LucasArts mad about MotionPlus?
Despite it being arguably the best thing to come from Nintendo's E3 line-up, everyone isn't happy about MotionPlus. At the top of the list of disgruntled folk is none other than LucasArts. Why? Well, according to a blurb from the latest issue of Game Informer, which was transcribed by a GAFfer (the one with the Arkham Asylum reveal), third parties weren't privy to the info before Nintendo's press conference (if they read us, they would have learned about it a day beforehand). That's old hat to us all, though.
The problem is that LucasArts specifically took the time to craft The Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels specifically for the Wii. See, everyone wants a 1:1 lightsaber game and it would've been a fantastic way to market the game. We guess that ship has sailed ...

Even if they had known about it, they wouldn't delay the game, since it is being cross promoted with the movie.

Yeah, that's the thing. Even if Nintendo had shown it to developers in May or something, it still wouldn't have been enough to specifically re-work this game, since their hands are tied to release it in time with the movie and show
Now: Force Unleashed, that game has no such restraints upon it

Why? It's free license to create your sequel no matter how poorly the game does. Star Wars - Licensed Tripe Saber Duels+! With true 1:1 retelling of the same story!
TWOO DEE @ Aug 14th 2008 12:34PM
exactly - they're milking the franchise...if they're not willing to delay the game, i certainly wont care if they shit out another sequel with m+ implemented...
samfish @ Aug 14th 2008 12:56PM
While I would be pretty fuckin' pissed at Nintendo for not telling anyone about it, too...in fairness, we're talking about a movie tie-in game here.
Not exactly words anyone wants to hear when they're searching for a good game to play...

Someone still would have spilled the beans if they had told ANYONE before the press conference. See they couldn't even hide it from the guys here. They did what they had to do and to be honest, I can't remember the last time I played a non-Adventure game from LucasArts that didn't suck major balls after 1999. Force unleashed is a joke from what they've promised, the Wii version looks dull and lifeless and nothing like what was advertised. Quite frankly I didn't expect anything else. Just typical bigwhig shovelware.
I'm still looking forward to some cool games with the M+ but the devs really should stop whining and get to coding, right?

KOTOR &Battlefront? You're saying those games suck? Douche.
meist3r @ Aug 19th 2008 1:28AM
Oh yeah, Kotor, I actually quite enjoyed that one but I completely forgot that even was a LucasArts title. I attribute anything that was good about the game to Bioware. I didn't care for Battlefront so I can't say anything about that one but apart from those I'm sticking with my point. Douche yourself, not everyone has to like the games you liked you moronic prick.

I think they are just mad that Wii Sports Beach is supposed to have true lightsaber battles before they do using the Wii-MotionPlus.
Edge @ Aug 14th 2008 1:57PM
Organizationally, I see this as a VERY bad sign for Nintendo. They are getting reactionary rather than predictive or innovative. The fact that someone like Lucasarts didn't get this early is a sign that Nintendo isn't planning far enough ahead.
charon12 @ Aug 14th 2008 3:17PM
Seems to me Nintendo is reacting to competitors directly "borrowing" ideas this generation. Look at the avatars on 360 and rumors of motion controller plus the PS3 motion tacked on after Wii was announced.
I don't want to stir things up about the copycat-ing, but it may be responsible for Nintendo's handling of Motion+.
However, it seems like this approach did or may yet alienate some third party developers and I can't say I'm surprised.
Edge @ Aug 14th 2008 3:40PM
Copying is the reality of any good idea. If you REALLY want to do something innovative, do something with the unique resources of your company. Anyone can build an accelerometer or an IR camera.
techfreak713 @ Aug 14th 2008 3:25PM
that pic is total lulz...
but on topic, i actually think the motionplus was a response to the rumored 360 motion controller, just because the motion controller that was rumored was to be WAY more accurate than the wiimote, so nintendo had to respond before the only thing they had going for them was gone.
DonWii @ Aug 14th 2008 5:20PM
Exactly, which is why they announced it 30 minutes before Microsoft's press conference.
OTAM @ Aug 14th 2008 5:41PM
Nintendo keeping stuff a secret to benefit themselves? Unheard of.
Just like the online stuff with the Gamecube.
Polecat @ Aug 15th 2008 3:01AM
I may seem like the clueless doof when I mention this, but nonetheless..... us 1:1 achieved by adding another accelerometer? if that's the case, wouldn't the zapper pretty much make any mote-chuck combo into a motion plus control?
