We're looking forward to being scared by Fatal Frame
We've been keeping a secret. You see, we're absolutely scared to death of Fatal Frame IV: Mask of the Lunar Eclipse. That's not going to stop us from picking the game up and playing the crap out of it though. We just felt we needed to share that with you all.
The above video for the game does a good job of depicting exactly what scares us. It's got spooky ghosts, a dark and creepy environment and a girl we hope survives long enough to get her film developed.

I would be crazy excited about this one, but I'm a bit worried. According to IGN the controls lack IR and are "idiotic" and "frustating". :(
Hopefully the US version will have some different control options.

based off of the idea that taking photos steal souls--
...old beliefs... no other way they (those who were new to it) could explain how they found a copy of themselves on paper.

Eh that's how the whole series has been, it's why it's named Fatal Frame... If you didn't like it, why would you expect the fourth part to be different...

ehh i havent heard of the series before now. it looks good n spooky just i think it could use a little more action that just picture taking.

As for how good it is, famitsu gave it 34/40 that's a very good score. IGN probably just dislike they can't run around killing everything with shotgun blasts to the head. It's not meant to be easy to kill the ghosts so they've made aiming hard on purpose, you can see how big that old style camera is and how hard it is to be used by that flimsy girl, she couldn't possibly be more agile while using it... This isn't about just killing stuff like Resident Evil series...

That's 3 points higher than they scored Wario Land Shake It!, FYI. Hopefully this game lives up to that score.
8-bit.artist @ Aug 2nd 2008 8:42PM
they gave red steel a 34 as well. haha.
Mr Khan @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:17PM
And don't forget the exceptional score they gave to Lair
I wouldn't say Famitsu isn't to be trusted, per se, because their opinions just don't give the aura of Payola. However, they are a maverick among reviewers, certainly.

Ign just can't get use to the control scheme but they kind of understand making it too easy would take away from the suspense. The control schemes are just different, not difficult anyone can get use it.
To the other one who posted shooting ghosts with cameras, meh... it's called fatal frame for a reason, lol
This game looks fantastic, a video posted actually made me jump, I didn't see it coming so I'm stoked all the way for this game. Wii has an impressive list of games to break out of this non-hardcore shell, I can't wait!

I'm not too worried about no IR pointing in the control scheme. Resident Evil 0-3 seemed to work out just fine with it's archaic set up.
iMeh @ Aug 2nd 2008 9:05PM
can't wait for a US release.
Mr Khan @ Aug 2nd 2008 10:19PM
The thing that always got you about Fatal Frame was that the ghosts of Fatal Frame acted like ghosts, in that they could follow you and such
It helped to keep you on edge, since there was no running from a losing fight.

I've played about 4 hours of Fatal Frame 4 so far. Yes, I found the controls to be unintuitive at first, but they work exactly as advertised in the manual (i.e., not "broken" as some have been saying) and are not a hinderance to enjoying the game.
This is my first Fatal Frame game, and there are some seriously spooky scenes in this game. I find this type of "creepy" horror much more effective than other "bloody" horror types of games. The pace is a bit slow, however; I think the slow pacing might likely be more of a problem for some than the unusual control scheme.
SoshiKitai @ Aug 3rd 2008 4:28PM
If it were fast, then the ghosts would have to be faster... and the building be a whole lot bigger...
....then it wouldn't be Fatal Frame anymore... it'd be Ghostbusters... and as wonderful as that is, it wouldn't be as frightening.
The slow-ness adds to the creepiness.
