to for the Wii (and any platform, Secret Rings was better than Sonic 2006 on PS3/360 by far). Everyone bashes that for the sword but it's less ridiculous than turning into a hogwolf.

So, am I the only one that thinks that Sonic the Werehog is stealing the whole concept of Ristar with those freakish elastic arms of his? Tell me you see the resemblance.
Mr Khan @ Aug 22nd 2008 11:55AM
I can't draw that correlation because Ristar was as adorable as Stafy, and i can't imagine either of them ripping and tearing hungrily through malevolent robots
