Finally, some good news about the Virtual Console
Thanks to advance notice from two companies, we can now look forward to the Virtual Console releases for once. If Hudson and SNK's plans go through (as in, if a game isn't mysteriously bumped) we can expect both Samurai Shodown II and -- this is totally awesome -- Ys Book I & II.
We've been waiting for Ys since its first appearance on the ESRB ratings database last year, and now we're going to have the opportunity to buy two great action RPGs for eight bucks! There hasn't been a better deal since they packed Ys I & II with TurboDuo systems, and the Wii actually costs less than a Duo!

...Yay?
It's times like these when I wish the VC had playable demos.

Youtube?
Nigeria @ Aug 1st 2008 10:39AM
I already checked it out on youtube - I'm not quite sure about it yet.
Certain games, especially from the early 90s, from certain genres, such as RPGS, don't lend themselves well to pure video appraisal. It's hard to form a judgement with just videos, especially when I have no knowledge of the series.

I WANT CHI NO RONDO X!
honestly, they translate all these other games and release them, why not this one?
Josh @ Sep 2nd 2008 12:50AM
They hardly translate any games.
In fact, outside of Sin & Punishment, I can't think of any game that has been translated specifically for VC.

I kind of wish Falcom would release the portable Ys I and Ys II for the DS that they've already ported. Just a translation and off it goes!

Those were fifty dollars each. This is two for eight.

I'm not really a fan of RPGs, but I have Y's I & II for my Turbo Duo and I love them to death. I've been dying for them to come out on VC so that I don't have to worry about my eventual death of my Duo. Great story and a lot of fun to play.

I wonder if this is the translation form the now defunct Working
Designs, I loved their localization work ^_^
Arex @ Aug 1st 2008 12:52PM
Ys Books I & II predates Working Designs, if I recall correctly.
Anyway, this is great news. Ys was one of those cool games that not enough people got to enjoy due to the relative unpopularity of the TG-CD/Duo.
Of course, I'm likely to pass on it seeing as I've still got the original disc. I'm hoping someone develops a homebrew emulator with disc drive support. Until then, I'll play it via Magic Engine.

oh, yup, you're right Arex, I must have been thinking of Cosmic Fantasy 2. I wanted both that and Ys for the TruboCD back in the day, but I never did pick up the system.
beaus27 @ Aug 1st 2008 1:43PM
I have had this $7 in my VC account for three months now, just waiting for Ys 1&2!!! Now the day for Ys is finally near, hell yes!!!!
sxp151 @ Aug 1st 2008 5:16PM
But you need $8 to buy these games.
beaus27 @ Aug 2nd 2008 11:57AM
I know.
If there was an NES title I wanted on VC, I would have 200 points left. With the Ys, I'll add 1000 to my total= 1700, buy the Ys with 900 left... in other words, I was waiting on the Ys to be released so I can more points, see.
