DS Daily: Accessorizing
Most DS owners have, at some time or another, picked up a case (to protect the system) or perhaps a specialized stylus. But have you bought anything else? Hard shells, skins -- decorative, silicon, or both -- or something wacky like a stand? We'd love to hear how you accessorize your baby, even if it's only a matter of buying something to keep those tiny carts in.

Honestly, I really haven't bought many accessories. In fact, I've only bought one - one of those hard metal cases. I hated it, and think it's a huge waste of money. There are some cool accessories out there, but I'm pretty happy with the DS as it is. It's tough, rugged, and ready to go. Unlike some other perfectly acceptable portable gaming systems that happen to be ridiculously fragile and too big to fit into anyone's pockets.....

....I do have my white DS lite pimped out, though, with some awesome Japanese Pokemon stickers that I bought 10 or 11 years ago. Specifically, it's a picture of a Tangela hugging a Jigglypuff.
(Does anyone remember those? They were like little square trading cards, with each of the original 150 Pokemon on them? I have no clue what they are properly called, not reading Japanese.)
Donald @ Aug 10th 2008 10:58AM
Just a set of screen protectors thus far.
Jacksons @ Aug 10th 2008 11:03AM
A place for DS carts, a place for UMDs, a soft pouch for each system and a camera case for them to share. (they're touching! omg!) So no decorative accessories, just storage things, and of course some lens cleaner+cloth.
rjm.mclean @ Aug 10th 2008 12:01PM
One of those starter packs, like the Cases, Power adapter, screen protectors, stylus' that look terrible inside the DS, a case that holds an extra stylus and 3 DS games. I only use the Case which has a pouch that i have stuffed 13 games into, the cases that are specialy designed for the DS games are to bulky and a hassle to carry around so the soft pouch is good enough for me.
Roto13 @ Aug 10th 2008 12:19PM
Game card cases, a skin, and some extra styluses.
DS cases seem kind of... silly. I've been carrying my DS around for years and aside from that one time I crushed it against a door (a case wouldn't have helped unless it was made of titanium or something xP) it's been completely fine. I think the only thing a case would do is make it more awkward to pull out of my pocket and play.
supa_s @ Aug 10th 2008 12:24PM
I've bought Mario and Zelda styli that were only released in Japan, Club Nintendo cases, mini DS phone straps (screen cleaners), Hori game cases (I've got 6 8-games cases and 1 16-games case) and those Mario and Zelda stickers (u stick them to the front side of the DS - dunno if that's what u mean by skins) oh and Disney phone straps (I love my DS)

Extendable metal stylus is a must. 6.99 for two pack at Fry's. It's a really subtle control difference, like the difference between World Tour and real Guitar Hero.
I also had mine tricked out. I had a Coral Pink DS with Bodyguards on it, then I had glued googly eyes onto the face, and I had Hello Kitty stickers on the back. For the lanyard, I had a Monster Hunter screen wipe threaded through with a pink bead with an "A" on it, and I then I had a Ghostbusters lanyard clipped onto that. And then it got stolen and traded in at the GameStop across the street.
I'm thinking about getting some 360 controller grips and seeing if they will stick to the back of the system.

I haven't really bought any accessories of note, but I have been debating whether to get the DS Wallet - http://tinyurl.com/5mhoao - I've also been thinking about some sort of pen/stylus combo.
It sounds/looks very juvenile and I can only imagine the looks I'd get when I whip out my DS to grab my credit card. But I just don't have enough pockets to keep my (traditional) wallet, cell phone, keys, hPDA, *and* my DS.
I was *really* thinking about the wallet when I went on my DS as a PDA challenge - http://tinyurl.com/6nxze5 - but since that attempt sputtered out, I think my DS might find itself as a "when I remember to bring it" item.
ALH @ Aug 10th 2008 1:23PM
i occasionally use my WACOM stylus to give me the edge on rhythm games if that counts. You havent played ouendan until youve played it with a nice thick rubberised grip :)
ecco6t9 @ Aug 11th 2008 2:03AM
Well I've
Bought the Battle Stylus which it's weight really makes a difference in play.
The Lite Rumble Pak, the only bad thing is that the official one only comes in Black so now I am stuck buying systems that are Black.
The Taito Paddle, makes a huge difference in Arkanoid and adds something new to Space Invaders.
And lastly the Waterfield case although pricey is the best case I've ever used and everyone always wants mine.
Ng0zT @ Aug 10th 2008 2:09PM
i only have a case and a stand and it was advertised as a "charging dock" but only stands it up. (ripoff artists) grr
automagv @ Aug 10th 2008 2:46PM
I have a Joytron hard Leather Tuning case (awesome), a metal extendable stylus, decal girl all black skin (for the inside surfaces), and a Slipon Leather pouch. Black on black on black.
WalkingCarpet @ Aug 10th 2008 3:40PM
Just a soft case for carrying the thing around in my backpack around campus. I want to get some of those lightsaber styluses, but I can't find one anywhere.
Anthony @ Aug 10th 2008 3:49PM
i havent bough any accesories for my ds.
i have had a black lite since whenever they came out.
unless the guitar hero guitar grip is an accsesory. then i have bought one accsesory.
Dartholomeo @ Aug 10th 2008 4:02PM
I was lucky enough to come across a set of Star Wars lightsaber styluses (3-pack) recently; but I got a Pikachu stylus too that I bought a while ago.
I have the Pokemon Diamond carrying case that I don't use because it's the one with the transparent plastic inside to hold the DS in place. I bought it just because it's a Pokemon Diamond item.
For games I started with the ALS 3-cartridge case (3-Pack), but recently I got a Hori 6-cartridge case too.
Pelican screen protectors are a must for me.
No DS-specific case; I use a regular-cloth sunglasses slip case to hold my DS. It's a perfect match!
Pandora @ Aug 10th 2008 4:27PM
After I bought my red DS, we thought it would be funny to make it as ghetto as possible by buying a bling kit and covering it with "bling" and tribal tattoo stickers. I even had Mad Science stickers on the back. After I dropped it and scratched some of the paint, my boyfriend bought me a hard cover for it and since then I have changed out the pictures every no often. I also have a Ghostbusters lanyard and a Decepticons logo thredded through to I can wear it around my neck.
I even refer to mine by his name... heh.
Rock_Vbrg @ Aug 10th 2008 5:39PM
My original DS had Spongebob stickers on the top. I just finished changing the case out for a new blue on (broken hinge, ggrrrrr!!!) I've got the original hard strap from the DS PHAT on my DS Lite. I have considered the NERF cases but just can't bring myself to buy one.
My sons have Turtwig and Piplup (I think that is spelled right) Styluses. I'm trying to find a good multifunction pen that has a stylus, so I can use it with both my DS and HP 210.
BlackDS @ Aug 10th 2008 6:52PM
Faux Leather DS Lite Case, Hori Screen Protectors, extra styluses, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connector, Nintendo Headset, Pokemon Pearl Promotional Stylus, Zelda Phantom Hourglass Promotional Stylus, Brain Age 2 Promotional Stylus Set, Nintendo DS Lite Rumble Pak & Nintendo Power Mint Tins (to carry my DS & GBA games).
NO ACTION REPLAY (I'm not a cheater).
Peace.
BlackDS @ Aug 10th 2008 6:54PM
I forgot to mention the Nintendo DS Wrist Strap. :)
shatteredhalo @ Aug 10th 2008 8:01PM
of course those cases that hold 3 ds games at a time, and my mother in law also made me a soft zippered case for my ds as well.
but i still use my old case that i had for my GBA because it has a lot more room for the charger, headphones, 6 games, the DS itself, extra stylus, and i can cram an ipod in there as well.
i feel bad, but i need the room!!!
Nebinator @ Aug 10th 2008 8:44PM
Well.... I use a toothpick for a stylus.....
Deozaan @ Aug 10th 2008 8:47PM
The only DS accessory I've purchased was a screen protector. But it also came with a cloth to clean the screen and a bendable stylus. I never used them though.
I did get both of the Pokemon stylii from Pokemon Diamond/Pearl but they're still in their packaging.
I also got the special Castlevania package that came with a Castlevania Stylus but it's white and doesn't match my Cobalt/Onyx DS Lite.
I'm more practical and usually consider function over form. Besides, why waste money on useless accessories when you could use that money to buy games?
iruka @ Aug 10th 2008 9:22PM
I love my DS so much that I bought a lot of stuff for it. Let's see...
Crystal case (went through 2 already... cracked because I dropped it... once for each of them... bought another one from play-asia since it was on sale)
Screen protector (on my 2nd one already and it's full of scratches... also bought 3rd one during play-asia sale)
Extendable metal stylus
2 Mario stylus (from the gachapon)
Hori stand (very useful whenever I play on my computer desk)
Nintendogs case (it's the only one available that time with nice pockets for my extra stylus, games and screen cleaner)
Hori hard case and pen stylus (play-asia sale!!!)

I'm a guy and I love Sailor Moon.
You can call me a fag, but I can't promise that I'll care.
BlackDS @ Aug 11th 2008 9:24AM
It looks nice.
It's all about personalizing your stuff, so I think your Sailor Moon fetish is great. Although, if I was a girl, I would go with (Super) Princess Peach, Hello Kitty or Utada's Chuichi (cat).
Peace.
Andrew @ Aug 10th 2008 10:50PM
This is the one I have...
http://www.play-asia.com/SOap-23-83-34ze-71-b8-49-en-84-j-70-1pxg.html
LOL...affliation link FTW
but yeah...apart from my shameless profiting it comes with a stylus that looks like a pencil (use it all the time, friends think I am always scratching the screen), a rubber screen cleaner and a pencil case to fit your ds and games.
AWESOME...I was going to buy the case that looked like chocolate...but I was afraid I would eat my ds.T_T
Jay @ Aug 11th 2008 12:02PM
The best thing I have ever gotten is a Nerf type case for my DS! I can actually hold it now without any hands strain after ten minutes with the dinky thing. Oh and it's protective. I HATE the new neon colors that Nerf put out, but I found solid color ones on EBAY. Search DS nerf Armor and you'll find 'em. That and the screen protector to keep the stylus from sratching up the touchscreen. Love it.
Voltaire @ Aug 13th 2008 10:23PM
Once I upgraded to the DS Lite, I bought one of those Nerf covers... it worked well for my banana hands, but looked terrible, so I got rid of it. Other than that, I bought a Case Logic neoprene case meant for a portable HD, which fits the DS Lite perfectly!
