Fatal Frame IV plagued with bugs
We've been riding the Fatal Frame IV hype train as enthusiastically as any other site in recent months. The Tecmo/Grasshopper Manufacture crossover has long looked beautiful, engrossing, and hiding-behind-the-sofa scary. Furthermore, it's being published by Nintendo, which more or less guarantees a good time, right?
Wrong.
The game released in Japan last Thursday, meaning early importers are just now getting their copies in, and already several new owners are complaining about a host of collision detection issues, unselectable menu options, a ghost database that doesn't record all ghosts, and -- far more depressingly -- a game-freezing bug. Nintendo is acknowledging the glitches, and has released a statement featuring advice on how to best cope with them. We'll just have to hope some of this mess is cleared up when (and if) the game comes to the west.

That's disappointing. On the plus side, games go through Quality Assurance again when being localized, during which bugs of any sort can be submitted by testers. There's a good chance a lot of them will be addressed during that process. The plus side of getting a game later than another territory is that your version will usually be more polished.

Sounds like less of an issue than MGOnline's problems, I think you're being overly dramatic. I'm sure they'll clean it up by the time it's released over here (which it WILL). Tough shit for Japan, maybe they can do a patch for it somehow...

last i check mgonline was playable. the only issue they had was with the expansion. So your attempt at flaming mgo FAIL

Since the Wii has more than enough internal storage for most gamers, they can simply patch the game, fixing most of the bugs.

lulz

I knew that gratuitous amount of extra space would come in handy eventually.

Bugs are scary.

The positive side of not getting the first releases all the time.
TheOverlord#2 can has Animals Crossing? @ Aug 5th 2008 7:43PM
Maybe they're just like Mega Man 9's optional bugs, but in this game they thought the game would be better if there wasn't an option to turn them off.

I lol'd.

Disappointing news yes, but keep in mind this is Nintendo. Nobody will get screwed over, the issue will be addressed and if anything ppl will get a new copy, meh...
yomachaser @ Aug 5th 2008 8:00PM
Since Nintendo is involved they will more than likely mail out replacement disks like that they did with Twilight Princess.
Magnus @ Aug 5th 2008 8:13PM
LOL, I've seen even Argentinian games better coded than this. Better redo the game, it'll take less time than to fix the bugs.

Does make me rather grateful that they didn't go for the simultaneous release, as they did with Fatal Frame 2
I recall something like this happening with Izuna 2. But thankfully this will get resolved
And it's no IF, Fatal Frame's 1-3 have all come over. There's no reason for 4 not to

Im sorry, but after hearing Matty C. talk about the controls on the NVC, I can't see myself picking this up until it reaches the Blastworks price. Tecmo, its called an IR sensor. Its on every Wiimote, and its probably not that hard to build a game around it (See MOH: Heroes 2). The fact that Nintendo thought it'd be a good idea to put their "stamp of approval" on it just sickens me.
Atlantis1982 @ Aug 5th 2008 10:54PM
Why do people still listen to that idiot?
EDW @ Aug 6th 2008 12:37AM
it'll be improved before US release
Backslash @ Aug 6th 2008 5:08AM
Geist was Nintendo-published, too.

Um, naxo, when I talk about "MGOnline's problems" I obviously mean the expansion. I don't see how it's any different, people paid for that you know, and they couldn't (can't?) even play, if you think that's fine, you're wrong and there's no further discussion needed. Nice you respond days later hoping your words will be the last in the thread, ha...
